Adkins, 58 MILTON - Ruth J. Adkins of Milton died following six weeks of illness Monday, March 17, 2003, in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, surrounded by her family. She was 58. Mrs. Adkins was born in Upper Darby, Pa., daughter of the late Charles and Mary McCabe Cauler. She was the general manager for Shawnee Country Club, Milford, for 10 years, retiring several years ago. She loved horses and also enjoyed bowling and golfing. Mrs. Adkins was a member of the Zoar United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Adkins, and a brother, Richard Cauler. She was 76. Mrs. Altfather was born in Salisbury, daughter of the late Laverty Thomas and Emma Pettyjohn Steele. She was a beautician in her home in Denton and a homemaker. Mrs. Altfather loved to play golf and bridge and was a charter member of the Caroline Country Club. She also was a member of the Caroline American Legion Post 29 Auxiliary and a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, both in Denton. She is survived by her husband, Harold J. She moved to Delaware in her youth. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother. Mrs. Boyles was a member of St. Polycarp Parish, Smyrna; and a life member and past president of the ladies auxiliary of Citizens' Hose Co., Smyrna. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Boyles, in 1976; and a grandson, Greg Melville, in 1988. She was 83. Mrs. Christophel was born in Krebs, Okla., daughter of the late James T. and Nora B. Sadler. She enjoyed a wonderful life after leaving McAlester and lived in the Washington, D.C., area. Mrs. Christophel worked for the FBI, and later, the Department of the Army at the Pentagon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Christophel Sr.; and a grandson, Greg G. Poynter. Fountain Jr., 87 GREENSBORO, Md. - Walter M. Fountain Jr. of Greensboro died of natural causes Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 87. Mr. Fountain was born July 8, 1915, in Hickman, son of the late Walter M. Fountain Sr. and Mary Emma Cohee Fountain. He was a lifetime resident of the Greensboro area. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army as a platoon sergeant for the 106th Infantry Division. He retired from DuPont as an instrument mechanic in 1977 after 32 years. Mr. Fountain was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Greensboro Post 7937 and the American Legion Post 2 in Denton. He also was a member of the Redman Lodge, Greensboro, and a charter member of Seaford, Del. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4961. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline (Gardner) Fountain, in 1991; two brothers, E. Lester and Carl N. Burial will be in Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, near Hurlock. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Ruth Evans Hoye, 79 MILLVILLE - Ruth Evans Hoye of Millville died of cancer Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in the home of her daughter, Priscilla Hoye Scott, in Ocean View. She was 79. Ms. Hoye was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of William and Mildred Evans of Ocean View. The Evans family first settled in the area that is today South Bethany in the late 17th century. She received her RN degree from Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing. Ms. Hoye served as a nurse in the Army Air Corps at Maxwell Field, Ala., during World War II, with the rank of second lieutenant. She was a private-duty nurse at Long Island Jewish Hospital and served as a nurse in the office of a pediatric allergist in Levittown, Long Island, N.Y. She retired as a pediatric nurse. Ms. Hoye was a volunteer at the South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach, where she vacationed throughout her life. She had maintained a second residence in Millville with her husband, Lynn Hoye, since the 1960s, and they retired there in 1978. In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by an additional daughter, Barbara Hoye Buckingham of Annapolis, Md.; a son, Keith Hoye of Boynton Beach, Fla.; three grandsons; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson. He also worked at Townsends Inc. in Millsboro for 16 years. Mr. Kelley was a member of the Pilgrims' Ministry of Deliverance Church, Georgetown. She was 88. Mrs. Lusardi was born in Glasgow, daughter of the late Octavio and Elizabeth George. She attended the Newark Schools. In 1933, she became "Our First Miss Delaware." In the 1940s, she started the first sub shop in Newark. It was known as "Angie's Sub Shop." She also worked at the National Vulcanize Fiber Mill, where she later retired. She was a devoted mother, wife, sister and, most of all, a loving grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George G. Lusardi, in 1981. She is survived by her four children, Connie Magaw of Elkton, Md., Victor Lusardi of Newark and George Lusardi and Regina Seiger, both of Mississippi; a sister, Mary Rossi of Wilmington; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Stella of Felton died Sunday, March 16, 2003, in the place of his business, Edward V. Stella, P.E., in Wyoming. He was 54. Mr. Stella was born July 29, 1948, in Clearfield, Pa., son of Cornelia Hanson Stella of Wyoming and the late James Stella. He was a graduate of Pennsylvania State College (now University) in Collegeville, Pa., and received his master's degree from the University of Delaware in Newark. Mr. Stella moved to Dover in 1972 to work for General Foods, leaving to work for O.A. Newton in Bridgeville for 10 years, then for Cam-Del Metals for three years. He had operated his own engineering firm for the past 10 years. He had enjoyed many hours on his computer. Mr. Stella served as president of the Professional Engineers Society for 10 years, was treasurer of Delaware on Site Waste Water Recycling Association committee at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 15 years, Shirley of Felton; a stepson, Roland Everett of Hartly; a stepdaughter, Deborah McGinnes of Cambridge, Md.; two brothers, Joseph Stella and William Stella both of Levittown, Pa.; two sisters and their husbands, Patricia and John J. Weatherly of Georgetown died from complications of diabetes Monday, March 17, 2003, in Lofland Lifecare, Seaford. He was 83. Dr. Weatherly was born in 1920 in South Carolina, he was the last survivor of twelve siblings. He was the founding president of Delaware Technical and Community College and served in that capacity from 1966 through 1978. Dr. Weatherly began his undergraduate education at Belmont Abby in North Carolina, attending the college on a football scholarship. During World War II he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he trained as a bomber pilot and flew 55 combat missions over Italy. After the war, Dr. Weatherly completed his bachelor's degree and master's degree in education at the University of Illinois, where he also met and married his wife, Barbara (Miller) Weatherly. Before his involvement in technical education, he enjoyed success as a housing contractor, high-school basketball coach, teacher and small-business owner. Dr. Weatherly's career in education administration began in North Carolina and continued in South Carolina, where he assisted in setting up the South Carolina Tech program. In 1966, he was hired to establish the DT'&;'CC program where he served as President until 1978. After retiring from that position, Dr. Weatherly continued to be involved with DT'&;'CC as, president emeritis and as a member of the school's board of trustees. Among his many professional honors, Dr. Weatherly was twice awarded the Order of the First State, once by Gov. Russell Petersen and later by Gov. Tom Carper. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Barbara Weatherly; a daughter, Barbara Mignon Weatherly and her husband Dean Johnson of St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands; a daughter, Debra Dennis and son-in-law Drake Dennis of Georgetown; and two grandsons, Jason and Adam Dennis, both of Boston.
