Alfred Thompson Abbott, 80, ordained minister of the Assemblies of God, did at his residence, in Greenville Friday, after a brief period of declining health. Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late J. O. L. and Catherine Addis Abbott. For a number of years he had lived in Greenville. Rev. Abbott organized and was pastor of the First Assembly of God on Gridley St., from 1924 to 1930. He later served as pastor in NC, SC, and Tenn. In recent years he has done interdenominational missionary work and wwas president of "God's Mission and Tours." He was a former pastor of the Mountain Rest Assembly of God near Walhalla. His first wife was the late Mrs. Mary Price Abbott who died in 1950. Surviving are his second wife, Mrs. Rena Perry Abbott; five daughters, Mrs. Boyce G. Garrett, Mrs. Elsie Abbott Wilson, Mrs. Herbert Carroll and Mrs. William W. Vaughn all of Greenville and Mrs. Michael Struhur of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, David A. Abbott of Charleston; one step-son, Rev. Carl E. Perry of Bishmarck(sic), ND; one sister, Mrs. Sophia Abbott Chadwick of Greenville, 22 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday from the chapel of the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home by the Rev. J. Edward Blount and Rev. E. E. Brown. Burial was in the Welcome Baptist Church cemetery on White Horse Road.
