Abbott, 68, one of Oconee's bestloved citizens and a veritable landmark in the progress of Walhalla. "Mr. Glenn" as he was known affectionately to thousands of Oconeeans, succumbed at his home early Monday afternoon after several months of declining health. Mr. Abbott, head of the Duke Power Company office in Oconee since 1928, directed Walhalla's power plant for years when it was municipally owned. A member of Rocky Knoll Baptist church, his forebears were among its founding fathers. He was also an honorary member of the Walhalla Fire Department, having at one time served as its chief. He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Annie Farmer of Walhalla; five sons, Frank Abbott of Walhalla, Dr. J. J. Abbott of Ware Shoals, W. B. Abbott of Sumter, G. F. Abbott of Central and Jack M. Abbott of Greenville; two daughters, Mrs. Louie Harper of Walhalla, and Mrs. Henry B. Wells, III of Newberry; and 13 grandchildren. Other survivors include brothers and sisters, Mrs. Toccoa Lee, Mrs. Charles Davis, Mrs. Addie Coley, Mrs. Burt Gillespie, Mrs. H. C. Whitten, L. B. Abbott and John E. Abbott. Services were conducted by the Rev. Paul Hayes and the Rev. R. W. McKinney. Interment followed in West View cemetery. Pallbearers were Freeman Bearden, Arthur Phillips, Sr., P. M. Canupp, H. B. Edmunds, J. C. Harris, Jay Massey, and Walter Grant. The escort of honor was composed of members of the Walhalla Rotary Club, Dr. J. T. Davis and officials of the Duke Power Company. Flower bearers were Mrs. Gordon Smith, Miss Norma Davis, Mrs. Wayne Thrift, Miss Frances Gillespie, Miss Jean Lee, Miss Lila Lee, and Mrs. Morris Seigler. A son of the late John W. and Lou White Abbott, pioneer residents of Oconee county, he was one of the staunchest members of the Walhalla Rotary Club.
