'Bus' George Jr., 71 MILLINGTON, Md. - Francis D. "Bus" George Jr. of Millington died Saturday, June 28, 2003, in Kent '&;' Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. He was 71. Mr. George was born July 2, 1931, son of the late Francis D. Sr. and Susabelle King George. He was an U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany. Mr. George worked for 30 years as a heavy equipment operator at Hardwood Mills. He retired in 2002. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and westerns. As life member of the Millington Volunteer Fire Co. with 50 years of service, Mr. George served as chief, assistant chief, chief engineer and director. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Mary Edith Lane George, in 1990. He is survived by four children and their spouses, Francis D. 'Franny' George III and Erlene Schauber, Wayne and India George, Lorraine and Bobby Conover and Debbie and Bennie Shelton, all of Millington; two brothers, Niles George and Charles George, both of Millington; four sisters, Jean Mulford of Newark, Del., Betty McGinnis of Millersville, Nancy Lee Karnes of Marydel and Ruth Ann George of Millington; a brother-in-law, Bobby Lane of Magnolia, Del.; five grandchildren, Mary Davis, Marshall Ellsworth, Lori Conover, Erica Schauber and Kira Mardesich; and five great-grandchildren, Will, Mike and Matthew Davis and Shelby and Tyler Ellsworth. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the fire hall of the Community Volunteer Fire Co. of Millington. Services with Fireman's Honors will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the engine room of the Community Volunteer Fire Co. of Millington. Burial will be in Millington's Asbury Cemetery. Hadaway of Chestertown died Sunday, June 29, 2003, in Kent '&;' Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. She was 86. Mrs. Hadaway was born May 24, 1917, in Stevensville, daughter of the late James K. and Bertie Thompson Benton. In 1937, she married Jesse Graham Hadaway Sr. and moved to Chestertown, where, while raising her family, she helped in his family's business, Hadaway Bros. Sausage and Scrapple. Mrs. Hadaway enjoyed baking and playing bingo. Lately, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jesse Graham Hadaway Sr., in 1995; two brothers, Joseph Benton and Carvel Benton; two sisters, Mae Clendaniel and Elsie Benton; and a granddaughter, Cheri Hardman. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Judy and Bobby Thompson, Trudy and David Morris, all of Chestertown, and Jesse G. Jr. and Michele Hadaway of Joppa; seven grandsons, David Thompson and his wife, Mary, Jeffrey Thompson and his wife, Judy, Joseph Thompson and his wife, Jerri, Michael Hadaway, Steven Hadaway, William Hadaway and his wife, Amanda, and Daniel Hardman; two stepgrandchildren, Dwayne Morris and Gina Morris; and seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Robbie, Michelle, Kyle, Tyler, Kayla and Joshua Thompson. Den Herder of Laurel died Saturday, June 28, 2003, in her home. She was 52. Mrs. Den Herder was born in Laurel, daughter of the late Robert and Beulah Rhodes Wise. She graduated from Delmar High School in the Class of 1968, and then received her associate's degree from Delaware Technical '&;' Community College, Georgetown. Mrs. Den Herder worked as a computer programmer for AllFirst Bank in Millsboro. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert W. Wise and James L. Wise. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Peter J. Den Herder; a son and daughter-in-law, Aaron M. and Angela Den Herder of Eldersburg, Md.; five brothers, Patrick Wise of Center, Ala., Eddie J. Wise and Jerry Wise, both of Laurel, George Rogers of Village of Lady Lakes, Fla. and Robert Wise of Kalkaska, Mich.; five sisters, Marie Barnes of Oil City, Pa., Sheila Edwards of Titusville, Fla., Marty Sinks of Tucson, Ariz., Kay Taylor of Delmar, Md. and Essie Rogers Bonkowski of Cincinnati, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Arthur Hoffman, 86 HARRINGTON - H. Arthur Hoffman of Harrington, formerly of Dover, died Saturday, June 28, 2003, in his home. He was 86. Mr. Hoffman was born in Butler, Pa., son of the late Harry Luther and Charlotte May (Gruver) Hoffman. He was a 1939 graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in horticulture. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Philippines. He continued to show his patriotism until his death by raising his American flag at his home as weather permitted promptly every morning at 7 a.m. and lowering it in the evening at 5 p.m. In 1958, Mr. Hoffman moved from Virginville, Pa., to Harrington and became senior agent for the Farm Family Insurance Company. He was considered an early pioneer for the Farm Family Insurance Company in Dover, working there for 35 years before retiring in 1989. In 1973, Mr. Hoffman was inducted into the Farm Family Insurance Company's hall of fame for outstanding performance over 20 years. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, caring for his roses and watching birds, which he would whistle to on a daily basis. Mr. Hoffman was a people person, spending his time walking the streets of Harrington as well as along the boardwalk and the beaches. When he would spot someone in a Penn State shirt, he would make a special effort to go out of his way to stop these people in their tracks to talk with them. Mr. Hoffman loved spending time with his family and especially would dote over his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Hoffman was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington, where he taught Sunday school for many years and sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Delaware Farm Bureau, the CKRT Post 7 American Legion in Harrington and the VFW Post 7478 in Greenwood. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jewel A. Hoffman; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene and Claude Seward, of Fleetwood, Pa., Ann Louise and Claude Bowden, of Cleveland, Tenn. and Charlyne and Ronnie Hughes, of Harrington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Marlyn Hoffman of Toms Brook, Va. and Rick and Kathy Hoffman of Dover; a brother, Eugene Hoffman, of Butler, 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday in the McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington, where friends may call two hours earlier. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pa. Madrechesia, 84 DOVER - Dorothy K. Madrechesia of Dover died Thursday, June 26, 2003, in her home. She was 84. Mrs. Madrechesia was born in Key West, Fla. She moved to Wilimington in 1947 and spent the greater part of her years as a teacher in the Mount Pleasant School District as a first-grade teacher with an emphasis on reading. She moved to Dover in 1974 and was engaged in short-term teaching in the area. Mrs. Madrechesia was a member of the Delaware State Education Association. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Salvatore Madrechesia of Dover; two daughters, Roberta Rummel of Dover and Anita Morris of Freebert, Ariz.; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Walsh of Dover and Jacob Morris of Freebert. Ambruso Funeral Director Inc., Dover. --------------------------------------------------------------- * William Semonavick, Sr., 83 DOVER - William Semonavick, Sr. of Dover died Friday, June 27, 2003, in the Silver Lake Center, Dover. He was 83. Mr. Semonavick was born Aug. 19, 1919, in New York City, son of the late Wessil Semonavick and Anna Obromovich Semonavick. He received his master's degree in education from Salisbury State University and his bachelor of science degree in education from Delaware State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years in aircraft quality control. He served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of the NCO academy and retired as a senior master sergeant. Mr. Semonavick taught seventh grade in the Newark School District for 13 years, retiring in 1984. He was involved in the C.C. Camps, where he helped restore Fort Defiance in Tacoma, Wash. He lived in the Dover area for 46 years. Mr. Semonavick was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, was a life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, a life member of National Rifle Association, a life member of American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2, a life member of the Amateur Radio Club, and a member of the Delaware State Sportsman Association. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and received the Scoutmasters Order of the Arrow. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Semonavick; a son and daughter-in-law, William Jr. and Sherry Semonavick of Dover; a daughter, Marianne S. Jarrell of Magnolia; five grandchildren, Laura Faircloth and her husband, Douglas, Cindy Rogers, Courtney Semonavick, Dustin Semonavick, and Frank Myers and his wife, Laurie; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E.
