Brittingham Bowens, 78 DOVER - Mary V. Brittingham Bowens of Dover died after a long-term illness Saturday, March 8, 2003, in Green Valley Pavilion Nursing Home, Smyrna. She was 78. Mrs. Bowens was born Dec. 12, 1924, daughter of the late Robert and Bessie Johnson. She lived most of her life in Maryland until she moved to Utica, N.Y. She worked at St. Luke Memorial Hospital until she retired and moved to Dover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Johnson; a brother, Eddie Johnson; two daughters, Mary Ann Baker and Rose Brittingham; and two sons, James Thomas and Robert Brittingham. She is survived by her husband, Vernell Bowens of Dover; a brother, Charles Johnson of Centreville, Md.; three sons, Charles "Chip" Brittingham of Dover, Conwell Brittingham of Easton, Md., and George "Hickey" Brittingham of Centreville; a daughter, Della "Pat" Roberts of Smyrna; a son-in-law, Leroy Roberts of Smyrna; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Brittingham of Easton, Md.; 29 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and host of other family members and friends. He was 79. Mr. Casey was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Baltimore, son of the late Samuel and Rose Hartman Casey. He worked on a farm for many years and on May 1, 1950, began working at Delmarva Sash '&;' Door Co., of Barclay, retiring on Aug. 15, 1990. Mr. Casey loved his family, gardening and baseball. He was also an avid New York Yankee fan. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Roxanne Casey; and two brothers, George and Elvin Casey. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, whom he married on Aug. 6, 1949, Mary Ann Casey; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy Casey and David Osborn of Barclay and Penny Casey and Kevin Urie of Millington; four grandchildren, Jennifer Osborn Rhode, David Michael Osborn, Stephanie Michelle Urie and Jessica Rae Urie; a great-grandson, Jason Craig Rhode; two brothers, Charles Casey of Crumpton and Edward Casey of Frederick; and several nieces and nephews. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force in the 1607th Civil Engineer Squad. He created and taught the HVAC program at Sussex Vocational Technical School. Henry of Laurel died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 55. Mr. Henry was born in Milford, son of the late William L. and Madelyn B. Henry. He grew up in Laurel. He received his bachelor of science degree in agricultural education and his master's degree from the University of Delaware, and was a student at Wilmington College, Cohort No. 6. Mr. Henry was previously employed with the Bureau of Census and the Sussex Vo-Tech School District, a teacher of agriculture at Caesar Rodney High School and Laurel Senior High and an agri-business instructor at Delaware Technical and Community College. He was also a partner in Evergreen Farms in Laurel and, most recently, he was assistant director for Tech Prep Delaware. Some of his favorite pastimes were landscaping, working mainly with flowers, and cooking. Mr. Henry was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the Governor's Advisory Council on Career Education for 30 years, the Association for Career and Technical Education, the National Tech Prep Network, Delaware Association of School Administrators and an honorary Delaware FFA member. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Arba L. and Martha L. Henry of Quarryville, Pa.; a niece, Elizabeth L. Henry of Quarryville; and a nephew, Brian W. Henry of Quarryville. She was 102. She was known affectionately as "Aunt Annie" or "Mother Johnson." Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 16, 1900, in Queen Anne's County, Md., daughter of the late Sarah Emily and Riner Nichols. At age 24 she gave her heart in marriage to the late Oliver Wallace Johnson, who had lived in Denton, Md. She began her Christian experience as a member of John Wesley Methodist Church in Denton, Md. After moving to Harrington in the early 1930s, she and her late husband attended Metropolitan M.E. Church, which was later renamed United Methodist. She is survived by a daughter, Rosanna Smith of Dover; three nieces, Ida Mae Brown and Sarah Staten of Denton and Bertie Mae Johnson of Chance, Md.; a nephew, Thomas Brown of Denton; and a host of great nieces, relatives and friends. 'Trina' Krumrie, 23 JACKSON, Mo. - Katrina M. "Trina" Krumrie of Jackson, formerly of Dover, Del., died in a tragic house fire Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in Cape Girardeau. She was 23. Ms. Krumrie was born July 30, 1979, in Dover, Del., daughter of Wayne and Vicky Shockley of Jackson. She graduated from Dover High School and moved to Jackson in December 2001. She had been attending Southeast Missouri State University the past year and was working toward a degree in elementary education. Ms. Krumrie was employed by Applebee's Restaurant in Cape Girardeau. She and her little sister, Cori of Jackson, thoroughly enjoyed each other and spent time together as often as possible. Cori referred to her as the "best big sister." Ms. Krumrie attended LaCroix United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and her little sister, she is survived by a stepbrother, Wayne Shockley Jr. of Dover; a stepsister, Amy Stup of Massey, Md.; her maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Chester Walter of Jackson; her paternal grandfather, Bob Shockley of Chestertown, Md.; a maternal aunt, to whom she was very close, Lisa Walter of Park City, Utah; and several other aunts, uncles and cousins. He was 59. Mr. Morris was born Aug. 30, 1943, in Centreville, son of Hazel Hammond Morris of Easton and the late Herman Redman Morris. He graduated from Centreville High School in 1961. He later served in the U.S. Army as a Green Beret. Following his release from active duty, he returned to Centreville, where he operated the BP Gas Station until 1973. He then worked as a waterman in the seafood industry. While working as a waterman he also became manager of Jeff Davis Post 18 in Centreville. On Feb. 16, 2001, he married the former Florance "Flossye" Councell Walls of Centreville. Mr. Morris was a member of American Legion Post 18, the Sons of the American Legion, 40-8 and the Bay Country Moose Lodge in Queenstown. 