He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a fireman for Bethlehem Steel for 29 1/2 years, retiring in 1981. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Parker Anderson. Burial was private. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Banning, Harry C. Died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at age 87, at Heritage at Milford. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe from March 1942 until November 1945. He owned and operated the Banning Esso station, Bridgeville, for many years, retiring in 1984. Survived by his wife of 17 years, Dorothy Rust Banning. Burial was in Bridgeville Cemetery. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Blann, Anthony Leo ‘Andy’ Sr. Died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at age 56, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1971, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal. He worked at Tidewater Building and Supply, Easton Shell for 15 years and Gede Supply. Survived by his wife, Deborah Marie Masten Blann. Locally survived by a child, Dale Ostermann of Felton. She was a homemaker, and worked for a short time making dresses at the Harrington Dress Factory. Died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at age 83, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was a property manager for Campus Associates. Burial was in Carey Cemetery, Frankford. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Freiman, Emanuel ‘Manny’ Died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, and retired as a master sergeant at Dover Air Force Base in 1967 after 27 years of service. Survived by his wife, Marie “Dolly”. Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Hitchens, Bradford Burdette Died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at age 77, in his brother’s home in Elkton, Md. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a florist, greenhouse operator and driver for Scott Nurseries and Blue Hen Florists for 45 years, retiring in 1991. Locally survived by a nephew, Ronald Blessing of Felton. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Jarman, Marie Elizabeth Died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at age 87, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She and her husband owned and operated a milling and broiler business in the Smyrna area for many years. She lived recently at Westminster Village in Dover. Locally survived by a son, Donald Jarman Sr. and a daughter, Mary Ann Larrimore, both of Felton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Wesleyan Methodist Church, West Commerce Street, Smyrna. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant, after serving 30 years. He worked with the Elizabeth W. Murphey School in Dover as a food provider. Survived by his wife of 26 years, Brenda J. LeFurgey. Services will be held at noon Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington. Jr. Died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at age 50, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was a driver for David C. Harrison Post 14 American Legion ambulance service. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in St. Polycarp Roman Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier.
