TITLE: Evans B. Jones SOURCE: Southern Christion Advocate, October 28, 1885 SUBMITTED BY: Linda Merwald, April 26, 2001 FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Apr 2001 *********************************************************************** "Jones,--Evan B. Jones died Oct. 1, 1885, aged 89 years, 3 months and 10 days. He was born in Horry Co., SC. Trained by pious parents, he joined the Church in his youth, and was appointed class-leader and steward of the Methodist Church, which positions he filled with satisfaction, both to the society and the preachers in charge, for about 40 years, when his health giving way, he was relieved of both. He continued to attend upon all the ordinances of the Church whenever he was able until a few years before his death. His house was the preachers' home for 40 or 50 years. He was kind and obliging to his neighbors and hospitable to all. He was counted by all knew him to be honest and upright in all his dealings with everyone. For a long time he served as magistrate. Many of the old preachers, and especially those who have been with him, will no doubt be glad to hear that he held out faithful to the last, and died as calmly as an infant going to sleep, with a sweet smile upon his countenace. He has left five children -- three sons and two daughters -- to mourn their loss; yet we are satisfied that our loss is his eternal gain. Rev. W. B. Baker being at the celebration of his birth-day, father requested him to preach his funeral sermon if he out-lived him. -William H. Jones" Transcribed November 16, 1981, by Brian E.
