Residence, Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services in Bethany United Methodist Church, Thursday afternoon , March 1, 2001, at 12 o'clock (noon). Interment, Live Oak Memorial gardens. Friends may call at J. Henry Sthur, Inc., West Ashley Chapel Wednesday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock. Mrs. Murden was born in Cordele, Georgia, the daughter of Charles Jackson King and Corrie Elizabeth Murphy King. She was a retired secretary with Kerr Drug. She was a charter member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She was a life time member of the United Methodist women, member of the official board, resident of the Dorothy Murden Fellowship class and soloist in the choir. She was a past matron of the Loyalty Chapter #136 of Eastern Star where she served for 53 years in many capacities. She was secretary for 36 years and received life membership in 1993. She was an active member of the King's Daughters. Mrs. Murden was preceded in death by her husband, Alden Q. Murden, a son, Harold C. Murden, and a step-son, John McKnight. Surviving are Herman Q. Murden and wife, Shirley; one step-daughter Bertha Mae Gann; one daughter-in-law, Vera McKnight; two sisters, Frances Royal of Atlanta, Ga., and Lutrelle Hinton of Birmingham, Alabama; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two nieces and six nephews, and a host of wonderful friends in the James Island community. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 1853 Maybank Hwy. Charleston, SC, or to Hospice Health Services, 1 Carriage Lane, Suite F, Charleston, SC 29407.
