Haskell T. Abbott, 88, of 2545 S. Whittier Ave., who performed various duties in the Baptist Churches in the area for the past 16 years, died at 10:45 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Hospital. Rev. Abbott was born at Walhalla, S.C., the son of Rev. Wilburn and Lousia Abbott. He attended Furman University and the University at Greenville, S.C. and the University of Richmond at Richmond, Va. and was graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville, Ky. He was married to Bertha Lee Deal at Deep Creek, Va., who died on Sept. 28, 1969. An active minister for 40 years, Rev. Abbott was pastor at First Baptist Church at Franklin, Ohio, First Baptist Church at Murphysboro for 12 years and at Hamlin Memorial Baptist Church for 24 years. He was a member of Pasfield Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Bertha Deal Abbott, with whom he resided and Mrs. Loren Baker of Escondido, Calif.; three sons, H.T. Abbott Jr. of Conway, S.C., Rev. Wilburn J. Abbott of Owensboro, Ky. and Bill M. Abbott of Springfield, Mo.; one brother, Burt B. Abbott of Seneca, S.C.; three sisters, Miss Annie Abbott and Mrs. Merie Isbell both of Seneca, S.C., and Mrs. Sallie Cox of Walhalla, S.C.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bish Memorial Home, with Rev. Lee Rule and Rev. Albert Gernenz officiating. Additional services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hamlin Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Springfield, Mo., with Gorman-Scharps-Abbott Funeral Home in charge.
