TITLE: John E. Vaughn SOURCE: Keowee Courier SUBMITTED BY: Susan Brock-Booker FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** VAUGHN, John E. Keowee Courier February 12, 1919, Death of John E. Vaughn, Esteemed Citizen of New Hope Section Called to Reward, New Hope Feb. 3--- Special: On Monday, Jan. 27, the spirit of John Vaughn winged its way from earth back to the God who gave it. Quietly, peacefully, as he lived. He passed away after an ilness of ten days of pneumonia, following influenza. Mr. Vaughn had made his home in this section for a number of years. He was a hard working man. A kind, loving husband and father, he was born May 10th, 1891, in Oconee county. He was a member of New Hope Baptist church---not only a member, but a faithful worker in the church and for the Master's cause. He was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. They loved him most who knew him best. He leaves a wife, who was before marriage a Miss Patterson, and four small children, the youngest a babe of only five weeks. His mother, four brothers and three sisters also mourn his death. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the afflicted family in this dark hour of bereavement. At the time of the death of Mr. Vaughn, his wife and eldest child were very sick with the influenza. On Tuesday afternoon, after appropriate services by his pastor, Rev. M. J. Stansel, his body was laid to rest in the New Hope cemetery. While our hearts are torn and bleeding, may we cast our burden on the Lord, remembering that "the Lord gave and the Lord taketh away: Blessed be the name of the Lord." Thy will be done. A Friend.
