On Wednesday of last week Mrs. M. C. Todd of Walhalla, a daughter of the deceased received a letter from her mother, and on Sunday last she received one from her father in which he told of the death of Mrs. Clinkscales. The news came as a big shock to Mrs. Todd but she was prepared in a way to learn the worst at any time, knowing well the seriousness and nature of her mother's long illness. Mrs. Clinkscales was 73 years of age, and was born in Oconee, her maiden name being Miss Clarissa Knox, she being a daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Drury Knox (both deceased), who were well known in Oconee, Mr. Knox being a staunch Baptist and occupying a place well known in the Baptist church as an exhorter(sic) and in years gone by he served among the weak churches much in the capacity of a pastor. Mrs. Clinkscales was twice married, her first husband being John Henderson, of this county, who was wounded in the war, dying on Sullivan's Island, where his wife went nurse him, being with him at the time of the end came. Aldrich, who makes her home with Mr. and Mrs. Todd of Walhalla. Shortly after her marriage to Mr. Clinkscales they moved to Texas, residing there continuously since, though they had on several occasions visied relatives in Oconee during the 27 years they resided in Texas. Mrs. Clinkscales was a staunch member of the Baptist church, exemplifying in her daily life the principles of the religion she professed.
