'Winnie' Morgan Boss, 70 DOVER - Winifred P. "Winnie" Morgan Boss of Dover died Thursday, May 29, 2003, in Capitol Healthcare Services, Dover. She was 70. Mrs. Boss was born July 22, 1932, in Wilmington, daughter of the late F. Ernest and Mary Carroll Morgan. She was an exceptional seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and puzzles. Mrs. Boss was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Dover and was involved with Missionettes, Keenagers, Expressing Him and volunteering in the church office. She also was a member of Gideons International. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 18 years, Leroy G. Boss, April 7, 2003; and a daughter, Marcella K. Scott. She is survived by four sons and four daughters-in-law, Raymond "Ray" and Mary Ann Scott and William "Bill" and Ginny Scott, all of Wilmington, Ernest " Ernie" and Linda Scott of New Castle and Johnny and Valerie Scott of Pennsville, N.J.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Hall of Newport, Dorothy "Dottie" Moore of Claymont and Patricia "Patti" and Floyd Heath of Camden; two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Charles "Joe" and Sarah Boss of Port Orchard, Wash., and David Boss of Anchorage, Alaska; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, George and Lea Morgan of Florida and Henry "Hank" and Bunnie Morgan of Clayton; a sister, Kathleen "Kay" Gooden of Frankford; 21 grandchildren, Denise, Stephanie, Erica, Elizabeth, Winnie, Ray, Bill Jr., Christina, Caitlin, Tierra, Amber, Alexis, Mark, Natasha, Kevin, Damien, Stephen, Nick, Amanda, Emily and Tommy. Collins, 90 GREENWOOD - Madlyn E. Collins of Greenwood, formerly of Harrington, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, in the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 90. Mrs. Collins was born in Farmington, daughter of the late Charles W. and Elizabeth (Bullock) Collison. She and her husband owned and operated Collins Clothiers in Harrington from the early 1940s until her retirement in 1978. In her younger years she worked at the soda fountain at the Reese Theater in Harrington. She enjoyed flower gardening and loved working in the yard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Mills Collins, in 1995; her daughter, Joan (Collins) Wittle, in 1999; two sisters, Geneva Hobbs and Katherine Godwin; and two brothers, Leland Collison and Lester Collison She is survived by a sister, Virginia Richardson of Harrington; a sister-in- law, Bea Collins of Georgetown; a granddaughter, Linda E. O'Malley and her husband, Michael, of Bel Air, Md.; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Michelle O'Malley. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford- Harrington Highway, Harrington. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Thelma Oretta Murray Cornish WORTON, Md. - Thelma Oretta Murray Cornish of Worton, formerly of Washington, D.C., died, after a long illness, as she lived, peacefully and quietly, Saturday, May 24, 2003, in Magnolia Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chestertown. She was 83. Mrs. Cornish was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Salem, daughter of the late George and Vera Hopkins Murray and the eighth child of 14. She received her early education at Salem Elementary School of Dorchester County, graduating from Frederick Douglas St. Clair High School in 1937. She received her bachelor of science degree from Delaware State College (now university), and her master's degree from Temple University. She did additional studies at American University, the University of Maryland and the George Washington University. She earned certificates in adult education from the Inter-University Institute at the University of Maryland and Wayne State University. Mrs. Cornish was a retired educator from the Maryland State Department of Education. As a supervisor, she made significant contributions in the field of elementary and adult education. She served as a teacher and supervisor of elementary instruction in Calvert County from 1945 to 1965. In October 1965, she joined the Maryland State Department of Education as supervisor of adult basic education, where she drafted a proposal to use television to help implement the adult-education program. This program, being disseminated nationally, won her the Ohio State University Award in 1975. She served as a consultant in adult education from 1972 to 1974 with the U.S. Office of Education, and served as director of that office's Region III Institute for Administrators of Adult Basic Education, George Washington University, Washington, in 1967. From 1973 to 1975, she served in numerous capacities with persons selected by the U.S. commissioner of education to represent the United States at the World Education Conference on Basics and Functional Education for Adults. On Sept. 18, 1949, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Dr. Thomas Nebo Cornish, and during this union, she became mother to Barbara Chichester, who preceded her in death. Due to declining health, she moved to Worton on the Eastern Shore, with her devoted and caring sister, Lula Washington. She was a loving, kind, compassionate and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who shared and cared so much for the well-being of others. Even in her final hours, her thoughts were of giving of her substance for the welfare of those she loved. Throughout all her illness, she had a great sense of humor and always kept the faith. On Friday, May 23, at her request, even though she was very feeble and weak, she asked her niece Lauretta to read 1 Corinthians, chapter one, to her, which gave her much comfort and peace. Mrs. Cornish was affiliated with many organizations and received numerous awards: Maryland Association of Adult Education, Maryland Association for Publicly Supported Continuing Education, Adult Education Association of the U.S.A., National Technical Association, Maryland State Retired Teachers' Association, Delta Sigma Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Outstanding Maryland Adult Education, Outstanding National Adult Education, Certificate