T. Abbott, veteran engineer for the Southern Railway who was stricken suddenly while on his way to work Tuesday morning, will be held at Floyd's Mortuary at 11 o'clock Thursday morning, the Rev. Howard Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery. Mr. Abbott, who was 73 years old, had served the Southern for 42 years and was one of that railroad's most trusted and valued employees. He had made Spartanburg his home for 32 years, and had made thousands of friends by his unfailing courtesy and exceptional efficiency. Hundreds of youngsters knew him as a friendly counselor, and their elders admired him for his perennial good humor and fidelity to duty. He was regarded by experienced railroad men as one of the most capable engineers in the service, and his assoliates were proud of his remarkable record. His close attention to duty was one of the traditions of local railroad circles, and his death came as a profound shock to the men with whom he had worked for four decades. Mr. Abbott was born in Oconee County. He was a member of the Baptist church and active in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Fayssoux Abbott, and the following children: Mrs. C. W. Boggs, Calhoun; Mrs. William Jewell, Spartanburg; Miss Mattie Abbott, Asheville, N. C.; Mrs. B. T. Justice, Uree, N. C.; Mrs. J. H. Safford, Erwin, Tenn.; Mrs. W. P. Justice, Spartanburg; Mrs. T. L. Sprouse, Arcadia; N. Z. Abbott, Jean, Texas; A. I. Abbott, Dallas, Texas; A. M. Abbott, Clemson College, and R. B. Abbott, Hazelton, Pa. One brother, A. E. Abbott, of Hartsville, also survives him. Spartanburg Herald, August 3. There are many relatives and friends of Mr. Abbott in Oconee shocked to learn of his death. He was born in the Coneross section and was lived in this county until 1890 when he entered the service of the Richmond and Danville Railroad company, now the Southern. He was a brother of the late Marshall Abbott, and uncle of Miss Kate Abbott, Z. T. Abbott and Mrs. E. R. White of this place. He was here last March when Mrs. Mary Abbott died. First wife of Mr. Abbott was Miss Collie Davis of Oconee a sister of Mr. Robert Davis of Retreat.
