He was 68. Mr. Caggiano was born April 15, 1935, in Medford, son of Olga Short of Hingham and the late Joseph Caggiano. He attended Medford schools and was a 1952 graduate of Medford High School. He later received a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University in 1957 and a B.S. in electri-cal engineering, also from Northeastern in 1968. Mr. Caggiano retired as a project manager with GTE Government Systems in Needham (formerly Sylvania) in 1992 after more than 35 years of employment with the company. He was also a former Concord Little League coach and was involved as a recipient and supporter of the cardiac gene therapy program at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton. Mr. Caggiano was a member of the Society of Professional Engineers. A 25- year Concord resident, he was a longtime communicant of St. Bernard's Church, where he served the parish as a eucharistic minister and as teacher and director of the C.C.D. program. He was a graduate of the Masters Teachers C.C.D. program in Boston. He was preceded in death by his father; and his step-father, Thomas Short. In addition to his wife, Jacqueline M. (Stacey) Caggiano, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph J. Caggiano of Ayer, Mark F. and Karen Crawford Caggiano of Leonardtown, Md., and Mat-thew J. and Sandy Caggiano of Concord; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Dana Shorey of Peabody and Maryellen and Brian Carbaugh of Dover, Del.; his mother; a sister, Rita Taylor of Hingham; two brothers, Thomas Short of Waltham and Kenneth Short of Weymouth; four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Joseph Dee and Son Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., Concord Center. Services will be 9:15 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St., Acton. The family requests memorial contributions be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Mary Louise Carter, 97 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Mary Louise Carter of Chestertown died Sunday, June 1, 2003, in Kent '&;' Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. She was 97. Mrs. Carter was born March 18, 1906, daughter of the late Stewart and Bertha Vansant Edwards. She was raised and was active in the Rock Hall community. She was a member of Wesley Chapel Church, the Rock Hall Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, and helped start the hot lunch program in the Rock Hall Elementary School. Following the death of her husband, W. Franklin Carter, in 1963, she moved to Chestertown with her daughter. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Rodney. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Lou Taylor of Chestertown; a sister, Evelyn Fine of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Frank Rodney of New Port Richey, Fla., Melissa R. Finney of Salisbury, Kristina T. Parsons of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Sherry T. Craner of Bridgeton, N.J.; and five great- grandchildren. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Rock Hall. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Cornelius L. Hurd, 72 VIOLA - Cornelius L. Hurd of Viola died Sunday, June 1, 2003, in his home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. He was 72. Mr. Hurd was born Aug. 25, 1930, in Viola, where he lived on the family farm all of his life. He was the son of the Arthur and Anna Smith Hurd. He attended Viola and Felton schools. Mr. Hurd served his country proudly in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953 in the 82nd Airborne Division, as a parachutist, making 47 jumps. Because of his love for flying, he purchased his own airplane, a 1939 Aronka Chief. He worked as a me-chanic throughout his adult life, and later started his own construction company, Hurd's Construction Co. He then became an independent truck driver for Tilcon and Heartland Trucking, retiring at age 70 due to declining health. In his spare time he loved gardening and going out on the family boats clamming, crabbing and swim-ming near the Indian River Inlet. He also enjoyed rebuilding Allis-Chalmers tractors. Mr. Hurd will be re-membered as a hard worker and good provider. He worked from sunup to sundown. He was a loving and very kind person who would give you the shirt off of his back. He loved everybody and would always take care of other people before he took care of himself. If you needed something, he was there, and would see that you had want you needed. He also loved to spoil his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Veidin; and a granddaughter, Wanda Kay Walls-Wootten. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret E. Allen Hurd of Viola; three daughters and sons-in-laws, Sharon and Robert Givens of Felton, Patricia and Kenneth Walls of Harrington and Bonnie Berry and Carl Steels of Felton; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Johnny and Pamela Hurd, Roy Hurd and Sherry McGregor, all of Viola, and Roger and Phyllis Hurd of Harrington; two brothers, William Hurd and James W. Hurd, both of Viola; nine grandchildren, Kelly Johnson of Alaska, Vicki Givens, Brenda Walls, Samantha Jo and Valerie Hurd, all of Harrington, John Berry of Felton and Stephen, Rachael and Elizabeth (Beth) Hurd, all of Viola; and three great-grandchildren, Daniel Simpson and Dalton Johnson of Alaska and Taylor Givens of Harrington. