Died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at age 65, in his home. He worked as an insurance salesman for more than 42 years, was a member of various surf-fishing organizations, and was a firefighter for more than four decades. Burial was the in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Glen Clark Funeral services for Glen Clark, 83, of Hartly were held Friday, Feb. 14, at the Greater Life Christian Church, Star Hill. Mr. Clark died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, in his home. Mr. Clark was born Nov. 6, 1919, son of the late George and Lida Clark. He was a veteran of World War II and honorably discharged in 1946. After his discharge, he began his career in civil service at the Brainbridge Naval Base, Port Deposit, Md., later transferring to Dover Air Force Base. He retired from civil service in 1985 after 33 years of service. Mr. Clark enjoyed sports, travel, farming, and spending time with family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ida Mindora Clark; three brothers, James, Thomas and George; and five sisters, Estella, Gladys, Agnes, Mae and Anna. He is survived by five sons, Glen Clark of Wilmington, Raymond Clark of Brooklyn, N.Y., Larry Clark of Hartly, Donald Clark of Newark and Terry Clark of Newark, and four daughters, Erma Boyce of Long Island, N.Y., Estina Benson of Hartly, Agnes Lewis of Milford and Carrie Clark of Hartly. Mr. Gowens died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Hospital, Milford. Mr. Gowens was born April 16, 1970, in Dover, son of Anderson “Andy” and Joyce Gowens. Burial was private. --------------------------------------------------------------- * John Edward Green, 47, of Bowers Beach, died at his home Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 25, 1955 in Wilmington, son of Ralph Green of Felton and Mary Furches of Bowers Beach. He was a veteran of both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army, and had worked as school bus driver for New Castle and Kent county schools before retiring in September due to illness. Mr. Green loved fishing, Little League baseball, driving, and taking day trips. He is survived by Diane Green, his wife of 29 years; a son, Matthew Green, of Bowers Beach, a son and daughter-in-law, John and Marsha Green, of Lancaster, Pa., and a daughter, Amber Green, of Bowers Beach. Groff of Houston, formerly of East Orange and Rochelle Park, N.J., were held Wednesday, Feb. 19, in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Harrington. Mrs. Groff died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Groff, who was known as “Ronnie,” was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late R. Nelson and Lana Carr Bornemann. She grew up in East Orange, graduating from Orange High School. She attended college and graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia, Fredericksburg, Va. Mrs. Groff began her career as an editor at Oxford University Press in New York City in 1949 and remained there until 1956. She was later a remedial reading teacher in New Jersey from 1968 until 1971 and then an editor at the Hayden Book Company, also in New Jersey, from 1972 until 1987. She was a very active member of St. Agnes Episcopal Church in East Orange, and later St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rochelle Park, parishes where her husband served as rector. After their move to Delaware, she was a parishioner at Christ Church in Milford, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Harrington and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Milton. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, the Rev. Addison K. Groff; two sons, David Groff of New York City, and Jonathan Groff of Los Angeles; a daughter-in-law, Martha Blakeley Chowning; a son-in-law, Clay Williams; and two grandchildren, Medora and Edwin Groff. She was a very loving sister and aunt to her family. Ms. Heideck also was loved by all her friends in Luther Towers in Dover and will be greatly missed. Ms. Magee was born July 14, 1956, in Easton, Md., daughter of Eugene Worden and Mildred Russell Magee of Hurlock. She graduated from Colonel Richardson High School in 1974, and received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Delaware State University. Her early Christian life began at Mount Calvary United Methodist Church in Preston, Md. