She was 87. Mrs. Bell was born in Perquimans County, daughter of the late Eugene F. Simpson and Julia Miller Simpson Bundy. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Bell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Felton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Bell; a daughter, Helen Emily Malko Liddle and two brothers, W.W. Bundy and John C. Bundy. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Clifford J. "Pete" and Beckie Perry; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances B. and Ray Perry, and Annie B. and Aubrey Onley; a brother and sister-in-law, Calvin M. and Lela Bundy of Hertford; a sister-in-law, Mildred A. Bundy of Hertford; nine grandchildren, Scott G. Perry of Hertford, Sheila P. Evans of Edenton, Gwendolyn P. Eaton of Pensacola, Fla., Shirley M. Osman of Utica, N.Y., Vera M. Wetteroff of Barnhart, Mo., Michael Malko of Eunice, Mo., John Alan Malko of Double Oak, Texas, Melodie M. Lockler of Kansas City, Mo. and Teresa M. Bowman, 72 MILFORD - William P. Bowman of Milford died Friday, March 14, 2003, in his home. He was 72. Mr. Bowman was born in Milford, son of the late J. Irvin Bowman and Carrie Hummel Bowman. He graduated from Milford High School in 1948 and attended the University of Delaware. Mr. Bowman was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the Milford Post Office as a rural mail carrier for 22 years. He also farmed and raised beef cattle. He worked for many years plowing gardens, mowing and removing snow. He was in the school bus business for 40 years and owned and operated Bowman Charter Bus Service for many years. Mr. Bowman was a member of the Delmarva Flying Farmers Association and a member of the Milford's first Boy Scout troop, which was started by his father, who was also the scoutmaster. He was also a member of the House of Praise for All People Church, Stationsville. He was very involved with mission work in Aruba. He helped with the construction of Bible Way Baptist Church and providing and delivering a bus for Sunday school ministry. He was also responsible for founding and implementing the Terrific Kid Program for the Milford School District. He lived for riding his snowmobile, four-wheeling, camping and riding motorcycles with the Christian Motorcyclist Association. Besides his love for his family and his church, his next great love was for his two dogs, Sam and Terry. They were his constant companions and loved to travel everywhere with him. He is survived by his wife, Carol Kimmel Bowman of Milford; a daughter, Diana Vincent of Houston; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James A. and Wendy Bowman of Milford, and Brian P. Bowman of Florida; and four grandchildren, Joshua Bowman, Cody Bowman, Stacy Vincent, and Tina Vincent. He was 74. Mr. Camac was born in Harrington, son of the late Alexander Camac and Sadie Sapp Camac. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Camac was an electrician for the Reynolds Metal Company. He loved to hunt and fish and also liked to go camping. Mr. Camac will be remembered as a loving, caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather and he especially liked to spoil his grandchildren. Mr. Camac attended the Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington and was a member of the Harrington Senior Center. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan A. Camac of Harrington; two sons, Robert Lee Camac of Philadelphia and Daniel M. Camac of Wilmington; two sisters, Sarah Hobbs of Harrington and Sally Peyton of Pittsburgh, Ohio; and six grandchildren. Letters of condolence may be sent to www.melvinfuneralhome.com or www.delmarvaobits.com. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Lewis Hayes Dickerson, 80 MILFORD - Lewis Hayes Dickerson of Milford died Friday, March 14, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. He was 80. Mr. Dickerson was born in Milford, son of the late Augustus and Laura (Murphy) Dickerson. He was a graduate of Milford High School. class of 1940 and the University of Delaware, class of 1946, where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity. He served in three wars, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, during his 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Dickerson was working at the Milford Chronicle as advertising manager when his reserve unit, the 512th Troop Carrier Wing, was activated in 1951. He served with the Strategic Air Command from 1951 to 1961 and flew intelligence collection missions worldwide during the Cold War. His select crew in SAC won numerous awards flying the RB-47 six engine jet in airborne competitions, including a first place world Navigation trophy. He was assigned to the special activities section at USAF headquarters in Washington, D.C. from 1961 to 1965, where he served as liaison officer to the Central Intelligence Agency and served as project officer for several flight operations in intelligence activities. He transferred to the U.S. Air Forces of Europe in 1965 and continued serving in the special activities section until recalled to Washington, D.C. in 1967. He was serving in Vietnam in 1968 when he became ill and returned to the United States. He retired from the Air Force in 1969 as a lieutenant colonel and returned to Milford to become the publisher of the Milford Chronicle. He worked with his wife, Elaine Townsend Dickerson, a well-known newspaper columnist, and helped continue a newspaper tradition established by her paternal grandfather, Col. Theodore Townsend, who founded the Milford Chronicle in 1878, and continued by her parents, Virginia and G. Marshall Townsend. Mr. Dickerson was also a partner in the Downing Oil Company that was later sold to Peninsula Oil. In the 1970s he founded the Chronicle-owned County Post in Millsboro and later was a founding partner in the Kent-Sussex Shopper (now the Delmarva Shopper). In 1982 the Milford Chronicle was sold to Chesapeake Publishing Corporation, which also purchased the Shopper in 1983. Mr. Dickerson returned as publisher of the Chronicle in 1983 and retired as editor emeritus in 1991. He then became director of market research for Chesapeake Publishing, where his new division, Mid-Atlantic Research and Marketing, conducted research surveys, developed computerized demographic data, and produced computerized sales presentations for the CPC chain's 42 publications. Mr. Dickerson was a board member of many organizations including the Delaware Foundation and the Delaware Community Foundation for more than 15 years and the Supreme Court Disciplinary Council Committee for six years. He was a member of Avenue United Methodist Church, Milford, where he was a past chairperson of the administrative board. He served on the University of Delaware Alumni Awards Committee and was a past president of the Milford Chamber of Commerce. He held a private pilot's license and had flown several round trips from Milford to Kansas. He was an amateur radio operator, call sign K3FSP, and communicated with other ham radio operators worldwide. In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lynne D. and Ace Sarich of Annapolis, Md., Dawn D. and David Kenton of Milford, and Leslie Dickerson of Springfield, Va.: six grandchildren, Casey Hayes Kenton of Rehoboth; D. Fletcher Kenton of Milford; Suzanne Medairy and her husband Brad, of Potomac Falls, Va.; Holly Dehart, Diana and Laura Sarich, all of Annapolis; and a great-granddaughter, Ella Medairy of Potomac Falls. He was 67. Mr. Melvin was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Goldsboro, son of the late Wilbur and Nellie Kemp Melvin. He served with the 88th Airborne Divison of the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957. He was a chemical operator for Reichold Chemicals, Cheswold, Del., retiring after 28 years. Mr. Melvin enjoyed hunting, bluegrass music, the Baltimore Orioles, and being with friends and family, especially his wife, children, grandchildren, many special nieces and nephews, and his newest love, his great-granddaughter. He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 45 years, Jeannette L. Melvin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Bill Cubbage of Frederica, Del., Linda and Harry Legates Jr. of Marydel and Debbie and Gary Glanden of Willow Grove, Del.; a son and daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Esther Melvin of Hartly, Del.; three brothers, Wilbert Melvin Sr. of Dover, Del.
