Dardanelli, 80 DOVER - Frank A. Dardanelli of Dover died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 80. Mr. Dardanelli was born in New York, son of the late Girolomo and Vincenza Dardanelli. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II who had served in the Pacific and European theaters, including in the Normandy Invasion. He had worked as a chemist for many years with the Standard-Toch Co. in Staten Island, N.Y., and later with Reichhold Chemical, which caused his move to Dover in 1976. He retired from Reichhold Chemical in 1988. Mr. Dardanelli had been a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Dover, of the Knights of Columbus Council 4182, where he had served as a third-degree member, and of BPO Elks Lodge 1903, Dover. He also was a past longtime member of the American Legion Post of Staten Island, and also was a member of the Holy Name Society when living in Staten Island. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rose J. Casciano Dardanelli of Dover; six nieces and nephews; a grand-niece; and five grand-nephews. She attended school in Kent County; Mrs. Henry was employed by Vita Foods until her retirement. She loved cooking, watching soap operas and listening to gospel music. Her favorite song was "This Little Light of Mine." Mrs. Henry was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. In her early years, she sang with the Silver Chorus of Asbury. Hines of Rock Hall died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown, Md. He was 69. Mr. Hines was born April 22, 1934, in West Chester, Pa., son of the late James M. Jr. and Esther Burnett Hines. He was a graduate of Henderson High School in West Chester, class of 1954. In June 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1958. Upon his return he married Louise R. Miller in 1961; they were married for 27 years. Mr. Hines worked as a salesman in heavy trucking supplies with International Harvester Co., and later Rollins Leasing in Wilmington, Del. He then worked with Tolchester Marina, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports. Mr. Hines was a member of the Masonic Lodge in West Chester and the American Legion. He was a past member of Holy Trinity Church in West Chester. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Bobby and Jimmy "Bo" Hines; and three sisters, Jane Kemmer, Phyllis Hodgson and Louise Hines. He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey F. She was 83. Mrs. Hughes was born May 29, 1920, daughter of the late Arlie and Leuvenia Taylor. She received her education at Phyllis Wheatley School in Bridgeville. She was married to the late Clifford E. Hughes Sr. In this union, they were blessed with four children. Mrs. Hughes was an active member of Graham A.M.E. Church of Greenwood. She did domestic work for Ebe Reynolds and Thelma Schulze, both of Greenwood, and also worked at Delaney's Cannery Factory of Bridgeville. She retired from Neylan Brothers of Harrington and Dover. "Cain," as she was called by many, was known as "the young woman." She was a person who kept one laughing with funny sayings, and was always willing to give a helping hand. She had worked at Sisk Fulfillment in Federalsburg for more than 17 years. Mrs. Lewis enjoyed shopping and going out to dinner, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. He was 40. Mr. McCray was born Aug. 18, 1962, in Cambridge, son of Mary Ida (Cephas) McCray and the late Isaac Robert McCray. He was educated in the Dorchester County public schools, and graduated in 1981. He was joined in holy wedlock to Gloria A. Camper July 3, 1993. They resided in Maryland for the first few years, and later, made their home in Bridgeville, Del. Mr. McCray joined United Missionary Baptist Church in 1993 under the leadership of the Rev. Rawna Smith. After moving to Delaware, he moved his membership to the Way of Christ Evangelistic Ministries of Bridgeville under the leadership of the Rev. Milton Horsey Sr., pastor. Later, he returned home to United Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Andrew Tilghman Sr., pastor. In his walk with Christ, he was a faithful trustee and member of the many church ministries. He was 74. Mr. Miller was born in Millington, Md., son of the late Roland W. and Edith N. Judefind Miller. He was chairman of agronomy at the University of Maryland until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Miller was awarded scholarships to Washington College and the University of Maryland, College Park. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi-National Honor Society, elected to Sigma XI-Research Honorary. He also earned an honorary state farm degree in 1960, received for outstanding educational work in area soil testing and soil fertility. He was listed in America Men and Woman of Science, World's Who's Who in Science, Who's Who I the East, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Agriculture, and Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans. He was elected Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy in 1971, and also received Spokesman of the Year Award in Agriculture, 1975, presented by Chevron Chemical Co. and Farm Chemical Magazine. He was also elected Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America in 1976. He was presented an award by Potash and Phosphate Institute in appreciation of outstanding service to agriculture in 1976. He was presented a Certificate of Appreciation for Contributions to Delaware-Maryland Plant Food Association in 1978. He was appointed by Maryland Secretary of Agriculture to serve on Maryland Gasohol Study Commission in 1979, and was also appointed by the governor of Maryland to serve on the Sewage Sludge Management Commission in 1982. He was also awarded Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland for outstanding service and contributions in 1985. He was presented "Man of the Year" by Maryland Grain Producers Association for outstanding service to Maryland Agriculture in 1988. He was also awarded by the Northeastern Branch of the American Society of Agronomy a career service award for outstanding achievements and contributions to agronomy in 1989, and Maryland Turfgrass Association award in recognition of dedication, advancement and support of the turfgrass industry in 1993. He enjoyed taking cruises, farming and dancing. Mr. Miller was a member of Vansville Farmers Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Loran Judefind Miller, in 1994. He was 46. Mr. Ramos was born July 10, 1956, in Mercedes, Texas, son of the late Jose Ramos and Angelita DeLeon Ramos. He was educated in the Capital School District, Dover, and he later received his GED at Polytech High School in 1992. He continued his education at Polytech to receive his apprenticeship certificate. Mr. Ramos continued to strive toward his career-ladder position. He was a physical-plant maintenance mechanic II at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown. He truly enjoyed his job and always said that it was the best job he ever had. She was 69. Mrs. Truett moved to the Greensboro area in 1993 from Odenton, where she had owned and operated Nettie's Kitchen. She had worked for the IGA in Greensboro the past 10 years. Her hobbies included cooking, flowers, camping and listening to mountain music. Mrs. Truett was a member of American Legion Post 29 Ladies Auxiliary, Denton, and of the Eastern Shore Bluegrass Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winburn Shorter and Ida Mae Funk Shorter; two sons, Thomas Truelove and Raymond Truelove; two brothers, William Shorter and Thomas Shorter; and a sister, Tilda Hedge She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Richard Truett; two sons, John Truelove of Glen Burnie and Walter Truelove Sr. of Brooklyn Park; three stepsons, James Truett, William Truett and Richard Truett; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lorraine Chattin of Roanoke, Va., Christine McCauley of Glen Burnie, Mary Rollins of Laredo, Texas, and Oakey Yopp of Rocky Mount, Va.; and four brothers, Robert Shorter of Crownsville, John Shorter of Hagerstown, James Shorter of Salem, Va., and Walter Shorter of National City, Calif. Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, near Hurlock. She was 89. Mrs. Vernier was born Nov. 18, 1913, in Toledo, Ohio. She resided in Towson, Md. She had obtained a bachelors degree in philosophy while living in Ohio. She had been employed at Walden Books in Towson, briefly before retiring. Mrs. Vernier was a member of Maryland Presbyterian Church, Towson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Vernier, in 1989; a daughter, Sara Lynn Williams, in September 2002; and a son, Robert Vernier. She is survived by a son-in-law, Roger Williams of Felton; five grandchildren, Patrik Williams, and his wife, Melissa, Rebecca Williams, Elizabeth Martin, and her husband, Silvio, Andrew Williams and Shawn Vernier; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 425 N. Du Pont Highway, Dover.