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her devoted son, Brandon Magee-Milbourne of Dover; her sister, Eugenia Magee of Upper Marlboro, Md.; 13 aunts, 10 uncles, a great-aunt, and a host of other relatives and friends. She retired in the late 1980s from the Delaware Corporate Tax Office after 21 years of service. She loved and lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a caregiver for everyone. She collected stuffed animals, especially teddy bears and Hummels, enjoyed reading and loved dogs. Mrs. Moore was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover. Mrs. Morris died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. Mrs. Morris was born March 18, 1929, in Cheswold, daughter of the late Joseph L. and Beatrice A. Morgan Reed. She lived all her life in the Cheswold area. Mrs. Morris worked for the Capital School District as a library aide at Towne Point Elementary School and in the music department at Fairview Elementary School. Mrs. Morris will be most remembered for her vibrant, magnetic personality, her ever-smiling and kind disposition and her devoted patriotism. She also was a very energetic person who participated in many functions and events, including the Nanticoke-Lenni Lenape powwows, where she danced; tap-dancing at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, where she held the title of the second Ms. Mature of Dover, and the Senior Olympics, where she was a torchbearer. She loved to take part in Old Dover Days as a tour guide and traveling and helping with the family band, the Novels, as well as another band, the Starlighters. She also attended many other functions and events. Most memorable of the events and treasures of her life included the $100 bill given her by Richard Simmons while he was in Dover and the tie clip handed to her late husband by former President George H.W. Bush. She also loved Philadelphia sports, shopping, TV, and taking pictures of events and her family. She was a Richard Petty fan and enjoyed Little League baseball games. She will be missed by many and will be remembered as a special person who dearly loved everyone, especially her children and their families, as well as her dog, Billy. Mrs. Morris was a member of Immanuel Union United Methodist Church, Cheswold; the Nanticoke-Lenni Lenape Tribe; the Modern Maturity Center; the Steppin’ Seniors at the Modern Maturity Center; the Retired Senior Volunteer Program; the Read-A-Loud Program at the hospital; and the Special Olympics. She also was a Mixed League and Ladies League member at the Dover Bowl. In addition to her parents, her beloved husband William Morris preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by three children, the spouses of two and the fiancée of one, Anita Y. and Robert C. Wright Jr., Janice A. and William Anthony Durham and Bruce K. Morris and Trudy Davis, all of Dover, and an adopted daughter, Loretta Gourley, and Mrs. Gourley’s husband, Dennis, of Dover. Mrs. Morris is also survived by four grandchildren and the spouses of two, Troy Shane Wright, William Eric and Janice Phillips Wright and Sonja B. Durham Tunnell and Al Tunnell, all of Dover, and Bruce Kenneth Morris II of Wilmington; an adopted grandchild, Yvonne L. Gourley of Dover, and two step grandchildren, Stanley J. Roland “Pop” Seward, 81, of Marydel, Md. were held Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro. Mr. Seward died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chestertown. Mr. Seward was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Barclay, Md., son of the late Clarence Dewey and Mary Elizabeth Holden Seward. He was a lifetime resident of the area. He attended school in Barclay. Mr. Seward worked as a carpenter and farmer, and then became a custodian for the Queen Anne's County School System. He loved his garden and his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Urban Seward, in 1990; and three sisters, Bessie Winborne, Dorothy Seward and Betty Lowe. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia DiRocco, and Ms. DiRocco's companion, Jerry Adams, and Sandra and Les Price, all of Marydel, and Barbara and Jackie Walls of Henderson; and five sisters, Alice McKinney and Christine Hickman, both of Barclay, Pearl Jarrell of Price Station, Nellie Jarr of Sudlersville and Ruth Foxx of Templeville. Sharpe, 79, of Frederica, were held Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Price Funeral Home, Harrington. Mrs. Sharpe died of heart failure Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in her daughter’s home. Mrs. Sharpe was born in Richardson Park. Early in her life, she spent five years as a preacher at the Small Woods Church in Wilmington, and then took time off to raise her family. She re-entered the workforce as a nurse’s aide, working for VNA and then in private duty until her retirement in 1986. She was a very caring and loving person, always wanting to help her family and friends. Mrs. Sharpe was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Sharpe Sr., in 1989, a son, John W. Sharpe, in 1991, and a brother, William Seney. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret A. Cornwell of Milford; five sons, George Sharpe Jr. of Wilmington, James Sharpe of Palm Springs, Calif., William Sharpe of Milford, and Aaron and Adrian Sharpe, both of Frederica. She was born July 31, 1914, in Crisfield, Md., one of 12 children, daughter of the late Elijah and Ella Bennett Bethard. While in Delaware, she worked for Bethard’s Grocery Store in Dover and later for the Woolco Department Store. Mrs. Sterling was a member of Capitol Baptist Church, Dover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon “Dick” Sterling Jr. in 1961.
