Ammon, 81 MILTON - Alice L. Ammon of Milton, formerly of Baltimore and Rehoboth Beach, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. She was 81. Before retirement, Mrs. Ammon was the owner of Martin's Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach, a secretary for 17 years at the DuPont Co. in Wilmington and a secretary for the University of Delaware's College of Marine Studies. She was a talented artist, as well. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin G. Ammon, in 1984. She is survived by a son, Jeffrey B. Ammon of Frankford, and a grandson, Christopher B. Ammon. Archer of Laurel died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in her home. She was 75. Mrs. Archer was born in Raton, Colfax County, N.M., daughter of the late Raymond and Kathleen Archer. She traveled the world and lived life to the fullest. She was a doll maker, a needlepoint teacher and an antique dealer. She loved antiques and specialized in dolls and miniatures. She is survived by a grandson, Edward Wagner of Seaford. Funeral services and burial will be private. Arrangements by Cranston Funeral Home, Seaford. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Willie Mae Smith Berryhill, 96 THOMASTON, Ga. - Willie Mae Smith Berryhill of Thomaston died Thursday, April 3, 2003, in Riverside Nursing Care Center. She was 96. Mrs. Berryhill was born in Beckley County, Ga. She was retired from B.F. Goodrich Mill where she worked for more than 34 years as a spinner. Mrs. Berryhill was a member of Clarks Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvan Berryhill. She is survived by two sons, J.B. (Celia) Berryhill of Thomaston, Ga. and William Berryhill of Camden, Del.; a brother, Hewey Smith of Thomaston, Ga.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Capital Baptist Church, Kesserling Drive, Dover, DE 19901. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Joanne Dees Bradley, 68 MILFORD - Joanne Dees Bradley of Milford died, after a fearless battle with cancer, Thursday, April 3, 2003, in her home, surrounded by her family. She was 68. Mrs. Bradley was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Jim and Mary Dees. She grew up and made her home in Milford. Mrs. Bradley worked for several years in retail at Emanuel's Dress Shop in Milford and Hess Apparel in Dover, and eventually retired from Country Craft Shop in Milford. Her faith in God and love of family were her passion and life. She loved to garden and cherished her home, her friends and her pets. She delighted in making hand-painted crafts and flower arrangements for others. She also loved to travel and enjoyed experiencing new and different places. Her travels took her as far north as Alaska and Canada, as far east as Europe and as far west as Hawaii, and included many excursions on the east coast and a cross-country trip with her husband and children. Through the years, Mrs. Bradley served in various polling positions in Sussex County for primary and general elections, serving as a judge, inspector and poll worker. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, William S. "Bill" Bradley; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Greg Ellingsworth, Cynthia and Michael Love and Lori Ann Bradley, youngest daughter and neighbor, all of Milford; a son and daughter-in-law, William Michael and Carol Bradley of Milford; seven grandchildren and the respective spouses of two, Jason and Heather Ellingsworth of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., Laurie and Chris Cale of Fairbanks, Alaska, Billy Bradley, serving with the U.S. Army in Saudi Arabia, Heather Bradley of Camden and Christopher Love, Jennifer Love and Victoria Love, all of Milford; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Ellingsworth and Tristan Ellingsworth; a brother and sister-in-law, James "Jimmy" and Carol Dees of Hampton, Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Robert "Bob" Andrews of Cary, N.C.; nine nieces and nephews; her stepmother, Verna Dees of Florida; and many family members on the Bradley side residing in the Andrewsville-Harrington area. She was 78. Mrs. Calloway was born in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth "Mack" Smith. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed doing crafts and flowers. She also loved spending time with her family whom she loved very much. Mrs. Calloway was a member of Eagles Nest Fellowship Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Kenny and Evadane Smith; three sons, James Alfred Calloway, Kenneth Jay Calloway and Ronnie Irving Calloway; and a daughter, Marie Elizabeth Holloway. She is survived by her husband, William James Calloway; four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ronnie Ward of Georgetown, Jane and Mike Parker of Seaford, Millie and Sidney Hudson of Georgetown and Debi and Scott Ward of Laurel; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Linda Calloway of Georgetown; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Davis of Newark died after a brief battle with cancer Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Christiana Hospital. He was 45. Mr. Davis had recently retired after more than 20 years as a partner of Doc's Meat Market in Hockessin. He enjoyed fishing, travel and cooking. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Davis, in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Darlene Slaughter; his mother and stepfather, Norma D. and Lawrence Conlin of Wilmington; his brothers and sister, George F. Newberry-Davis and his wife Jan of Lawton, Okla., Carol Mulford and her husband, Leonard of Wilmington, Mark E. Davis of Wilmington and John B. He was 45. Mr. Dever was born in Havertown, Pa., son of James Dever of Havertown and the late Claire (Lewis) Dever. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed as a master auto technician by Wright's Chrysler, Seaford. Mr. Dever was an avid attender of auctions, and was a marksman at pistol and rifle shooting. He was very devoted to his family, and his grandchildren were his hobby. He will be loved and missed dearly by all of his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Morris) Dever; a daughter, Suzanne Morris of Dagsboro; a son, Richard LaFontano of Dagsboro; a brother, Sean Michael Dever of Havertown; three grand-children, Cheyenne Katz and Danny Katz, both of Dagsboro, and Isaiah Johnson of Greenwood; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was 73. Mrs. Fields was born in Easley, S.C., daughter of the Deome and Lela Mae Blackwell Upton. She was a nurse's aide in hospitals, nursing homes and private duty in New Jersey retiring in 1989. Mrs. Fields attended the Pilgrims Ministry of Deliverance Church, near Georgetown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Bray. She is survived by a son, Eddie Watt Jr. of Asbury, N.J.; a daughter, Mary Ann Earl of Millsboro; two brothers, Ben Harley of New York City and Quincy Harley of Durham, N.C.; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shirley and Henry Crump, and Jessie and Henry Ward, all of New York City, Martha Harley of Columbia, S.C., and Sarah Collins of Miami, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren, and a dear devoted friend of many years, Michael Ross of Millsboro. She was 74. Mrs. Horton was born March 24, 1929 in Pickens County, Ala., daughter of the late Mattie and Glover Colvin. She loved to travel and had been around the world. She was a loving mom and best friend. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Fifine and Pete Brightman of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Mattie Boga, Berniece Morton and Roxie Brown; two brothers, Edward Colvin and Ellis Colvin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Ruth Coen Hurley, 79 REHOBOTH BEACH - Ruth Coen Hurley of Rehoboth Beach died Thursday, April 3, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 79. Mrs. Hurley was born in Orange, N.J, and resided in Rehoboth Beach and Milford since 1951. She graduated from Orange High School in 1941, followed by Drake Secretarial College and the Academy of Arts, both in New Jersey. She received a degree in architectural engineering from Delaware Technical '&;' Community College in Georgetown in 1973. Mrs. Hurley had a pilot's license and flew small planes. She was also a marksman with the Civil Air Patrol Squadron and a Restricted Radio Telephone Operator. She worked in Rehoboth Beach at the Chamber of Commerce, Anderson- Stokes, Inc. and the Stuart Kingston Galleries. She was also the building inspector for the City of Rehoboth Beach. She was loved by many for her caring and gentle manner. She loved to read, draw and paint, often at the Rehoboth Art League. She was a wife and mother. Mrs. Hurley belonged to St. Edmond's Catholic Church and volunteered many services through the years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Edward J. Hurley. She is survived by a daughter, Peggi Hurley of Rehoboth Beach; four sons, Michael Hurley of Clarksville, Stephen Hurley of Rehoboth Beach, James Hurley of Plantation, Fla., and John Hurley of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, and more kids than can be named from Rehoboth Beach, especially the Schoolvue neighborhood, who thought of her as "mom." He was 67. Mr. Rohlman was born in Jasper, Ind., son of the late Gerhard and Mary Rohlman. He was raised in Indianapolis. At a young age, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1952 to 1958, including fighting in the Korean War until 1953. Mr. Rohlman was retired from work as a truck driver. He moved to Delaware in 1970, where he married and had 2 children. He loved to go fishing and bowling and just being outdoors. He will be greatly missed by his children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his female companion of two years, Dolly Jenkins; and an older brother, Richard Rohlman. He is survived by a son, William J. Rohlman of Millsboro; a daughter, Tamara N. Rohlman of Milton, who cared for him in his last few months; a grandson, Dyllon J. Norwood of Milton, who loved his "Pop Pop Jim" dearly; two sisters, Mary Ella Holobinko of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Pattie Tutton of Pinetop, Ariz.; and two brothers, Harry Rohlman of Mooresville, Ind., and Larry Rohlman of Indiana. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South, Millsboro.
