TITLE: Lawrence Eaton SOURCE: The Keowee Courier SUBMITTED BY: Susan Brock-Booker FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** EATON, Lawrence Keowee Courier March 17, 1949 Wreck Fatal To Lawrence Eaton Here Lawrence Eaton, 63-year-old Walhalla taxi operator and carpenter, succumbed Wednesday morning at 1 o'clock in Oconee Memorial hospital after his automobile apparently went out of control and overturned several times near benezer on the West Union-Pickens highway early Tuesday night. It was reported at the hospital that examining physicians were of the opinion that Mr. Eaton apparently suffered a stroke of heart attack while driving, and then lost control of the vehicle. Police Chief Jay Massey who rushed to the scene said the overturned auto, a 1940-model Plymouth, was found by James McCall. Mr. McCall stopped and inspected the wreck and found Mr. Eaton pinned under the car. Finding he was unable to get him out alone, he came to Walhalla and got aid from local police. Chief Massey said tire tracks showed the auto was headed toward Ebenezer when the tragedy occurred. Mr. Eaton was widely known in Walhalla, both as a taxi operator and carpenter. He is survived by his wife.
