TITLE: Lilly Burt Abbott SOURCE: The Keowee Courier SUBMITTED BY: Susan Brock-Booker FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** ABBOTT, Lilly Burt (1878-1904) Keowee Courier July 1904 Death of Miss Lillie Abbott On last Saturday afternoon, July 16, about 6 o'clock p. m., Miss Lillie Abbott, eldest daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Wilburn Abbott, died at her home on Coneross after a brief illness from typhoid fever. She was in the 26th year of her age and had been for a number of years a consistent member of the Baptist church. Her life was spent in the service of others. Always kind and thoughtful she was interested in the comfort and welfare of those about her, and to know her was to love her. From early childhood she evinced a remarkable degree of love for church work and a degree of interest in the welfare of others that is seldomed witnessed in one so young. Her whole life was that of a gentle Christian and the impress of her infinence for good will felt by many in years to come. On Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock her remains were laid to rest in the Coneross Baptist cemetery in the presense of a large concourse of sorrowing friends. The services were conducted by Rev. J. M. McGuire, J. W. and D. S. Abbott, of Gaffney, the only ones of her immediate family who resided at a distance, arrived here in time to pay the last and tribune to the deceased at the grave. To the bereaved parents, brothers, and sisters of the deceased we extend our sympathy in their hour of sorrow.
