(1893-1948) Keowee Courier June 3, 1948 Funeral services for George S. Barker, 54, prominent farmer of the Stamp Creek section of Oconee county near Salem and World War I veteran who died at his home there Monday morning, were held from the Stamp Creek Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev. Mr. Bolding pastor, officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery. Nephews served as active pallbearers: Ray Alexander, George Smith, Tom Murphree, J. E. Barker, Sammy Barker. Nieces served as flower girls. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mamie Alexander Barker; three daughters, Mrs. Newman Chapman of Salem, Mrs. Warren Rice of Cashiers, N. C., and Miss Doris Barker of the home; one son, Homer Barker of the home; four grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. John Smith of Salem, Mrs. Lewis Alexander of Six Mile and Mrs. Norman Rogers of Salem, and four brothers, Jess Barker of Camden, John Barker of Westminster, Josh and Jim Barker of Salem.
