Jaskiewicz, NIANTIC, Conn. - Thomas V. Jaskiewicz, 64, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Waterford, Conn. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thurday at Copeland Funeral Home, Beaufort. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Parris Island Chapel. Interment, with military honors, will be at Beaufort National Cemetery. Mr. Jaskiewicz was born Feb. 6, 1937, in Willimantic, Conn., a son of Marjorie De'Lia Jaskiewicz. He married Sheila Anderson on Parris Island. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Naval Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with five stars, Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnamese Service Medal with two stars. He also earned the Rifle and Pistol Sharpshooter Badges. He was retired from the Connecticut Department of Corrections, for which he worked as a correction officer at Gates Correctional Institution in Niantic. He earned the department's Circle of Merit in 1994, Governor's Community Service Award in 1997 and a 10-Year Certificate of Achievement. He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus and served two years as a Grand Knight in Charleston. He was a past post commander in the Niantic American Legion, a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Portsmouth, N.H., a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Niantic, a member of Beaufort AMVETS and Niantic Lions Club. Surviving are his wife of Niantic; three sons, Thomas and Timothy of Beaufort and Garland of Niantic; two daughters, Tereasa and Mary of Beaufort; five brothers, Charles Jaskiewicz of Jewett City, Conn., Anthony Jaskiewicz of Southington, Conn., Donald Jaskiewicz of Laughlin, Nev., Richard Jaskiewicz of Tucson, Ariz. and Joseph Jaskiewicz of Montville, Conn.; a sister, Regina Westner of Montville; and eight grandchildren.
