She was 80. Mrs. DeShong was born May 21, 1922, in Warfordsburg, Pa., daughter of the late David S. and Anna Opal (Giffen) Good. She had lived in Marion, Pa., for 22 years, and was formerly employed by Knouse Foods, Chambersburg, Pa., for 22 years. Mrs. DeShong was formerly a resident of Luther Towers, Milton, before moving to Harbor Healthcare Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bland W. He was 53. Mr. Dunmeyer was born in Meyersdale, Pa., son of Lloyd Dunmeyer Jr. of Felton and the late Julia Menaquale Dunmeyer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Dunmeyer was a member of the Oak Orchard-Riverdale American Legion Post 28 and an active member of the Indian River Sports Club. He was 75. Mr. Engle was born in Clem Township, Pa., son of the late William L. and Pearl (Stewart) Engle, He was a spray-gun repairman for General Motors, Boxwood Road, Newport, retiring in 1986. He worked in the traffic division for the Rehoboth Beach Police Department from 1987 to 1993. He also worked for Masten's Home Center for eight years. For many years, he was Santa Claus at the Plaza in Milford. Mr. Engle was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Milford. He also was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 435 in Wilmington, the Milford Senior Center, Good Sam Camping Associa-tion, Wagon Master Shanty Shakers and the Sussex County Stroke Club. Hurtt of Hagerstown died Thursday, May 15, 2003, in the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore. She was 65. Mrs. Hurtt was born July 19, 1937, daughter of the late Meryl and Viola Anderson Johnson. She was a graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in police science. Mrs. Hurtt and her husband made their home in Frederick from 1966 until moving to Hagerstown in 1996. She was a parole and probation officer with the state of Maryland from 1979 to 1994, retiring after 15 years of service. She volunteered for REACH caregivers and enjoyed traveling with the Hagerstown Community College ILIR, a program for seniors. Mrs. Hurtt was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Beaver Creek Lions Club and the American Association of University Women. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II in Okinawa and the Asiatic-Pacific area. Mr. Ludwig and his wife were formerly the owners and operators of Ephrata Turkey Farms and Hatchery on Ridge Avenue, Ephrata, for many years. He had lived in Fort Myers, Fla., for several years. He enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing and hunting Mr. Ludwig was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ephrata. He was a life mem-ber of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Ocean View VFW Post 7234. He had been a member of the Blue Ribbon Hunting Camp in Potter County, Pa., for many years. She was past Democratic chairperson for the 28th Representative District, former treasurer for the Middletown Chamber of Commerce, a trustee of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Odessa, a member of the American Swedish Colonial Society and a member of the Cooch's Bridge chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah M. Stidham. She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, Howard W. She graduated from high school and resided in New Jersey, working as an underwriter for U.S.F.'&;'G. and, later, D.A. Henderson and Co. She married William H. Wetherill in 1960 and, in 1970, moved to Chestertown, where she raised her family. She enjoyed sewing, playing bridge and shopping. Mrs. Wetherill attended First United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia L. and Pic Renshaw of Chestertown; two grandchildren and their respective spouses, William H. She was 91. Mrs. Whalen was born in Talheim, Germany, daughter of the late Johann and Barbara Blaier Sigel. She came to America in 1927 and May 23, 1933, married the late Jesse Sharp Whalen. They lived in Boothwyn, Pa. until the early 1980s at which time, they moved to the Sudlersville area. She worked for many years as a seamstress for the Elwyn School. Mrs. Whalen loved to garden and enjoyed her flowers. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, but the most important thing in her life was her family. She enjoyed spending time with all of them and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Barbara Whalen and James Hudson of West Chester, Pa.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse George and Peggy Whalen of Sudlersville and James Vernon and Nancy Whalen of Crumpton; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
