Virginia Woodcock Winter
Virginia "Dixie" Woodcock Winter, 82, wife of William E. Winter, died 
Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Memorial 
services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fripp Island Chapel. Mrs. 
Winter was born Nov. 6, 1918, in Hollidaysburg, Pa., a daughter of 
John and Marjorie Sprecher Woodcock. She was a member of First 
Presbyterian Church of Beaufort and was a founding board member of 
Boys and Girl's Club of Beaufort. She was a founder of Fripp Island 
Audubon Society and was a regular contributor of current information 
about birds to The Trawler, the Fripp Island newspaper. Survivors 
include her husband, William E. Winter of Fripp Island; two daughters, 
Elizabeth Crower of Midland, Mich., and Barbara Park of Greenwood; a 
son, William E. Winter Jr. of Gaffney; a brother, John Woodcock of 
Altoona, Pa.; and eight grandchildren. The family suggests that 
memorial contributions may be made to Fripp Island Community Center, 
205 Tarpon Blvd., Fripp Island, SC 29920. Copeland Funeral Home,
