TITLE: George W. Eaton SOURCE: The Keowee Courier SUBMITTED BY: Susan Brock-Booker FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** EATON, George W. (1849-1906) Keowee Courier December 12, 1906, George W. Eaton died at his home in Walhalla yesterday morning, December 11th, at 9:30 o'clock, in the 57th year of his age. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Eaton, both now dead. Mr. Eaton had been an almost constant sufferer for more than a year, though his health began failing several years ago. He was a native of this county, having been born near Pleasant Hill church, July 25th, 1849. On October 7th, 1865, he was happily married to Mrs. Lucinda McGuffin, nee Hull, who survives him. Mr. Eaton was for years a merchant in Walhalla, but some years ago retired from that business and opened a photograph gallery, which business he conducted, when his health would permit, until his death. He was a member of the Walhalla Baptist Church, and in his frequent conversations with his pastor, Rev. G. H. Judd, during his last illness, he talked freely in regard to the future and expressed a saving faith in Christ and ta desire to be at rest. His long suffering was borne patiently. He leaves a wife and niece, Miss Anna Brewer, to mourn his death, to whom in their sorrow the sympathy of many friends goes out. The furneral services will be conducted this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from his late residence. The interment will be at the Baptist cemetery immediately after the services at the house.