'Chris' Nielsen, 63 CAMDEN - Christian S. "Chris" Nielsen of Camden died of natural causes Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in his home. He was 63. Mr. Nielsen was born June 17, 1939, son of the late Christian O. Nielsen and Marie Jensen Nielsen. He worked for Mike's Upholstery in Camden and previously had been a truck driver for many years for several companies. Mr. Nielsen had a great interest in cars, and he also liked to go boating in his earlier years. He is survived by a son, William C. Nielsen of Chestertown, Md.; a stepdaughter, Terri Nielsen of Chestertown; five sisters and two brothers-in- law, Clara Warner of Jackson, N.C., Alma Shelton and Vicki and Dick Stoops, all of Dover, Doris and Paul Sipple of Smyrna and Ruth and Stuart Scott of Berlin, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a favorite charity. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Betty Lou Perry, 74 DOVER - Betty Lou Perry of Dover died peacefully Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in her home with her husband Russell, and her son and daughter-in-law, Bradford B. and Jeannie Pearce at her side. She was 74. Mrs. Perry was born Nov. 13, 1928, in Milford, daughter of the late Pearle and Whitely Webb. For many years, she was in the beauty supply business and owned and managed the Professional Beauty Supply Co. in Dover, serving the Delmarva peninsula, until her retirement in 1987. Since 1955, she had been a life member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority, having received her master laureate degree, and was a longtime member and past president of the Laureate Gamma Chapter in Dover. She was a member of the Wyoming-Camden Round Table Club, where until recently, she was actively involved in club activities. Until recently she was an active member of the Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital junior board. Previous activities included Read- Aloud, Meals on Wheels, Dover Air Force Base Officers Wives Club, the club's thrift shop and volunteer at the base dental clinic. Mrs. Perry had run in 3K races in Rockville, Md., and Wilmington, and for a short time held the 3K record in the state for women of her age group. She also participated in the Delaware Senior Olympics, winning a number of gold and silver awards. She was an avid golfer while a member of Shawnee Country Club, Wild Quail Golf and Country Club and most recently Eagle Creek Golf Course, Dover Air Force Base. Her golfing included playing on 45 courses in the Middle Atlantic states, North and South Carolina and Bermuda. She was a gracious, refined, caring lady who was deeply concerned about the well-being of her family, particularly her grandchildren Brooks, Jena and Ali. Her home, a center of her life, was decorated beautifully by her; it was always in her mind and her concern to make guests feel welcome and comfortable in her home, and she did. Mrs. Perry was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. In the 1950s and '60s, as a member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Camden, she was involved in the church's youth activities. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine K. Pearce, in 1970. In addition to her husband, son and daughter-in-law, she is survived by three grandchildren, Brooks, Jena and Ali Pearce, all of Dover; a sister, Agnes West of Milford; two brothers, Alton G. He was a graduate of Milford High School and graduated in 1977 from Bowman Technical School with a degree in watch making. He was a warehouse general manager with Stauffer's of Kissel Hill, Manheim, Pa. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and watching sports, especially the Philadelphia teams. He loved beach activities such as fishing and boating. He loved Cape May. She was 82. Mrs. Slatcher was born in Gumboro, daughter of the late Lee and Elizabeth Baker. She was a sales clerk at Taylored Tackle Shop, Seaford, for 14 years. Prior to that, she worked at the DuPont Co., Seaford, in the cafeteria. Mrs. Slatcher attended Christ Evangelistic Church, Laurel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Theodore Joseph Taylor Sr., in 1983; a son, Theodore J. Taylor Jr., in 1985; and her second husband, Oliver Slatcher, in 1987. She is survived by two sons, Gary P. Taylor of Salisbury, Md., and Jerry L. Taylor Sr. of Seaford; a brother, Charles Baker of Millsboro; a sister, Doris Revel of Millsboro; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was 86. Mrs. Thompson was born Nov. 24, 1916, in Ridgely, daughter of the late Thomas and Bessie Thomas Tribbitt. She was a lifetime resident of Caroline County. She worked most of her young life as a seamstress for Rob Roy Shirt Factory in Ridgely. She and her husband owned and operated several family stores, including the Log Cabin and the Texaco service station in west Denton. She also worked in the cafeteria at North Caroline High School and at Brown's Tastee-Freez, Denton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Thompson, in November 1977; a brother, Ernest Tribbitt; and four sisters, Edna Wheeler, Clara Hartsock, Ann Maloney and Margie Mullins. He was 77. Mr. Whitson was born in Relief, N.C., son of the late Calvin Whitson and Nerva Barnett Whitson. He moved to Caroline County at a young age. He was a truck driver for Salisbury Brothers in Ridgely and had driven for Elliott Brothers and many other companies during his truck driving years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Goad Whitson, on April 29, 2002; two brothers, Starlin Whitson and Cas Whitson; and a sister, and Alma Whitson.
