Caban, 45 DOVER - Blanca I. Caban, of Dover, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 45. Mrs. Caban was barn Oct. 1, 1937, in Puerto Rico. She owned and operated LaFamilia Pizza in Dover until her disability in 2001, when she sold her business. Mrs. Caban was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Dover. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Milagros Maria Antongiorgi in 1996. She is survived by her mother, Josephine Roman, and her stepfather, Ismael Roman, both of Orlando, Fla.; her father, Felix Betancourt of Puerto Rico; a son, Ismael M. Caban of Dover; two daughters, Josephine Ann Caban and Margarita Valle, both of Dover; a brother, Juan Betancourt of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Staats of Dover; grandchildren Mallarie Klooster of Dover and Kevon (Chiripa) Hayslett; a godson, Christian Martinez, of Dover; a niece, Erica Betancourt, and a nephew, Matthew Rios, both of Brooklyn, N.Y. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Charles Southwick Davidson, 92 SEAFORD - Charles Southwick Davidson, of Seaford, died of heart failure Monday, March 31, 2003, in Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home, Millsboro. He was 92. Mr. Davidson was born in New Castle, son of the late Howard and Sarah Craig Davidson. He was a state agent for the Home Fire and Casualty Insurance Co. for 39 years, working in Delaware, Georgia and Virginia. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1933, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Mr. Davidson was also an avid gardener and fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen Venable Davidson; a daughter and son-in-law, Noel D. and Steve Boraski, of Richmond, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, C. Bruce and Mary Jane Davidson, of Roanoke, Va.; and two grandsons, Derek D. Klock and Michael S. Boraski. Dickerson, 73 MARDELA SPRINGS, Md. - Richard H. Dickerson of Mardela Springs died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a three year-battle with myelodysplastic syndrome. He was 73. Mr. Dickerson was born in Sharptown, son of the late Minus Henry and Carrie Hastings Dickerson. He was a graduate of Mardela High School in 1947. Mr. Dickerson served in the U.S Army, serving some time in Germany. He joined E.I. DuPont Co. in Seaford, Del., in 1948, retiring in April of 1985. Mr. Dickerson enjoyed playing softball in the DuPont League in Seaford and the Wicomico County Men's League and coached a Sharptown team for a couple of years. He also enjoyed gardening and life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen and Milton Dickerson; and three sisters, Myrtle Solloway, Mary Hitchens and Katherine Rhodes. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Ellen Dickerson, of Delmar; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and James Lee Goslee, of Sharptown, and Teresa Dickerson, of Mardela Springs; five grandchildren, Julie and Steven Dickerson, of Delmar, and Travis, Vince and Amanda Goslee of Sharptown; a godson, David M. Adkins, of Sharptown; three sisters, Martha Bryan, Grace Beiley and Ruth Murray; and several nieces and nephews. Gears, 82 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Bertha V. Gears, of Chestertown, died April 1, 2003, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. She was 82. Mrs. Gears was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Rock Hall, daughter of the late Harry and Annie (nee Gadd) Carter. After her marriage in 1945 she moved to Chestertown, working for the Defense Plant and Vita Foods. Her greatest enjoyment came from baby-sitting children for the past 40 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Franklin, Harry and Ervin Carter; and two sisters, Leona Bennett and Thelma Taylor. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Perry Gears; devoted friends Dorene Larrimore and Mary Ellen Unruh and their families, all of Chestertown; a niece, Betty Lou Taylor; and four godchildren, Bill Sutton, Faron Taylor, Gail Brannock and Laura Reardon. Lyle, of Denton, formerly of Silver Spring and Annapolis, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in Caroline Nursing Home, Denton. She was 91. Mrs. Lyle was born in Golconda, Nev., daughter of the late Stewart Gustav Mollin and Hazel Stillman Mollin. She had lived in Denton since 1998, coming from Silver Spring. For many years, she lived in the Annapolis area, where she served as hostess at the Naval Academy Alumni House. Mrs. Lyle was an accomplished artist and a member of the Maryland Federation of Art. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, U.S. Navy Capt. William W. Brown, who died in Annapolis in 1957 while commanding the U.S. Naval Engineering Experiment Station; her second husband, George A. Lyle, who had been a mathematics professor at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, in 1989; and a sister, Elizabeth Collins. She is survived by two sons, William W. Brown Jr. of Lewes, Del., and Michael G. Brown, of Cambridge; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services and burial will be private. McGinnis, 93 WYOMING - Herman O. McGinnis, of Wyoming, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Silver Lake Center, Dover. He was 93. Mr. McGinnis was born Sept. 15, 1909, in Wyoming, son of the late Harry and Hilda (Zuelke) McGinnis. He was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School. Mr. McGinnis worked at Playtex Corp., for the Ironworkers Union Local 451, at Carl King Inc. and at General Foods, Kraft Division. His hobbies were traveling, camping and ceramics. Mr. McGinnis was an original member since 1927 of Kent County 4-H Links Club, a member of Natural Campers and Hikers Association New Jersey Chapter, a member of Kentucky Colonels and a member of Woodside Diners Club. He was past president of CB Radio Club, a past member of the Camden-Wyoming Fire Co., and past president of Natural Campers and Hikers Association, Delaware Chapter (Bald Eagles). In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Sarah McGinnis, on March 15, 1988. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles H. and Ruth Anne McGinnis, of Felton; a sister, Mary Thomas, of Marydel; a granddaughter and her husband, Sandra E. and Ronald Remus, of Milford; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Joshua Remus; and a wonderful friend, Doris Blake. Box 45, Woodside, DE 19980. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Margret Lucy Redmon, 90 SALAMANCA, N.Y. - Margret Lucy Redmon, of Salamanca, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Harrington, Del., died Monday, March 31, 2003, in the Waters of Salamanca Nursing Home, Salamanca. She was 90. Mrs. Redmon was born in Harrington, daughter of the late George and Mary (Hopkins) Hanson. At the age of 3 years, Mrs. Redmon went to live with and was raised by Nellie and Lewis Jones after the death of her mother. She graduated from Harrington High School and then continued on to receive her bachelor of science degree in education. She worked as a second-grade teacher in the Harrington School District for 30 years, retiring in the 1960s. Mrs. Redmon was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrington, and was a charter member and served as the first president of the C.K.R.T. Post 7, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Andrew Jerread, in 1963; and her second husband, George Redmon, in 1997; a son, Charles L. Jerread in September 2002; and a brother, Fred Hanson. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George H. and Ruby Jerread, of Salamanca; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and her close friends with whom she grew up, Jeannette Holloway, of Harrington, and her daughter, Janice Welch, of Rehoboth Beach. Taylor Sr., of Millsboro, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in his home. He was 59. Mr. Taylor was born in Snow Hill, Md., son of Maisie Taylor Sturgis Collins, of Snow Hill, and the late Reese Sturgis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Taylor worked at the Indian River power plant, near Dagsboro, for 30 years, retiring in 2002. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae Irvin Taylor, in 1989. He is survived by a son, Andrew C. Tripp, of Dover, died of natural causes Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington. He was 74. Mr. Tripp was born Dec. 7, 1928, in Henderson, Md., son of the late Edward and Nettie Kemp Tripp He was a 50-year resident of the Dover area. He retired from Playtex after 41 years. Mr. Tripp enjoyed fishing and hunting, and loved his rabbit dogs and coon dogs. He also enjoyed bluegrass and gospel music. He raced in local pony clubs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frederick Tripp, LeRoy Tripp and Albert Tripp. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Tripp, whom he married Sept. 13, 1947; two sons, Edward Tripp Jr., of Woodside, and William Edward Tripp, of Dover; a daughter, Sharon Tripp Jester, of Dover; seven grandchildren, Heidi Pearson, Heather Lappley, Eddie Tripp III, Angel Tripp, Stephanie Jester, Aaron Jester and Tommy Jester; and seven great-grandchildren.
