Abbott, Sr., 82, of Seneca, died early Friday morning in Oconee Hospital following a brief criticall illness. A son of the late John Wilber and Louise White Abbott, he was a native of Oconee County and a lifelong county resident. He was Elder Emeritus of the Seneca Presbyterian Church. Employed by Southern Bell Telephone Co. for 35 years, he was a member of the Pioneers of America, a life member of Seneca Lodge 185 AFM, where he was Past Master. He served 12 years in the Light and Water Commission for the City of Seneca. His wife was the late Mrs. Florence Rankin Abbott. Survivors; four sons, John W. Abbott and Dr. Louis H. Abbott, Seneca; Wallace W. Abbott, Morristown, Tenn., Clarence A. Abbott, Bennettsville; one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn A. Bryson, Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Addie Colley, Mrs. Lena Davis, both of Walhalla; Mrs. Bessie Whitten, Spartanburg; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday from the Seneca Presbyterian Church by Rev. L. J. Taylor. Burial in Mt. View Cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers. Honorary escort; Elders of Seneca Presbyterian Church, Dr. Russell Sammeth, Dr. H. H. Wells, Dr. L. E. Mays and Burns Harper.
