TITLE: Claude T. Abbott SOURCE: The Keowee Courier SUBMITTED BY: Susan Brock-Booker FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** Abbott, Claude T. (1885-1904) Keowee Courier February, 1904, A great many sympathizing friends were at Coneross Baptist church last Saturday, not withstanding the inclement weather, to attend the funeral of Claude Abbott, who was accidentally killed by a falling tree on Thursday morning. As the remains came in sight of the church about thirty vehicles were counted in the funeral procession which had followed from the grief-stricken parents on little Conneross creek. The casket was borne down the aisle by six friends of the deceased. The exercises, conducted by Revs. A. P. Marett and J. M. Sanders, were of a most impressive nature, "Some One Will Enter the Pearly Gate and the Parting Hand" were rendered, and all eyes were bedimmed with tears. The deceased young man was a consistent church member and lived an exemplary life, and his parents have no fear as to his future state. Claude Abbott went to the forest Thursday morning, with a companion to cut stock, full of youth and hope and as summers, but in a moment his life ended. Verily, "In the midst of life we are in death."
