Born in Oconee County, he was retired from Beacon Manufacturing Company. He was a member of College Street Baptist Church and the Blue Ridge Masonic Lodge No. 92. He ws the widower of Leola Turner Vaughn and a son of the late Daniel Norman and Lomar Duckett Vaughn. Surviving are sons, J. E. Vaughn, Jr. and Dalton Vaughn of Walhalla, and Leon T. Vaughn of Powdersville; sisters, Katie Rochester and Annie Derrick of Seneca; and two grandchildren. Services were at 4 p. m. Tuesday at College Street Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Hal Freeman and Milton Smith. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Blue Ridge Masonic Lodge No. 92, 202 N. Church St., Walhalla, SC 29691. Davenport Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
