Mrs. Burn was born in Milford the daughter of the late Wilbur S. and Jennie T. (Trice) Simpson. She graduated from Milford High School in 1939 and then worked as an Executive Secretary for the Fish Products Company in Lewes for 30 years, retiring in 1975 when the company was sold. She was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church of Milford, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Burn enjoyed spending time with her family in her home in Milford, as well as her cottage in Slaughter Beach. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and needle work. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Wilbur S. Simpson, Jr. in 1986. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Thomas W. Burn, 1 son and daughter in law Thomas W. and Carol Burn, of Rehoboth Beach, one daughter and son in law Ann B. and Joseph R. Rogers of Milford, two sisters Virginia S. Kennedy of Lewes and Kay Watson of Milford; four grandsons Thomas W. Burn , III, John, Justin and Stephen Cannon and two granddaughters, Kristine B. Dervaes and Jessica R. Rogers; also 3 nieces and a nephew. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 27, 2003 at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford where friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford. Grier Sr., 91, of Milford, DE, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003 at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. He was born January 16, 1912 in Milford, son of the late Dr. Walter L. and Elizabeth Richards Grier. He graduated in 1930 from Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Va. He continued his education at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa., graduating in 1934. While a sophomore there, he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Athletics to play baseball with Wareham, Mass. in the Cape Cod League, run by Major League Baseball Teams for amateurs, however, the league was canceled one week before starting because of unfortunate circumstances surrounding the Depression. During his years at Lehigh, he was selected to two senior Honor Societies, Omicron Delta Kappa and Alpha Kappa Psi, was president of Economics and won the college’s baseball award. Garrett’s love for baseball started in 1926 when he played Town Team Baseball in Felton, Harrington, Dover and Milford, participating in the Milford State Championships in 1935 and 1936. He played for the Eastern Shore League in Federalsburg, Md. in 1937 and Milford from 1938 to 1941. He owned and operated men’s clothing stores in Milford and Rehoboth Beach from 1938 to 1941. From 1942 to 1946 he served his country with the United States Navy as Lt. Commander in aviation ordinance. He was in training for gunnery officer for the F4U Corsair Squadron off Norfolk at the end of the war. Upon returning home from the Navy, Garrett, along with his brother, W. Logan Grier, established Grier Lumber Company in Milford which he owned and operated for 26 years. After his retirement there, he spent the next several years as a real estate broker. He joined the Carlisle Fire Company in 1940 and was president for seven years from 1949-1956, following Charles E. Varney. He was the chairman of a very successful fund drive in 1976 for the present building. In 1946, he was one of a committee of four led by Howard Furnish that started the Milford Lions Club and was offered the first presidency. He was a dedicated member with 25 years of perfect attendance. He was a charter member of both the Shawnee Country Club, Milford and the Blue Hen VFW Post 6483, Milford, which he later became a life member of. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3 and the Elks Lodge #2401, both in Milford. In 1952, he organized Junior Baseball with two teams of 12 year olds, developing to a church league and later becoming Little League and was active for 10 years. He served as a Director of Milford Trust Company later becoming the Bank of Delaware and now PNC Bank from 1953-1989. He organized the Central Delaware Chapter of Ducks Unlimited in 1971 and was President for the first 3 years. He was later elected to National Trustee Emeritus. He was an active member of the Avenue United Methodist Church, Milford, where he served as Chairman of the Finance Committee for 10 years. He was elected to the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame on November 27, 1997, along with his late father, Dr. Walter L. Grier. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Frank R. Grier and Walter Logan Grier, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ellen Sipple Grier, 1 son, Garrett L. Grier, Jr. of Milford, 2 daughters; Linda G. Johnson of New York, NY and Rachel Grier-Reynolds of Arden, DE, 8 grandchildren; Thomas "Hank" Draper, Jr., William R. Draper II, Mariah D. Calagione, Molly D. Russell, Garrett L. Grier, III, Carrie E. Grier, Matthew L. Johnson and Benjamin S. Johnson and 4 great- grandchildren. Services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 25, at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, where the family will greet friends after noon. She had been employed over the years with the Lewes Convalescent Center, Beebe Medical Center and the Beebe Home Health Care Program, retiring after 20 years of nursing service. Julie was an artist in watercolors, oils and pastels, and she enjoyed singing at Gull House. She loved to sail and was devoted to her sons. She is survived by her husband, Anthony William Bailey of Lewes; her father, Donald Haskins of Fairhope, Alabama; three sons, Elberton Tyndal Connaway III of Burlington, Vermont; Christopher B. Connaway and Shawn M. Connaway of Wilmington, N.C.; three grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Connaway, Jacob Finn Connaway and Elberton Tyndall Connaway IV; and three brothers, Alan, David and John Haskins, all of New York. She was predeceased by her daughter, Jennifer B. Connaway, in 1976, and her mother, Elizabeth Haskins, in 1994. He was 23. He was born Jan. 31, 1979, in Lewes, the son of Marta Veotios Perry of Lewes and Matthew L. Gibbs of Lincoln. He was a construction worker for Henlopen Masonry. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Theodore Perry and Nathanial Gibbs. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a special devoted friend, Sharee Badger; two sons, Brian Lavarr Perry Jr. and Wanya Ladez Badger; his godmother, Pearl Cannon of Lewes; his grandmothers, Naomi Perry of Lewes, Virginia Gibbs of Georgetown and Pearl Hood of Milton; three brothers, Jamaal Perry and Matthew Perry of Lewes and Edward Lofland of Palms, Calif.; two sisters, Shomona Lofland of Middletown and Mariah Gibbs of Lincoln; two godsisters, Sabrina Copeland of Salisbury, Md., and Ceresia Cannon of Milford, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was born Sept. 3, 1946, in Jersey City, N.J., the son of the late Clarence Hansen and Anna Lee Hansen. He worked as a mechanical engineer for 29 years for Mack Trucking and Seagram's. He worked at Progresso Foods in Vineland, N.J. for five years. After retiring in 1996, he taught math at Delaware Technical '&;' Community College and volunteered as a math teacher at the Delaware Correctional Facility in Smyrna. He was also director for the Mamie A. Warren Senior Center in Smyrna. He was a 25-year member of Nordic Lodge No. 574 Sons of Norway, Totowa, N.J., and The National Society of Professional Engineers. He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Janet B. and Bill Pszenny of Pemberton, N.J.; a niece, Lee Ann Forvour of Jobstown, N.J.; a nephew, John Pszenny, and his wife, Crystal, of Pennsville, N.J.; two aunts, Roberta Lee of Lewes and Nona Lee of Pennsylvania; an uncle, Gustav Lee, and his wife, Elsie, of Lewes; and four great-nieces and nephews. Kevin graduated from William Penn High School in 1974. He graduated with honors from Wilmington College in 1984, with a Criminal Justice degree. He loved music. He played several instruments and had a song patented. While at Wilmington College he held positions as technical director and state manager in theater productions. He was active in the Delaware Wheelers and Special Olympics and held several records at the state level. He was a comedian and had performed at the Comedy Cabaret. He was an active volunteer at the DuPont Hospital for Children and Milford Hospital in the rehabilitation department. He is survived by his mother Cecilia (Sally) B. Collins. He was preceded in death by his father, Edmund (Monk) Collins. He is also survived by his aunts: Stella McLaughlin and Rose Ann Collins; his uncles: Harry McLaughlin and Bill Collins; and numerous cousins and friends. Cash * Brian W. Cash of Felton, 32, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at the home of his parents. A salvation service is set for 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, at Short Funeral Services, Federal Street, Milton. There will be no formal calling hours. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton. He was born in Duluth, Minn., the son of M. Wayne Cash and Janet Belcher Cash of Felton. He was employed the past two years by the Town of Milton's maintenance department. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Dover. He loved his children. He also enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors, whether spending time at the beach or taking walks in the early morning. He also enjoyed swimming and working on cars. In addition to his parents, Brian is survived by his wife, Faith Carey Cash and his two children Ethan N. and Emily N. Cash, all of Milton; a sister: Melinda Cash Walker and nephews: Andrew and Aaron Walker, all of Dover; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
