Hopkins, 43 DOVER - Dale R. Hopkins of Dover died Sunday, May 25, 2003, in his home. He was 43. Mr. Hopkins was born in Mount Holly, N.J. He was a Navy veteran. He worked at Harrison's Paving in Dover. Mrs. Hopkins was a member of the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward R. "Buster" Hopkins. He is survived by his wife, Loretta (Wilson) Hopkins; his mother and stepfather, Carole and William Harrison of Dover; two sons, Dale Hopkins Jr. and Jason Borntrager, both of Dover; a daughter, Christina Hopkins of Dover; a stepson, Martin of Dover; four brothers, Donald Hopkins of New Egypt, N.J., William Harrison of Magnolia and Henry and Rowdy Harrison, both of Dover; four sisters, Linda Turki of Michi-gan, Lisa Wilson of Magnolia, Debbie Hammond of Bel Air, Md. and Carol Jean Harrison of Bear; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main St., New Egypt, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Henry Harrison will officiate. Burial will be in Brotherhood Cemetery, Mt. Holly. --------------------------------------------------------------- * William Pritchett McDaniel, 80 DOVER - William Pritchett McDaniel of Dover died Saturday, May 24, 2003, of cardiac arrest while working at home. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends. Mr. McDaniel was born May 11, 1923, in Philadelphia, son of the late Dr. Joseph S. and Mary Pritchett McDaniel. He attended Dover High School and regularly participated in reunions with the Dover High School class of 1941. He graduated from Fishburne Military School in 1942 and attended the University of South Caro-lina, later serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his discharge from the Navy in 1946, Mr. McDaniel began building custom homes in the Dover area. This led to a career in real estate sales, brokerage and development. During the 1960s he was a car-pentry Shop teacher at Dover High school for four years. He also owned and operated Del-Mar-Va Pool Distributors, later Manorwood Pools and Manorwood Realty. His varied hobbies included flying, photography, woodworking and the history of Dover. Mr. McDaniel's photographs of Dover have been featured on the covers of past issues of the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce Information Book. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. J. Stites McDaniel. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Hill McDaniel; a son and daughter-in-law, William P. II "Chip" and Ginger McDaniel of Milford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary M. and John Harbeson and Patricia M. and R. Clay Foltz, all of Dover; seven grandchildren, Holly Reynolds, Rebecca Cronk, Matthew Harbeson, Brian McDaniel, Katelyn, Caroline, and Alec Foltz; a great-grandson, Garrett Reynolds; and a nephew and niece, Joseph S. McDaniel III and Melinda Palmer, both of Dover. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour earlier. Burial will be in Christ Churchyard, Dover. Mills, 95 DOVER - Helen G. Mills of Dover died Friday, May 23, 2003. She was 95. Mrs. Mills was born in Hopewell Township, N.J. She was a 1927 graduate of Rider College. She was a teacher in Frenchtown, N.J., and Chesapeake City, Md., and worked for the DuPont Co. in Wilmington, retiring in 1972. Mrs. Mills was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, AARP and the Modern Maturity Center of Dover. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Mills Sr. She is survived by a son, James M. Mills Jr. of Dover; seven grandchildren, Lauren, James, Sarah, Helen, Corey, Bryan and Sean; a nephew, Hartwell Vannoy of Hopewell, N.J.; and a niece, Peggy Rosa of Newark. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Highland Cemetery. Arrangements by Cromwell Memorial Home, Hopewell. Schiefer of Dover died Sunday, May 25, 2003, in his home. He was 51. Mr. Schiefer was born in Philadelphia, son of Robert C. Schiefer of Dover and the late Catherine Xavier Schiefer. He moved to Dover with his parents at an early age and graduated from Dover High School in 1970. He also attended Burlington Community College, New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Mr. Schiefer worked for the Delaware Department of Correction in Smyrna, where he served as a corpo-ral until illness forced his retirement in 1999. He was a dedicated husband, father and loving grandfather who enjoyed his family and in his quiet mo-ments enjoyed reading. Mr. Schiefer was a former active member of the American Legion, Walter L. Fox Post. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, James W. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda E. of Dover; three daughters and sons-in-law, AnnMarie and Charles Young Jr. of Dover, Christina and Kevin Eames of Lincoln and Tara and William Evans Jr. of Townsend; three brothers, Robert of Florida, Michael of Minnesota and Matthew of Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Carrie and Karen Young, William and John Badger, William Evans III, McKenna Eames and Emily Jane Evans; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 South State St., Dover. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be private. The family suggests donation in his memory to Compassionate Care Hospice, 5610 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. --------------------------------------------------------------- * James Wiley, 62 HARRINGTON - James Wiley of Harrington died Friday, May 23, 2003, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 62. Mr. Wiley was born in Milford, son of the late Edward and Emma Phillips Wiley. He lived most of his life in Harrington. He was employed as an equipment operator for the state of Delaware, retiring in 1990. Mr. Wiley was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge 543 and also a member of the Harrington American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Viola Theresa Wiley; three step daughters and two step sons-in-law, Cathy and Steve Murray of Dagsboro, Joann and Mark Hammond of Frankford and Belinda Stuper and her friend, Danny Butler, of Bridgeville; two brothers, William Wiley of Milford and Richard Wiley of Ellendale; a sister, Doris Walls of Huntsville, Ala.; and four grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