of Achievement and Outstanding Service and Board of Education of Calvert County. She was appointed as a legacy honoree of the Delaware State University Alumni Association. She received her early religious background at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church, Salem. In 1960, she became a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Washington. She was an active member and supporter of the church community outreach ministries, serving with the United Methodist Women - Group 7 and various committees. At the conference level, she served on the Ethnic Minority Committee in the local church, N.M. Carroll Home for Retired Ministers and Spouses and the Board of Child Care Auxiliary for Neglected Children. After moving to Worton, she became an associate member of Mount Olive A.M.E. Church and was a willing participant in the Ada Butler Missionary Society. She found her comfort level and was dearly loved by all who came in contact with her. In addition to her parents, husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Villa Jackson, Ethel Burroughs, Mary Louise Murray, Lena Larkin and Esther Tilghman; a brother, Isidore Murray; one nephew who was like a brother, Harvey Murray; and three brothers-in-law. In addition to her sister and niece, she is survived by a son-in-law, Charles Chichester; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Kevin and Andrea Chichester; a great-granddaughter, Alexandra Chichester; another sister and a brother-in-law, Vera and Gregory Brockman; three brothers and two sisters-in- law, Floyd and Mildred Murray, George and Annie Murray and Hayward Murray; a devoted niece who was like a sister, Lauretta Freeman; two other sisters-in-law, Betty Murray and Elizabeth Cornish; a niece-in-law, Agnes Murray; a brother-in- law, Granville Tilghman; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Butlertown. Memorial services will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Asbury United Methodist Church, 11th and K streets, N.W., Washington. Final services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Hurlock United Methodist Church, Hurlock, where friends also may call two hours earlier. Burial will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Beulah, near Hurlock. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Harry M. Francisco, 57 CLAYTON - Harry M. Francisco of Clayton died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 57. Mr. Francisco was born May 9, 1946, in New Castle, son of the late Melvin and Evelyn (Engram) Francisco. He worked for Bylers Store on Rose Valley School Road in Dover as a store clerk for five years. In his spare time, Mr. Francisco enjoyed cars, music, and laughing with people. He is survived by his wife, Linda Francisco of Clayton; a son, Joseph F. Francisco of Clayton; four daughters, Denise Kinsey of Clayton, Angla Hoiser of Newark, Amy Francisco of Wilmington and Elizabeth Pritechett of Clayton; a sister, Dorothy Rowe of Clayton; and a grandchild, Tyler Kinsey. Burial will be in the Immanuel United Methodist Church Yard, Cheswold. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Aaron T. Reynolds, 68 SMYRNA - Aaron T. Reynolds of Smyrna died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 68. Mr. Reynolds was born July 8, 1934 in Dover, son of the late Charles W. Reynolds Sr. and Ida H. Williams Reynolds. He loved playing high school sports like basketball and football, but his greatest love was baseball. He was a stellar pitcher for Smyrna High School and while still in high school, on weekends, pitched batting practice for the Dover Phillies Farm Team. The Bi-State/Mar-Del League also gave him an avenue to pursue his favorite sport, playing for Kenton, the only Delaware team in the league. Following high school, he worked for Playtex distribution and later for several different electrical contractors before becoming an electrical inspector for the First State Inspection Agency and retiring in 2000. He also retired out of Dover from the Delaware National Guard as a first sergeant after 20 years of service. Mr. Reynolds was a Past Master of Harmony Lodge 13 AF'&;'AM, serving as master in 1996 and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a life member of the Cheswold Fire Company and had been a volunteer for Citizens Hose Company 1 in Smyrna. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathaniel Bo Qi. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, H. Marie Brown Reynolds; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janice R. Qi of Middletown and Laura Jo and James Permelia of Smyrna; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Keith A. and Janaia Reynolds of Philadelphia, Pa. and Kirk O. Reynolds of Smyrna; a brother and sister-in- law, Charles W. and June Clough of Felton; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Elva and Mickey Clough of Dover, Margaret and Bill Cohee of Cheswold, and Ruth and Travis Strickland of Houston, Texas; and his grandchildren, Ashley Reynolds, Daniel Reynolds, Ryan Permelia, Idamarie Permelia and Clayton Permelia all of Smyrna and Jordana Qi of Middletown. Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the charity of one's choice. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Allen Preston Wickes, 58 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Allen Preston Wickes of Chestertown died of complications of cancer Saturday, May 24, 2003, in Magnolia Nursing Center in Chestertown. He was 58. Mr. Wickes was born in Chestertown, son of the late James and Elsie Wickes. He attended school at Henry Highland Garnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Wickes; and a brother, Jim Archie Gland. He is survived by two sons, Allen P. Wickes Jr. of Butlertown and Corey Wickes of California; a daughter, Shona Boyce of Dover, Del.; a sister, Claudia Trusty of Chestertown; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; an uncle, Robert Brown Sr.; three aunts, Vonceal Steward, Yvonne Brown and Lucille Smith; a son- in-law; two daughters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a special friend, Paula Little.
