(1895-1967) Keowee Courier, E. E. Abbott, 72, widely-known retired Walhalla businessman, died Wednesday morning at 7:45 following an extended illness. A native of Oconee county, son of the late J. S. and Josephine Julian Abbott, he was a merchandiser and distributor for Standard Oil Company for 42 years. He retired in 1965. He was active in civic and religious affairs here for many years. A charter member of the Walhalla Lions Club, he was also amember of the Lewis Blanchett Post of the American Legion, the Blue Ridge Masonic Lodge and the Last Man's Club. He was a veteran of World War I and served as a member of the steering committee which planned and staged Walhalla's Centennial Celebration in 1950. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walhalla where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class. Mr. Abbott is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ada Duckworth Abbott; two daughters, Mrs. John J. (Mildred) Ward and Mrs. Harry O. (Evelyn) Bodiford; one brother, J. C. Abbott; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 5 p. m. from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Morgan Dukes and Dr. Eugene Mandrell officiating. Burial will be in Coneross cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cecil Dalton, T. J. Julian, Jimmy Abbott, Johnny Abbott, Robert L. Barker, Roy Duckworth, Jones Duckworth, and William West. The body is at Davenport Funeral Home and will placed int the church at 4 p. m. Thursday. The family will recieve visitors from 7 to 9 p. m. Wednesday night at the residence on Westminster Highway.
