Bunting, 97 SELBYVILLE - Dorothy E. Bunting of Selbyville died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Snow Hill (Md.) Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 97. Mrs. Bunting was born in Showell, Md., daughter of the late Clayton and Eva Hickman Wells. She had been a clerk for the former Sewing Basket store, Selbyville. She and her husband co-owned and operated Sam's Esso, Ocean City, Md., until 1983. Mrs. Bunting was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Selbyville; and the Selbyville Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies' Auxiliary since 1940. In 1988, at the company's 75th anniversary ceremony, she was honored as the oldest living member of the auxiliary. She modeled her handmade uniform, which she wore in more than 25 parades and donated the uniform to the fire company for display. She also was a member of Ayita Council 19, improved order of Redmen Degree of Pocahontas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Sammy J. Bunting, in 1984. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Blanche P. and Bill Williams of Snow Hill; two grandchildren, Susan Long and her husband, Jerry, of Selbyville and Wayne Williams and his wife, Alice, of Salisbury, Md.; four great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Carmean of Lewes died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 78. Mrs. Carmean was born in Hicksville, Ohio, daughter of the late Pierre and Geneva Gier Swan. She was a sales associate at Braunstein's, Rehoboth Beach. Mrs. Carmean loved gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Carmean. Ellis of Greenwood, formerly of Frederica, died of natural causes Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Country Rest Home, Greenwood. He was 83. Mr. Ellis was born in Reliance, west of Seaford near the Maryland line, son of the late Ernest C. and Clara (Coulbourne) Ellis. He was a shipping-and-receiving clerk for Railway Express, Dover, retiring in 1981. Mr. Ellis was a life member of the Frederica Volunteer Fire Co. and a member of the Murderkill Lions Club; Trinity United Methodist Church, Frederica; and the United Methodist Men. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Nauman and Edith Mears. He is survived by four children and the spouses of three, Carol A. and Walter Dill of Felton, David N. and Lynn Ellis of Madison, Ala., Linda and Wayne Short of Milford, and Donald E. Box 283, Frederica, DE 19946. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Willie 'Sonny' Frazier Jr., 70 DOVER - Willie "Sonny" Frazier Jr. of Dover died Friday, March 7, 2003, at the Silver Lake Center, Dover, where he was well cared for and loved by the staff. He was 70. Mr. Frazier was born July 30, 1932, in Auburn, Ala., son of the late Willie L. Frazier Sr. and Margaret F. Spottswood. He moved to Dover in 1959. "Sonny," as his friends and family called him, received his education in the school system of Auburn and at Parker Gray High School, Alexandria, Va. He played football and basketball. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined White Street Baptist Church, Auburn, where he attended Sunday school and church. After moving to Alexandria with his mother and stepfather, Ralph Spottswood, he united with Ebenezer Baptist Church, Alexandria. After high school, Willie served in the U.S. Army and was in the Korean War, where he received the National Defense service medal, the United Nations service medal and the Korean Service medal with one Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged Oct. 29, 1954. He was a professional painter and was employed by Dover Air Force Base until his retirement. Mr. Frazier was a member of American Legion William Thomas Post 129, Alexandria. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter. He is survived by three daughters and a son. Horney of Denton died after a short illness Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Caroline Hospice Nursing Home, Denton. He was 87. Mr. Horney was born in Queen Anne's County, son of the late Alpheus and Lanie Dean Horney. He retired from the DuPont Co.'s Wilmington (Del.) Shops, where he was a machinist, in 1979 after 37 years of service. Mr. Horney enjoyed trapshooting, bowling and traveling, especially to Maine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Morgan Horney, in 1969; three brothers, Dean Horney, Alpheus "Al" Horney and Marvin Horney; and four sisters, Beulah Bear, Dorothy Breeding, Mary Buckle and Mabel Cole. He was 85. Mr. Hunt was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Colfax, Wash., son