Baker FEDERALSBURG - Mary Elizabeth Sommers Baker, 69, of Federalsburg died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. She was born Nov. 7, 1933 at Federalsburg the daughter of the late William C. Summers and Katherine Ellen Currey. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul F. Hubble and her second husband, Lynwood Baker. She was a graduate of Federalsburg High School. She was an inspector for Allen Foods in Cordova for over 25 years. She was also previously employed at the Salisbury Mall and Tastee Freeze. Mrs.Baker is survived by a son, Rodney Hubble of Hurlock; a brother, Billy "Bill" Summers of Laurel; a sister, Joyce Willoughby of Seaford; two grandchildren; an aunt, Hattie Lee of Federalsburg; a sister-in-law, Andy Summers of Federalsburg, and a brother-in-law, John Hitch of Seaford. Besides her husbands she was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hitch, and a brother, Charles Sommers. Stafford EASTON - Cecelia Keene Stafford, 77, died Monday Jan. 27, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. Born Oct. 27, 1925 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Jennings Mace and Mary Mildred Mills Keene. After graduating from Cambridge High School in 1941 she began a lifelong career as a bookkeeper, working for the Talbot County Board of Education, Noble Ford, Shannahan and Wrightson, Hallowell Chevrolet and most recently the Department of Agriculture and 1st Compute. Her first husband, Harry F. Sullivan, died September 1973. Her second husband, Joseph Lee Stafford whom she married in 1965, died Aug. 21, 1993. Mrs. Stafford is survived by a daughter, Nancy Maria Meyer of Newark, Del.; a son, John Dudley Sullivan and his wife, Susan of St. Michaels; two sisters, Eleanor Voshell and her husband, Lee of Marydel and Susan C. She was born Sept. 19, 1929 in Dorchester County, the daughter of the late Hattie E. Shufelt Woodward and Mayo Stewart Woodward. Mrs. McConnell was a Federalsburg High School graduate Class of 1946 and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the former Eastern Shore State Hospital in Cambridge and Memorial Hospital at Easton. She had owned and operated the floral shop known as the Ye Old Post Shop in Preston. Mrs. McConnell was a Preston Community Club member and a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Preston. She is survived by her husband, Robert E. McConnell; four children, Connie Lyden Sites and her husband, Douglas, of Seaford, Del., William E. Lyden Jr. and his wife, Bonnie of Federalsburg, Suzanne Lyden Fluharty and her husband, Mickey of Federalsburg and Jill Lyden Phelps and her husband, Jim of Preston; seven grandchildren: Lori L. Mrs. Hernandez was born on May 10, 1936, in Guanajuato, Mexico, the daughter of Candito Rodriguez and Martha (Mora) Rodriguez. Mrs. Hernandez was a homemaker by trade and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Hernandez. Survivors include: six sons, Jose, Marcelino, Manuel, Regugio, Antonio and Jesus Hernandez, all of Okeechobee; four daughters, Juana Hernandez of Mexico, Reyna Hernandez of Arizona, Anita Hernandez of Snowhill, N.C. and Josefina Vega of Okeechobee; 39 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren also survive her. Baladez Rebecca G. Baladez, age 64, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. Mrs. Baladez was born on July 24, 1938, in Pharr, Texas, the daughter of Joe and Margarita (Pena) Garcia. Mrs. Baladez was a homemaker by trade and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Huss Jr., 48 LONG NECK - Tommy R. Huss Jr. of Long Neck and formerly of Lincolnton, N.C., died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in Smyrna from injuries sustained in a traffic accident. He was 48. Mr. Huss was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed as a truck driver for Thoro-Good Concrete Co., Millsboro. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda B. Huss; a son, Joshua Brandon Huss of Millsboro; a daughter, Ashley Rae Huss of the family home; his parents, Tommy R. and Beverly Huss of North Carolina; a brother, Frank Huss of North Carolina; two sisters, Lynn Milton and Melissa Humphries, both of North Carolina; and two granddaughters, Kayla Maree and Emma Belle. Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Special Olympics, University of Delaware, Newark, DE 19716-1901. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Wayne Everett Jackl, 57 MILLINGTON, Md. - Wayne Everett Jackl of Millington died of cancer Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 57. Mr. Jackl was born Sept. 3, 1945, in Menominee, Mich., son of Mary S. Jackl Roberts of Menominee and the late Andrew M. Jackl. He received his education in the Catholic and public schools of Menominee and received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1967 and a master's degree in library science from the University of Maryland in 1971. After pursuing a career in teaching, librarianship, counseling and business, he and his wife established Head of Chester Antiques, Millington. He enjoyed that business until his death. Mr. Jackl served his community through membership on several boards of directors, including Infinity Recycling Inc. He served the town of Millington on the Environmental Committee of the Comprehensive Planning Commission and on the Planning and Zoning Commission. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Ruth; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew W. and Kathy Jackl of Clayton, N.C.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sylvia H. and Henry Bare of Apex, N.C., and Evelyn, a college student, of the family home; his stepfather, Wesley Roberts of Menominee; a brother, Jeffrey K. Jackl of Oakland, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Drew and Sarah Jackl and Deanna and Wyatt Bare, all of North Carolina. She was 4. Jih'nae was the daughter of Tawanda and Kunta Stanley. She attended West Salisbury Elementary School and the Eden Head Start program. She was a little ballerina. She attended Dance Unlimited and was a ballet student at D'ann Dance Studios. She had many friends and was extremely outgoing, and a very intelligent and bright little girl. She received nothing but good comments and grades from both schools. She was a leader and a helper and had a hunger for knowledge. She wanted to know everything. She was one of the top students at both of her schools. Jih'nae loved everything Barbie. She also loved clothes and had to have shoes to match her outfits. She was sometimes referred to as a "little diva". She was very loving and always wanted to give everyone hugs. She loved to color, write, pick on her brother and play with her baby sister. Jih'nae was a very spoiled little girl who got everything she wanted. Her favorite color was purple. She was a happy and loving little girl. She couldn't wait to be a teenager so that she could be a cheerleader. She was truly loved and adored by everyone with whom she came in contact. She was preceded in death by two grandmothers, Inez Jones and Almira Bolden; a great-great-grandmother, Flossie Roberts Davis; and an uncle, Dondre Jones. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Johnny Kane; a sister, A'myri Stanley; her grandparents, Sandra Jolley, Ernest Pinkey, Gary Butler, Genevera Demby, Carroll and Judith Jolley, Emerson and Sidney Payton, Carlton Stanley and Connie Thomas; her great-grandparents, Fredrick Jones Sr., Mable Butler, Helen B. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home. --------------------------------------------------------------- * George Albert Metz Jr., 63 REHOBOTH BEACH - George Albert Metz Jr. of Rehoboth Beach died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at the Genesis ElderCare Center, Salisbury, Md., where he spent the last 21/2 years. He was 63. Mr. Metz was born in Lincoln, son of George Albert Metz Sr. and Ruth Edmondson Metz. He was a graduate of Milford High School and attended the University of Delaware. He worked for his family poultry business until 1965, at which time he moved to Rehoboth Beach. He then owned and managed the Sea-Esta Motels and was active in the business until 1986. Mr. Metz enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and photography. He will be sadly missed by many. In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Carolyn Richardson Metz; his children, George Albert Metz III of Rehoboth Beach and Julienne Metz Reid of Garner, N.C.; three grandchildren; a sister, Sue Spencer of Missouri; and a brother, Guy Metz of Michigan. She was 96. Mrs. Shafer was born Sept. 8, 1906, in Quaker Neck, daughter of the late William R. and Alverda "Hadaway" Startt. She was raised in Quaker Neck and then moved to Baltimore, where she married her late husband, Lester D. Shafer, in 1926. Mrs. Shafer was very knowledgeable in current events and enjoyed keeping up with everything from the stock market to overseas affairs. She was preceded in death by a brother, William R. Startt Jr.; and a sister, Margaret Becker. She survived by two daughters, Jeanne S. Jackson of Frederick and Gloria S. King of Lothian; and six grandchildren. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where friends may call one hour earlier. Suozzi, 78 BETHANY BEACH - Dr. Joseph J. Suozzi of Bethany Beach and formerly of Convent Station, N.J., died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, of complications from surgery at Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C. Dr. Suozzi was a retired director of the Electronics Power Systems Laboratory at AT&T Bell Laboratories. Dr. Suozzi was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Angeline Suozzi; five daughters, Patricia Suozzi, Donna Tanguay, Gina Suozzi, Veronica Suozzi and Paula Suozzi; six grandchildren, Devin and Callan Suozzi-Rearic, Max and Isabel Haber, Dean Suozzi-Auberry and Dorothea West; and a brother and sister-in-law, Mike Suozzi and Rose Buffa.
