She was born Feb. 10, 1908. For the past 55 years, she was an active member and officer of the Wilmington Chapter of Deborah and Lung Hospital. Her members and patients were her extended family. She helped many deserving people to enter the hospital for treatment and has kept in touch with these patients over the years. She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom for almost 56 years, the Milton and Hattie Kutz Home and several other local organizations. She was the wife of the late Lawrence Abrahams; mother of Sheila (Mark) Plafker and Norman(Linda) Abrahams; sister of Sylvia Saltzman and Martin Berman; beloved grandmother of David Plafker, Jed (Debra) Plafker, Lisa (Ross) Forman; and devoted great grandmother of Benjamin Forman, Jamie, Noah and Maxwell Plafker. He could not wait to get home from work so he and his wife could go fishing on their boat out of Mariners Cove. Mr. Novello served his country during WWII in the US Army. He served in Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Cluster for wounds received in Sicily and the Normandy Campaign. Mr. Novello was also awarded the Bronze Star, Bronze Arrow Head and Victory Medal. Survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Adele M. (Cox) Novello; their children, Frank A. She was also preceded in death by their only child, a son, Gary L. Quaintance. Veith, II. Mrs. Veith moved to Wilmington in 1939 when her husband began working for DuPont. For most of her adult life, she had been a homemaker. She is a member Emeritus of the former Wilmington Hospital Junior Board. For many years she managed the gift shop at Memorial Hospital and when that closed, managed the gift shop at Pellport. She and her husband were avid golfers and traveled frequently to numerous golf resorts throughout the U.S. She was a lifelong member of the DuPont Country Club and a 50 years member of Kennett Square Golf and Country Club. During the 50's and 60's, she played on various DuPont Country Club golf teams and continued to play regularly up until her 89th year. Kathryn is predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Charles J. Veith II and by her beloved grandson, Charles J. Veith, IV; her sisters, Ursula, Genevieve, Anne Marie, and her brother John J. Degan, Jr. She is survived by her son, Dr. Charles J. Veith, III and his wife, Helen; her sister-in-law, Lilana Degan of Cape Cod; brothers-in-law, Edward Carolin and Gerald Dunn of Solvay, NY; her grandsons, David E. Veith, Peter W. Veith and his wife, Kathleen, both of Wilmington, DE; her granddaughters, Linda S. Glover and husband, Bruce of Old Greenwich, CT; Leslie M. Reed and her husband, John of New Vernon, NJ; granddaughter-in-law, Christina V. Benton of Wilmington; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a funeral service at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Sharpley, Wilmington on Friday, April 4, 2003 at 11:00 am. Friends may call one hour before the service. Whiteside Age 88, former textile official and native of Wilmington, DE died Sunday, March 3, 2003. Mr. Whiteside retired in 1980 from Wilmington Finishing Company, after 40 years of employment, where he was Vice-President. An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Whiteside served for five years in the 1st Armored Division in Europe. He as a former President of Industrial Management, a former VP of Industrial Affairs of the Society for Advanced Management, Chairman of the Personnel Committee for Opportunity Center, Inc., a former Director of Brandywine Valley Association, and a former member of the Wilmington Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Whiteside, a gifted athlete, life-long sports devotee, and an avid golfer, was a member of Rock Manor Golf Club. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Gregg of New York City, and Frank, Jr. of Pennington, NJ; two brothers Donald and Gilbert; a sister, Aleta Hall; and 4 grandchildren, Brett, Alissa, Dean, and Candace.
