Born April 15, 1920 in South Carolina, she and her husband Daniel moved to San Jose tweny-nine years ago. In 1936, she played on the winning women's basketball team in the Amateur Athletic Union Tournament and in her spare time she enjoyed gardening and ceramics. Althea was the dedicated wife of Daniel Lawrence, beloved mother of Ronald L. of Saudi Arabia, R. Bruce of Vacaville, Terry S. of Billings, Montana, Thomas R. of San Pedro, Karyn D. Russell Dionne of San Jose, sister of Walter Oliver, Georgie Reilly, Frances Hoagland, Anthony Oliver, all of Charleston and loving grandmother of five grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a visitation 10:30 AM Thursday, August 2, 2001, with a funeral service to follow 11:00 AM at Darling and Fischer Chapel of The Hills, 615 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Los Gatos, CA to conclude at San Joaquin National Cemetery, Santa Nella, CA.
