TITLE: Ethel Elizabeth Abbott SOURCE: The Keowee Courier SUBMITTED BY: Susan Brock-Booker FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** ABBOTT, Ethel Fincannon (1885-1959) Keowee Courier, Mrs. Ethel Elizabeth Abbott, 74, beloved Seneca matron and member of a prominent Oconee county family, died Friday at her residence following an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Seneca, Mrs. Abbott was a daughter of the late Ike D. and Llewellen Stribling Fincannon. For more than 25 years she was employed bu Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company and for a number of years operated the Finnhart Inn at her home. Mrs. Abbott was the only woman ever to hold a position on the Seneca town council, having served several years in that capacity. She was nored throughout the area for her devotion to the sick and needy. As long as health permitted she was actively engaged in the civic and religious affairs of the town. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and of the Presbyterian church, where she was active in various phases of church and Sunday school work. Her husband, Plumer Abbott, preceded her to the grave a number of years ago. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, but leaves a number of nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Mrs. C. E. Fincannon, of Lynchburg, Va. Final rites were held from the graveside in Mt. View cemetery Saturday, with the Rev. R. R. Craig officiating. Pallbearers: Bill Bolt, Bill Hunnicutt, Bowen Nimmons, Jerry Fedder, Frank Pruitt, and W. C. Leroy. Brown Funeral Home was in charge.
