TITLE: Lula Elizabeth Blanchett Abbott SOURCE: The Keowee Courier SUBMITTED BY: Susan Brock-Booker FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** ABBOTT, Lula Elizabeth Blanchett Lula Elizabeth Blanchett Abbott (1-25-1870 to 4-1-1913) Keowee Courier April 2, 1913 Mrs. Lula Abbott, wife of J. Davis Abbott, died at their home near Coneross Tuesday morning (yeaterday) at 3 o'clock, after a severe illness from measles. She had been ill for 18 days, bur her condition was not generally realized to have been of a particularly serious nature until the latter part of last week. Mrs. Abbott was the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. W. Z. Blanchett, of the Rocky Knoll section, and was 43 years of age. She was a devout Christian and an earnest worker in the Coneross Baptist church, giving liberally of her time and means to the support of the church in its various branches of Christian endeavor. She was also a leader in the Sunshine Society of that church, one of the strongest and most active societies in the county. She will be sorely missed both in the home, in the church and in the community at large. Mrs. Abbott is survived by her husband and several children, her aged father and mother, six brothers and three sisters. The brothers and sisters are: Walter Blanchett of Quincy, Wash.; Calvin Blanchett, of Touchet, Wash.; Oscar Blanchett, of Chewalah, Wash.; Palm Blanchett, of Grovetown, Ga.; Sidney and Lewis Blanchett, of Walhalla; Mrs. Appie Schleuter, of Chewalah, Wash.; Mrs. Alice Morton, of Grovetown, Ga.; and Mrs. Ella Singleton, of Westminster. To these and numerous other relatives in the county we extend heart-felt sympathy in their hour of sorrow. They sorrow not as those without hope. In the death of Mrs. Abbott a good woman has been called to her reward. She had been for twenty years a consistent member of the Baptist church, and her daily life was that of a consecrated Christian. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Coneross Baptist church, after which the body was lowered to its last resting place in the cemetery of that church, the pastor, Rev. L. D. Mitchell, conducting the services in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing friends. Palm Blanchett and Mrs. Alice Morton, of Grovetown, Ga., brother and sister of the deceased arrived in time to attend the funeral services.
