TITLE: Robert Craig SOURCE: The Keowee Courier SUBMITTED BY: Susan Brock-Booker FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** CRAIG, Robert (1835-1914) Keowee Courier April 1914 ----Robert Craig, one of Oconee's most highly respected citizens, died at his home in the Tabor section last Friday, April 17th, and was buried in the cemetery of Chauga church on Sunday, the 19th. Mr. Craig was 79 years of age. He was a consistent Christian ad staunch church worker for many years, and leaves behind an enviable record as citizen, Christian and Confederate soldier. He served throughout the war, rendering valiant service to the cause of the Confederacy, after the conflict of arms taking up with energy the work of rehabilitating the country left desolate by reason of the war. In early life he married Miss Sarah Wheeler, of Georgia, and had she lived until the 19th of April (the day of his burial) he would have celebrated with his life companion the 50th anniversary of their wedding. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Arthur Craig, of Central, Pickens county, and W. R. Craig, of the Westminster section and six daughters, Mrs. Heppie Moorehead, Mrs. Clarkie Dickson, Mrs. Sallie Dickson, Mrs. Carrie Honea, Mrs. Fannie Perkins and Miss Mollie Craig, who reside in the vicinity of Westminster. There are numerous grandchildren also to mourn his passing away. To the bereaved ones we extend sincere sympathy in their sorrow.
