Brohawn Sr., 80 SEAFORD - John W. Brohawn Sr. of Seaford died Monday, May 26, 2003, in Deer's Head Hospital, Salisbury, Md. He was 80. Mr. Brohawn was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired in 1984 after 42 years from the DuPont Co. in Seaford, where he was a senior technical assis-tant. Mr. Brohawn was a member of the American Legion in Seaford. He was active in the Nanticoke Little League for 30 years and started girls' Little League softball in Sussex County. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy "Dot" Brohawn; a son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Sylvia Brohawn Jr. of Laurel; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda A. and Steven Collins of Seaford; two sis-ters, Gladys Lloyd of Easton, Md., and Marguerite Reller of Venice, Fla.; a grandson, Shane W. 'Gene' Collier, 73 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - William E. "Gene" Collier of Chestertown died Monday, May 26, 2003, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. He was 73. Mr. Collier was born June 18, 1929, in Maryland, son of the late William Clyde and Dora King Collier. He was a graduate of Stevensville High School, class of 1946, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in December 1954 after serving nearly seven years. He worked as a mechanic and truck driver before owning and operating his own business, G'&;'E Quik Mart in Grasonville. Mr. Collier was the first fire chief of the Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chestertown, and attended Bay Pines Lutheran Church in Florida, where he and his wife spent winters for the past nine years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Margie Hoxter. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ethel Collier; a son and daughter- in-law, Paul William Collier and Dayra Collier of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy Mench and Doria and Joseph Doug-las, all of Chestertown; Mr. Douglas' extended family, Wendy and Michael Moore of Chestertown; a brother, Francis "Butch" Collier of Chester; nine grandchildren, Michael Mansfield, Trish Bacon, Ericka Collier, Megan Moore, Kaitlyn Moore, Kelsey Douglas, Taylor Douglas, Joel Douglas and Austin Collier; two step-grandsons, Dicino Cacino and Abraham Cacino; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Bacon. James L. Davis Sr. of Galena died suddenly Saturday, May 24, 2003, in his home. He was 62. The Rev. Davis was born Sept. 21, 1940, in Columbia, S.C., son of the late Jasper and Jannie Bell Grooms. He was employed by Daimler Chrysler in Newark, Del., for 36 years, retiring as a line coordinator in 2001. The Rev. Davis and his wife moved from Wilmington, Del., to Galena five years ago. He had been pastor of Olivet Pentecostal Church of Love for 10 years. The groundbreaking service for his new church began a year ago, with the excavation beginning just weeks ago. He enjoyed serving the Lord, his family and working on cars. The Rev. Davis is survived by his wife of 39 years, Anna M. Davis; a son and daughter-in-law, James L. Davis Jr. and Felicia Davis of Wilmington; three daughters and a son-in-law, Melody Davis of Jacksonville, Fla., Nicole Davis of Middletown, Del., and Moneca Davis-Graham and Corey Graham of Bear, Del.; a sister and brother-in-law, Ilean and Wayman Blackston of Galena; eight grandchildren; and a host of neph-ews and nieces. Schaech, Galena. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Joan Donovan, 88 MARIETTA, Ga. - Joan Donovan of Marietta died, following an extended illness, Saturday, May 24, 2003, in her son's home in Dawsonville. She was 88. Mrs. Donovan was born Gwendolyn Joan Orner June 3, 1914, in Garden City, Kan., the youngest of nine sisters. As a young woman, she was a professional dancer, performing with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, with Josephine Baker and Maurice Chevalier at the Follies-Bergere Theater in Paris and with a cabaret show entertaining British troops in Alexandria, Egypt, during the early years of World War II. Later, she worked in motion-picture productions, and then, as an administrative assistant with Conoco and DuPont, living in Wilmington, Del., 1983-1985. Following her retirement in 1984, Mrs. Donovan moved to Marietta, where she was active in volunteer work as a "Wednesday Wonder" for the Zoo Atlanta. She also traveled extensively, visiting Ireland, India, Africa and Australia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Frank Donovan, in 1975. She is survived by two sons, Michael Donovan of Key Largo, Fla., and Kevin Donovan of Dawsonville; five grandchildren, Erin, Sean, Andrew, Tara and Karri; and a great-grandson, Tristan. She was 79. Mrs. Hearn was born in Ossining, N.Y., daughter of the late Percy and Marie Buddleman Young. She was a graduate of Salisbury State Teachers College (now Salisbury University), Salisbury, Md. She was an elementary-school teacher in the Seaford School District before retiring. Mrs. Hearn was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Seaford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Allen Hearn, in 1979. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry A. and Karen L. Heller of Smyrna died Sunday, May 25, 2003, in Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dover. He was 84. Mr. Heller was a foreman for the Delaware Memorial Bridge, retiring in 1982. He had also owned and operated a farm near Townsend for 45 years. During the 1950s, he played the guitar and fiddle and sang with the Melody Rangers. They performed on television and radio, and also played at nursing homes and for veterans. He enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, hunting, traveling and riding his motorcycle. He was a good person with a big heart and lived life to the fullest. Mr. Heller was a member and past committeeman for the Democratic Club, 29th District, and past president and secretary for the Blackbird Community Center. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Heller; and a daughter, Maude Carey. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Claire T. Heller; and two brothers, Bobby of Bangor, Maine, and Leon "Chick" Heller of New Castle. Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the St. Polycarps Building Fund, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, DE 19977. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Bishop Clifford Jones, 79 REHOBOTH BEACH - Bishop Clifford Jones of Rehoboth Beach died Saturday, May 24, 2003, in Beebe Convalescent Home, Lewes. He was 79. Mr. Jones was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Reynolds, Ga., son of the late Mrs. Alice Virginia Jones White, sec-ond eldest of six children. He was a great source of strength to his mother and the younger children. Much later, he moved to Miami, and in 1969, he met and became engaged to Margaret Miller of Reho-both. Two years later, they were wed in holy matrimony. That same year he was appointed an elder of the Soul Saving Church on Norwood Street in Rehoboth Beach. There, he served as pastor for more than 30 years. Although his health began to fail, he still continued to do the work that God had called him to do; so much so, that he was later appointed as a bishop. He will be greatly missed by all, not only in Rehoboth Beach, but also by churches in the surrounding areas. He is survived by his lovely wife of 32 years, Margaret; a sister and brother-in-law, Willie Clyde Battle and Robert Battle of New York City; a sister-in-law, Cora Miller, as well as Mrs. Miller's husband, Martin Miller, of Rehoboth Beach; 21 nieces; 16 nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Soul Saving Station, Norwood Street, Rehoboth Beach, where friends may call two hours earlier. "Alvin" Lowman of Smyrna died of lung cancer Tuesday, May 27, 2003, in his home. He was 67. Mr. Lowman was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Townsend, son of the late Albert J. and Katie Tarbutton Low-man. He worked in the maintenance department of PPG Industries in Cheswold for 22 years before retiring in 1998. Mr. Lowman enjoyed fishing and woodworking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Reed Lowman; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Melvin Hershberger of Dover; two grandchildren, Megan and Michael Hershberger; two special nieces, Crystal and Dawn Talley; and a special nephew, Lou Puspoki. McGuigan Jr., 65 MILLSBORO - Joseph A. McGuigan Jr. of Long Neck, near Millsboro, and formerly of Philadelphia, died Friday, May 23, 2003, in Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care, Newark. He was 65. Mr. McGuigan was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a retired marine machinist for the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, Shop 38. Mr. McGuigan was a member of Mary, Mother of Peace, Catholic Church in Oak Orchard, and the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Joan McGuigan, in March 2003; and two sons, Michael McGuigan and Timothy McGuigan. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph C. McGuigan and Lisa McGuigan, and Dennis McGuigan; a brother, James McGuigan; and four grandchildren, Michael, Sean, Caitlin and Melissa. He was 69. Mr. Schuh was born Feb. 4, 1934, in Yugoslavia, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Possert) Schuh. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Delaware in engineering. Mr. Schuh was employed by the state of Delaware for 34 years. He retired as central district engineer for Kent County. His retirement was spent traveling to Vermont and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rose Schuh of Marydel; two sons, Scott Schuh of Dover and Eric Schuh of Felton; a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Mark Weyant of Dover; and a grandchild, Matthew J. She was 75. Mrs. Warrington was born in Milford, daughter of the late Perry R. and Lela Warren Mears. She was a school bus driver for the Indian River School District for 30 years, retiring in 1992. She had also worked for the Diamond State Telephone Co. for 12 years as a telephone operator, retiring in 1959. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening. Mrs. Warrington was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer for 40 years, and was involved with the United Methodist Women. She also was a member of the Georgetown His-torical Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary C. Mears; and a brother, George R. Mears. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Samuel W. Warrington of Georgetown; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Mike Willing of Georgetown; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Charlene War-rington of Georgetown; and three grandchildren, Katie Warrington, Beth Willing and Kelsi Warrington, all of Georgetown.