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. --------------------------------------------------------------- * George Eddie Johnson, 82 SMYRNA - George Eddie Johnson of Smyrna died Sunday, June 1, 2003, in Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 82. Mr. Johnson was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Panama, Fla., son of the late Moses and Anna Johnson. He attended the public school system in Florida. In 1947, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. Mr. Johnson moved to Delaware, and on July 26, 1954, he was united in holy matrimony to Ernestine B. Scott. To this union six wonderful children were born. He had a zest for life and was always willing to help anyone he could, and had a word of encouragement to share with others. He had many interests, including fishing, deer hunting, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a tremendous loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He dearly cherished his family. Mr. Johnson was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for more than 20 years. He served on the usher board, the food committee and the Couples United For Christ. He loved his church and his pastors. In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by five sons and two daughters-in-law, George Johnson Jr., Eddie Johnson, David and Christine Baker, Gregory K. and Myong (Kim) Johnson and Leon F. John-son; four daughters and a son-in-law, Henrietta, Bonita and Gwen Johnson and Pamela T. and Timothy Williams; in-laws, Caselean Stribling, Shirley Stribling and James Stribling, Janice, and her husband, Richard Holmes Sr., Joyce, and her husband, Sam Bunkley; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his favorite nephew, Doug Jackson; a loving friend, brother and sister, Jonathan and Arlene Jeffcoat; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was 77. Mr. KeFauver was born May 23, 1926, in Bridgeville, son of the late Harry KeFauver Sr. and Dorothy Rose KeFauver. He was a World War II veteran. He was a member of Company A, 741st Tank Battalion of the U.S. Army. A retired farmer, Mr. KeFauver also raised chickens and remodeled homes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Agnes H. KeFauver, on Aug. 16, 2001; and a son, Melvin McKinley KeFauver Jr., in 1951. He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Joyce Germanos of Bridgeville; twin sons, Donald Lee KeFauver of Laurel and Ronald Lee KeFauver Sr. of Bridgeville; two sisters, Ida Mae Davis of Laurel and Pauline Sha-piro of Wilmington; five grandchildren, J. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery at Oak Grove, Seaford. --------------------------------------------------------------- * John Fletcher Price Jr., 87 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - John Fletcher Price Jr. of Chestertown died of heart failure Saturday, May 31, 2003, in Kent '&;' Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. He was 87. Mr. Price was born in Still Pond, son of the late John Fletcher Price Sr. and Cora Dority Price. He attended the Still Pond school. He farmed for 25 years in Kent County, then worked in road construction for Interstate Construction Co. for 16 years. For the past 18 years he was a landfill attendant for Kent County at the Nicholson Land Fill, Chestertown. Mr. Price as an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed yard sales. Mr. Price and his brother, Elmer, had one of the first commercial waterfowl guide services in Kent County. In addition to his brother, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Thelma Louise Price; a son and daugh-ter-in-law, John F. Price III and Ann Price of Chestertown; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan A. Price and Randy Price of Portsmouth, Va.; a brother, Elmer Price of Still Pond; two sisters, Florence Hague of Chestertown and Louise Dixon of Marydel; nine grandchildren, John F. Price IV, James T. Snow of Gumboro, formerly of East Berlin, Pa., died Sunday, June 1, 2003, in his home. He was 69. Mr. Snow was born in Wellesley, Mass., son of the late Herbert H. and Mabel Ames Snow. He served four year in the U.S. Navy. He retired after 20 years of service as a nuclear engineer at Three Mile Island, now known as General Public Utilities, in Middletown, Pa. Mr. Snow was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8896 in East Berlin. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Hoover Snow; two sons, Shaun Michael Snow at home and Thomas Snow of Brownsburg, Ind.; a daughter, Lisa Hupp of Burbank, Calif.; a sister, Norma Wales of Vermont; and two grandchildren, Piper Lee Snow and Hunter Hupp. Services and burial will be private. She was 80. Miss Walls was the daughter of the late Sadie Tuff Walls and Benjamin Johnson. She was crippled and could not walk or talk, and was confined to her wheelchair and hospital bed all her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Pearson, who took care of her most of her life, and Helen Maybrey, who had her at times through her life; and a brother, Harry Walls. She is survived by a sister, Annie Clough of Sudlersville, who helped out with her when she was small; six nieces who helped out with her through her life, Elizabeth Cook, Mable Mench, Mary Anna Redley, Bertha Hurtt, Ruth Ann Reece and Sadie Wooters; a nephew, John Maybrey of Hartly, Del., who helped lift her; many other nieces, nephews and cousins; and her caretaker, Mary Smith, who came every day for her personal care.
