Engler, Professor Emeritus and former Chairman of the Department of Periodontics, college of Dental Medicine and Medical University of South Carolina passed away on February 26, 2001. Dr. Engler was born in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania, on March 17, 1924, to George and Arline Engler. He graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry I 1950, with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Following an internship and several years of private practice in Souderto, Pennsylvania, Dr. Engler joined the United States Public Health Service. He completed a Masters degree program in Periodontics at the University of Michigan in 1964. He retired from the United States Public Health Service in 1974 as a Dental Director and began a career in academia at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Engler authored over 20 professional articles in various dental journals. He was a member of the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association, the Coastal District Dental Association, the Southern Academty of Periodontoglgy. Dr. Engler was honored with fellowship in the American College of Dentists in 1970. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Engler was a Mason. He was an active member of All Saints Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council for many years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Dr. Engler is survived by his wife of 55 years, Audrey Engler and his four children, Bill and his wife, Jayne, Bob and his wife, Dorothy, Carol and her husband, Barry and Barbara and her husband , Bernie. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. There will be a memorial service in All Saints Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant, SC., on Friday, March 2, 2001, at 1 1o'clock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Lutheran Church Building Fund, 2107 Highway 17 North, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
