She was 64. Mrs. Amend was born in Hanover, Pa., daughter of the late Lester and Esther Hilker. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Henry J. Amend; four sons; three stepchildren; ten grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Conley's Chapel, Angola. Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Ronald Donovan, 67 LEWES - Ronald Donovan of Lewes died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 67. Mr. Donovan was born in Lewes, son of the late Walter Donovan Sr. and Fanny Prettyman Donovan. He graduated from Lewes High School in 1952. Mr. Donovan and his loving wife, Pat enjoyed 40 years of marriage highlighted by children, grandchildren and vacations with loving friends. Fond memories of the years spent as a coach with Lewes Little League and as a proud Cape Henlopen parent and spectator of field hockey, soccer, football, basketball, baseball and softball were meant to continue as he looked forward to sharing in all the future endeavors of his beloved grandchildren. After serving six years in the United States Coast Guard, Mr. Donovan was honorably discharged and began a 35-year career in public service for the town of Lewes. Appointed the town's first city manager in 1969, he was later named general manager of the board of public works in 1982 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1997. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter J. Donovan, Jr. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mark Markovic of Crofton, Md.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Lisa Donovan of Middletown and Tom and Susan Donovan of Brewster, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Caroline, Lorin, Dylan, Kyle, Katelyn and Tyler and beloved children Jake and Logan Mathews; a sister, Hester Dymond of Newport News, Va.; and life-long friends and family including nieces Jen McGaffin, Amy Ludwig, Meredith Luizetti and nephews Neil Hohmann, Bill James and Robert and Ronald Dymond. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Henlopen Memorial Park, near Milton. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Sandra V. Ewing, 58 MILLSBORO - Sandra V. Ewing of Millsboro died peacefully Monday, March 24, 2003, in her home. She was 58. Mrs. Ewing was the daughter of the late Charles Cleaves and Alice Cleaves. She was a long-standing member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary of Rehoboth Beach. She will be remembered for her courage, determination, strength and generosity during a long 21/2 -year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Harry R. Ewing; and a son, Eric R. Ewing. She is survived by her life companion, Walt Himes of Millsboro; and a sister, Marjorie LeVan of Newark. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. He was 87. Mr. Higgins was born June 12, 1915 in Greenwood, Del. He owned and operated Higgins Fuel Company. Mr. Higgins attended Mount Zion AME Church, Ellendale, Del. and was a member of Second Baptist Church men's choir in Philadelphia and past member of Masonic Brother of Hiriam. He also attended Grant AME Church, Chesihurst, N.J. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice Higgins; three sons, James Jr., Victor and Edward; and two daughters, Beatrice Tucker and Hazel Higgins. He is survived by his second wife, Elma of Ellendale, Del. and Chesihurst; two daughters, Geneva Scott of Philadelphia and Victoria Thomas of Kingsland, Ga.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Vernon and Regina Higgins of Wilimington, Del, and Richard Higgins of Chesilhurst; two daughters-in-law, Tae-IM of Cherryhill, N.J. and Brenda Higgins of Philadelphia; a brother and sister-in- law, Ralph and Velma Higgins of Philadelphia; a sister, Florence Lord of Philadelphia; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Higgins of Dover and Doretha Harris of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Alexander Jackson of Greensboro, N.C.; 32 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be noon Friday in Mt. Zion A.M.E. in Ellendale, where friends may call two hours earlier. Burial will be in St. Jones Cemetery, Greenwood, following the service. Moore of Smyrna, formerly of Blades, died of heart failure Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 81. Mr. Moore was born in Battle Creek, Mich., son of the late Fred C. and Lucille L. Poole Moore. He attended the University of Florida and Purdue University from which he graduated. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of War World II. Mr. Moore was an industrial engineer for the Lowe Paper Company in Ridgefield, N.J., retiring in 1986 after 30 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Jean Marshall Moore, in 1996. Services will be private. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. She was 68. Mrs. Randall was born Aug. 28, 1934 in New Jersey, daughter of the late Richard and Susie Titus. She married Raymond W. Randall on March 23, 1957. Mrs. Randall attended Dover Air Force Base Chapel since 1978. She served the Lord there as a dedicated usher and choir member. She was dedicated to her God and her family. She is survived by her husband, Raymond W. Randall Sr.; four sons, Raymond W. Randall Jr., Gerald V. Randall, Mark G. Randall and Russell E. Randall; three daughters, Susan H. Wimbush, Tracy B. Coleman and Mary E. Randall; a brother, Richard Titus; three sisters, Marie Turner, Edna Titus and Gwendolynn Titus; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. --------------------------------------------------------------- * John Samuel Sigler, 82 LEWES - John Samuel Sigler of Lewes died of heart failure Monday, March 24, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 82. Mr. Sigler was born Feb. 1, 1921 in Frederick, Md., son of the late Ralph William and Alice Virginia (Miller) Sigler. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1938. Mr. Sigler was employed as a veterinary technician and animal caretaker for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Md. for 37 years. He retired in 1986 and moved to Lewes. He enjoyed local travel, farming and gardening. Mr. Sigler was a member of the Lutheran Church of our Savior, Rehoboth Beach, Henlopen Grange No. 20 and the the Lewes Senior Center. He was active in community service delivering Meals on Wheels for more than 15 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Mae Parker. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia S. Sigler; three daughters, Carol A. Joyce of Arlington, Va., Norma Jean Parks of Harbeson and Susan S. Phillips of Hamilton, Va.; a son, John D. Sigler of Suwanee, Ga.; two brothers, Ralph C. Sigler of Elkmont, Ala. and Robert A. Sigler of Middletown, Md.; a sister, Miriam Shafer of Middletown; six grandchildren, Sandra, James and B. Travis Parks, Melissa Sibert, Evan and Elizabeth Phillips; and a great-grandson, Nathan Sibert. Services will be noon Friday in the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 7 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be private. Instead of flowers, contribution may be made to the Lutheran Church of our Savior Building Fund. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Rev. Harley Ernest Tice of Ft. Lauderdale, formerly of Laurel, Del. died Saturday, March 22, 2003, in Citrus Memorial Hospital. He was 78. The Rev. Tice was born July 6, 1924, son of the late Harley and Margaret Tice. He served our country during World War II in the Navy. He was a retired evangelist. The Rev. Tice was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Inverness. He is survived by a son, Gerold Tice of Ft. Lauderdale; six daughters, Marnie Tice and Laurie Kinzinski both of Ft. Lauderdale, Holly Langiois of West Palm Beach, Connie Gayle of Cocoa, Maureen Issacson of Floral City and Deneen Ratchford of Colorado; a brother, Marvel Tice of Laurel, Del.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services were in the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home of Inverness. Pastors Dairold Rushing and LeRoy Bellamy officiated.
