He was 87. Mr. Miller was born Wednesday, July 7, 1915, in Binghamton, N.Y., son of the late William Henry Miller Sr. and Goldie (Goodrich) Miller. He graduated from Cornell Hotel School at Cornell University in 1938. Mr. Miller was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Okinawa campaign. He formerly was the director of food services for Virginia Tech University and State University and the University of Florida. Mr. Miller was involved in missions with the Presbyterian Church for many years, based in and working out of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beryl Salsbury Miller, in 1987. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, James G. and Shirley Miller of Rehoboth Beach and Stephen H. Miller, as well as Stephen's companion, Devon Osborne, both of Baltimore; two grandchildren, James G. Miller Jr. of Severna Park, Md., and Julie Girard of Mount Airy, Md.; an adopted grandson, Vitili Osborne of Baltimore; a step-grandson, Kit Hastings of Severna Park; six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes. Burial will be private. 'Gene' Myers, 69 DOVER - Alvin E. "Gene" Myers of Dover, formerly of Greenwood, died peacefully Monday, June 2, 2003, in his home. He was 69. Mr. Myers was born Oct. 24, 1933, in Boone, Iowa, son of the late Charles and Della Peters Myers. He spent the last year living at the home of his son, David Myers, while fighting cancer and heart problems. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant after 22 years of service. He later drove a truck for Burris Foods and Greenhurst Farms for nearly 20 years. Mr. Myers was a member of ABATE and a former member of the Moose Lodge in Dover. In addition to his son, David, he is survived by two other sons, Richard Myers of Hartly and Stephen Myers of Berwyn, Pa.; a daughter, Debra Veenema of Newark; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Savage of the Long Neck area, formerly of Wilmington, died Monday, June 2, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 77. Mr. Savage was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired auto body shop manager for the Fine Olds/Martin dealership, retiring in 1988. He loved fishing and boating. Mr. Savage was a lifetime member of Cranston Heights Fire Department in Wilmington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harper and Ida Savage; his first wife, Katherine; and stepson, David L. Counts. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Roberta D. Savage; two sons, Alfred W. Savage Jr. and John S. Savage; five daughters, Patricia Fountain, Stephanie Porter, Pamela Inzillo, Melinda Harrison and Deanna Savage; a brother, Harper Savage; two sisters, Viola Telford and Jean Fountain; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Long Neck chapel of Melson Funeral Services, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be private. Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 600 Du Pont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Grover Lee 'Tarheel' Spencer, 83 GEORGETOWN - Grover Lee "Tarheel" Spencer of Georgetown died Monday, June 2, 2003, in his home. He was 83. Mr. Spencer was born in New Bern, N.C., son of the late Lee and Lillie Lewis Spencer. He was a U.S. army veteran of World War II. He was a brick mason for the former I.W. Long '&;' Sons Co. in Selbyville for 22 years, retiring in 1982. Mr. Spencer was a member of the Duncan Showell VFW Post in Berlin, Md. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Aline Johnson Spencer, in 1968. He is survived by two sons, Barry Johnson of Georgetown and Robert R. Spencer of Berlin; four daugh-ters, Joyce Silla of Washington, D.C., Brenda T. Wise of Selbyville, Cassandra Johnson of Lincoln and Cynthia Denise Johnson of Georgetown, with whom he lived; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services will be noon Thursday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriot's Way, Millsboro. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Marie G. Stokes, 94 MILFORD - Marie G. Stokes of Milford died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 94. Mrs. Stokes was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late John J. Cummings and Alice M. Cummings. She was born and raised in Philadelphia. She moved to Delmar in 1945 and lived there until her retire-ment in 1984, when she moved to Milford. Mrs. Stokes worked in the laundry business for many years, and worked in various establishments. She was a devoted grandmother and her family was her life. She was called "Aunt Hon" to her numerous nieces and nephews in the Philadelphia area. Mrs. Stokes was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church of Harrington. She was also a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Delmar Fire Co. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Stokes, in 1957; and a son, Joseph R. Stokes Jr., in 1972. She is survived by three grandchildren and their spouses, Margaret and Lawrence Legates Jr. of Milford, Joseph R. III and Terry Stokes of Milford and Patricia and Andy Petrach of Austin, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer Legates of Atlanta, Lawrence D. Legates III of Silver Spring, Md., Lisa M. Stokes of Milford, Joseph R. Stokes IV of Newark and Mary R. Stokes of Milford; and a brother, James Cummings of Pennsauken, N.J. Mass will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, Harrington, where friends may call from noon to time of service. The Rev. George Brubaker will officiate.
