TITLE: James Knox Reid SOURCE: Keowee Courier SUBMITTED BY: Susan Brock-Booker FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** REID, James Knox (1870-1928)Keowee Courier September 11, 1928, Died, at his home in Eastminster, on Saturday morning, September 8th, at about nine o'clock, Mr. James Knox Reid, aged 58 years. Mr. Reid's health failed many months back, about the time he returned to Westminster from Toccoa, Ga., last winter. He was afflicted with a complication of diseases and had suffered greatly the past few months. He had been unable to work since the tenth of January. Mr. Reid was a textile worker and had worked here a long time, with the exception of a few years at Walhalla and Toccoa, Ga. He was a son of the late William Reid and was born in the Pleasant Hill section of the county on July 3, 1870. He was a kind-heared gentleman, well liked by everbody, modest, quiet and unassuming. He was twice married, his first wife who died several years ago was Miss Fannie Brown. By this union he leaves two sons, Frank and Geo. Reid, one son, Knox Reid, having died some months ago. His second wife, who was Miss Lillie Mae Lindsay, with two daughters, Margaret, aged seven, and Mary, aged five years, survives. The deceased was member of the Westminster Camp Woodmen of the World, the Masonic Order and the Junior Order American Mechanics and always took an active part in these organizations. The funeral and interment was at the First Westminster Baptist church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock and was in charge of the Masons with the pall-bearers chosen from members of the W. O. W. Dr. F. H. Martin and Rev. M. J. Stancell conducted the services. Sheldon and Miller were the undertakers. There are many who sorrow at the passing of Mr. Jas. K. Reid and they deeply sympathize with the widow and children in their bereavement.
