Seneca, Dec. 29- J.Y. Burns, well known Oconee county citizen and known to many as "Bud" Burns, died suddenly at his home in the Cross Roads section this morning at 8:30 o'clock. A heart attack was ascribed as the cause. Mr. Burns was 78 years old, and held in high esteem by a wide circle of relatives and friends who deplore his sudden and unexpected passing. He was a member of the Baptist denomination. Surviving him in addition to his widow, Mrs. Eva Mason Burns, are five sons and four daughters, as follows: Will Burns of Alabama, Jim and Eastman Burns of Seneca, Lum Burns of Greenville, and Melvin Burns of LaFrance; Mrs. Nettie Tucker of Seneca, Mrs. Lizzie Simmons of Earle's Grove. One brother, John Burns of Pendleton, and three sisters, Mrs. Frances Simmons of Blunt Springs, Ala., Mrs. Janie Adams of Townville, and Mrs. Lucia Adams, of Cross Roads also survive. In addition he leaves four stepchildren, Mason Sullivan of LaFrance, Leland Sullivan of Oakway, Mrs. Ben Atkinson of Six Mile, and Mrs. L. O. Gurley, of LaFrance. Funeral services will be held from the Townville Baptist church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Rufus Mitchell conducting the services. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery, with the Abbott funeral home in charge. (Mr. J. Y. Burns died on December 29,1938). Contributed by Mary L.
