(Bill) Askins, 76, of 610 Pearl St., died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at his home after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, in the chapel of the HANCOCK-ELMORE-HILL FUNERAL HOME in Bishopville. Burial will follow in the Mathews Cemetery in Cowards, S.C.Mr. Askins was born in Florence County and was the son of the late Paul Roy and Minnie Price Askins. He was a graduate of Florence High School, a retired DuPont Lab Technician and a W.W.II veteran. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene of Bishopville.Mr. Askins was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella, his parents, two brothers, a sister, five half-brothers, and five half-sisters.Surviving are, his two sons, Gene Allen Askins of Lexington, S.C., and Johnny P. Askins of Goose Creek, S.C., a brother, Willie C. Askins of Florence, S.C.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends and guests Sunday, July 22, from 7 until 9 p.m., at HANCOCK-ELMORE-HILL funeral home in Bishopville, S.C.