of the late Inez Hunt and Lee Hunt. At the beginning of World War II, he worked for Boeing Aircraft, Seattle, and later, in the aerospace industry in Huntsville, Ala., until his retirement in 1977. He then went on to work in the design division for the mass-transit system in Miami before moving to Rehoboth Beach, where he worked as an architect until his final retirement at age 80. For the past four years, Mr. Hunt had been studying the Bible, and devoting time to drawing and writing papers. He enjoyed writing poetry and wrote a paper on prime numbers and mathematical theory. He also was an avid pastel artist and was fascinated by family genealogy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Camille Helseth. He is survived by his wife, Margaret C. Hunt; a son, Joel Hunt of Washington state; three daughters, Jennifer Hunt Morrison of Washington state, Judith Hunt of Maine and Janet Leonard of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Wilma Tilley and Irma Shiffner, both of Washington state; and four grandchildren. She was 68. Mrs. Kenney lived in Camden for 35 years. After her husband's retirement from civil service at Dover Air Force Base, they moved back to their hometown, Flemingsburg, Ky. Mrs. Kenney was an excellent homemaker, being an active parent with the Camden-Wyoming Little League and supporting her sons and husband, Joe, at the baseball games. Later on, she assisted her husband with the NeuTemple Fife '&;' Drum Corps, Wilmington. She is survived by her husband of 51 years this March, Joe D. Kenney; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim and Joy Kenney, and John Kenney, all of Lexington, and Joe David and Robin Kenney of Georgetown, Ky.; a daughter and son-in-law, Joni and Charles Warren of Niceville, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked as an ammunition inspector in civil service at Dover Air Force Base for 27 years. He was a life member and past president of the Hartly Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. and past vice commander the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8801, Clayton. And for many years, he was an adult leader, den dad, Scout master, explorer adviser and Mid-Del commissioner for the Boy Scouts. He also received the Silver Beaver Award. Melvin, 63 HARRINGTON - Charles I. Melvin of Harrington died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at The Memorial Hospital at Easton (Md.). He was 63. Mr. Melvin was born in Harrington, son of Mable Melvin and the late John Irvin Melvin. He was a mechanic and maintenance man who could fix anything and wasn't afraid to tackle a task that he didn't know anything about. He loved to fish. He was a very loving and caring husband, father and son. He loved spoiling his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Melvin was a member of Eagles Nest-East Church, where he served as an usher and greeter. He also held a Bible study group Sunday nights at the Heritage Manor Community Center. He worked for the Atlantic '&;' Pacific Tea Co., as assistant manager in the Dover A'&;'P, then moved to the Smyrna Super Fresh where he worked as dairy manager and in receiving, retiring in 1995 after 46 years with the company. Mr. Sipple was a life member of the Leipsic Volunteer Fire Co., with 53 years of service, holding the offices of chief, president, and at the time of his death, treasurer. Jimmie was an instructor at the fire school when it was in Camden-Wyoming. He served on a committee of three to form the Delaware State Fire School that exists today. He also was active in the Recruitment and Retention Committee. He was a member of the FOP Lodge, the District 14/28 Democrat Club and the Smyrna-Clayton 4th of July Committee. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was 63. Mr. Worley was born in Whitwell, Tenn., son of the late Henry C. and Ada E. VanHouser Worley. He did heating and air-conditioning work for Shellhorn and Hill, Wilmington, for 25 years, retiring in 1988 due to disability. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Charlotte Smulski Sulecki Worley; a son, Patrick Worley of Millsboro; four daughters, Susan Krouse of York, Pa., and Donna Simpson, Kimberly Ingram and Michelle Blue, all of Wilmington; three stepsons, Fred Sulecki of Bear, Michael Sulecki of Newark and Brian Sulecki of Millsboro; a brother, Kenneth Worley of Newark; a sister, Marie Riley of Smyrna; and 16 grandchildren. He was expecting his first great-grandson in April. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier.
