He was 82. Mr. Conaway was born in Georgetown, son of the late Olin and Olivette Moore Conaway. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Mr. Conaway retired from the DuPont Co. in Seaford in 1981 after 35 years of service as a pipefitter. He loved working in his garden. Some of his other favorite pastimes were fishing, crabbing and boating. Mr. Conaway was a member of the American Legion Post 24 in Laurel and the Laurel Senior Center. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alva Margaret Conaway; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Fay and Reggie Layfield of Millsboro; a sister, Ruth Waller of Georgetown; three brothers, Norman Conaway of Millsboro, Preston Conaway of Laurel and Herman Conaway of Albany, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Coverdale of Lincoln died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Milford Center, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 72. Mr. Coverdale was born in Lincoln, son of the late John and Annie (Wilson) Coverdale. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Coverdale worked as a chemical compounder for the L.D. Caulk Co. for 33 years. He loved and enjoyed stock car racing for many years. His No. 79 stock car took him to several state championships. Mr. Coverdale was a member of Harrington Moose Lodge 543, the Ellendale Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ellendale Volunteer Fire Co. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Derrickson) Coverdale in 2002; two sisters, Frances Wilson and Sallie Fitzgerald; and two brothers, Harvey Coverdale and Charlie Coverdale. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathi and Steve Dayton of Lincoln; three sisters, Lottie Jones of Lincoln, Meta Donovan of Milford and Ann Watson of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Christina Marie Dayton and her fiance Adam Wall and Stefanie Lynn Dayton; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Marty and Sue Stokes and Candace Stokes. She gradated from Central High School in Pennington, N.J. in 1932, and moved to Delaware shortly thereafter. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved by all who knew her. She was 96. Mrs. Garnecky was born Feb. 13, 1907, in New York, daughter of the late James A. Reilly and Rosalie R. (Santos) Reilly. She worked for the A '&;' P Bakery in Newark, N.J., for 25 years before retiring in 1971. After retirement, she moved to Chestertown. Mrs. Garnecky loved dancing and music, and enjoyed going to social gatherings with her friends. She enjoyed traveling when she was able. She also loved playing slot machines throughout her travels. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Garnecky, in 1934; a son, Edward Garnecky Jr., in 1957; a first cousin, Ottlole Blair of Chestertown; and a second cousin, Elaine Garnecky of Chestertown. Md., died of heart failure Monday, March 3, 2003, in William Hill Manor, Easton. He was 79. Mr. Goodhand was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late William Sudler and Margaret Nelson Goodhand. He was a World War II veteran P-51 Mustang fighter pilot, and continued his military service as a member of the Maryland Army National Guard for 18 years. Mr. Goodhand was a sales representative for the Chesapeake Supply and Equipment Co. of Baltimore, retiring in 1985. He was very active in the community of Sudlersville. He served as a town commissioner and made several significant contributions to the community. His favorite projects were the introduction of computers and online services to the community library, the Jimmie Foxx Memorial and the addition of the town's new sewer system. His enthusiastic involvement helped make these dreams come alive. He had many loves in his life, but working with youth always stood at the top of his list. Having both his sons attend military academies and a daughter teaching elementary school show that the need to guide young people was very important to him. In 1975, he coached the undefeated Berkley Square Bobcats in football. He also enjoyed teaching children how to sail and, later in life, volunteered regularly at the Sudlersville Elementary School. But his true love was the game of lacrosse. In 1977, he founded the Sudlersville Youth Lacrosse program, and through the past 25-plus years, nearly 2,000 young men and ladies have been tutored and coached to love the game. Through his dedication and hard work, Mr. Goodhand was recognized by the U.S. Lacrosse Foundation as a national award winner for his contribution to the game of lacrosse. Mr. Goodhand was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Sudlersville, American Legion Post 192, Millington, and the Sudlersville Lions Club. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Jane "Susie" Goodhand; two sons, Willliam S. "Rick" Goodhand of Arnold and George Mason Goodhand of Sandy, Utah; four grandsons, Adrian J. Goodhand, Mason S. Goodhand, John A. Goodhand and Patrick B. Hibbard; and two granddaughters, Courtney Anne Hibbard and Megan A. Goodhand. He was 55. Mr. Lewis was born Jan. 9, 1948. He was the second child born to the late Elizabeth Cooper Lewis and the late Thomas Henry Lewis Jr. Tommy's ancestry is Nanticoke Indian. He attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and graduated from William Henry High School in 1966. While in high school, Tommy was an athlete in football, basketball and track and field. He still holds the state record in the 110-meter low hurdles. Mr. Lewis married his childhood sweetheart, Janice Goodman, in 1968. They were in their 35th year of marriage. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He worked at General Foods and Draper King Cole as a forklift driver and heavy equipment operator. Mrs. Sanderson was born June 12, 1921, in Gouverneur, N.Y. She had been a resident of Dover for 15 years prior to relocating to Florida in 1994. She devoted her life to nurturing her six children and many grandchildren, while traveling extensively as a military wife. She was a kind and generous person and touched everyone she knew with her love and laughter and will always be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grand mother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joseph N. Sanderson; and three children. After marrying. she made her life in Delaware as a homemaker, loving wife, mother and adored Grammy. Mrs. Shoemaker enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, and reading. She enjoyed family road trips back to Texas to visit with family.
