Baynum, 75 HARBESON - Lela L. Baynum of Harbeson died Thursday, April 17, 2003, in Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care, Newark, from injuries received in a traffic accident. She was 75. Mrs. Baynum was born in Fairmount, between Georgetown and Angola, daughter of the late Alfred McIlvaine and Eliza Stockley Prettyman. She was an inspector for Allen Family Foods for many years, retiring in 1981. Mrs. Baynum was a member of the Harbeson United Methodist Church, and of the CHEER Center in Georgetown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry T. "Pete" Baynum, in 1986; a brother, Earl McIlvaine; and a sister, Aleine Hurdle. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kim Epolito and Victor Epolito Jr. of Milton; a stepgranddaughter, Jill Litten; and a twin sister, Phyllis Hastings of Georgetown. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Harbeson United Methodist Church, Del. 5 and U.S. 9, Harbeson, where friends may call two hours earlier. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. 'Buster' Coverdale of Seaford died of kidney failure, Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in her home. She was 75. Mrs. Coverdale was born Oct. 31, 1927 in Georgetown. She worked at Head Start in Seaford. Mrs. Coverdale was a member of Light House Church of God, East New Market, Md. She is survived by three sons, Gary L. Matthews of Tulsa, Okla., Bruce I. Coverdale Sr. of Chesapeake, Va. and William R. Coverdale Jr. of Seaford; four daughters, Terrance M. Brummell, Beverly D. Coverdale and Dorothy C. Hopkins, all of Seaford and Wanda P. Coverdale of Bridgeville; two sisters, Betty Henry of Bridgeville and Shirley Jenkins of Georgetown; 12 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; a son-in-law, Daniel Hopkins of Seaford; two daughters-in-law, Sandee Matthews of Tulsa, Okla., and Mary Matthews of Seaford; a brother-in-law, Walter Jenkins of Georgetown; two great friends, Rachel Abbott and Otelia Oliver, both of Seaford; a special niece, Cynthia Kilgo of Seaford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Edwards Sr. of Dundalk died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, in Howard County General Hospital, Columbia. He was 49. Mr. Edwards was born Sept. 23, 1953, son of Joseph B. "Buttons" Edwards Sr. of Middletown, Del., and the late Helen Carson Edwards. He had lived in Cecil County before moving to Baltimore 23 years ago. He owned and operated Décor Construction Ltd. He enjoyed baseball and was a diehard Baltimore Ravens fan. Mr. Edwards coached Dundalk Little League and was a third-degree Knight of Columbus. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth R. Edwards of Dundalk; four children, Christina Meekins of Elkton, Charles J. Edwards Jr., Jessica Edwards and Julianna Edwards, all of Dundalk; a brother, Joseph Edwards Jr. of Middletown; a sister, Brenda Edwards of Arkansas; and two grandchildren, Robert J. Foskey of Delmar died Friday, April 18, 2003, in Peninsula Regional Mrdical Center, Salisbury, Md. She was 95. Mrs. Foskey was born in Bethel, daughter of the late Arthur D. and Allie V. Phillips. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Foskey was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Foskey; and her oldest son, Harry Foskey. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Roland A. and Ina Ray Foskey of Bowie, Md. and Ronald L. He was 69. Mr. Foster was born in Lewes, son of the late Howard and Edna "Blizzard" Foster. He had served in the United States Navy. Mr. Foster had served 18 years with the Delaware State Police, retiring in 1977 as a lieutenant. He was an avid golfer. He enjoyed acrylic painting and was an avid sports fan. Mr. Foster was a member of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway where he was an elder. He was also a member of the Rehoboth Beach Lions Club and the Rehoboth Beach American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth E. Jestice Foster; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Lynn and Bill Ellingsworth of Rehoboth Beach; and three grandchildren, Derrick, Taylor and Katelyn Ellingsworth, all of Rehoboth Beach. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Laura Marie Hawkins, 92 FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Laura Marie Hawkins of Federalsburg, formerly of Kent County, died Friday, April 18, 2003, in Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 92. Mrs. Hawkins was born July 13, 1910, in Queenstown, daughter of the late Henry Clay and Anna Lucille Greaves Woolford. She raised her family on their farm on Bakers Lane in Chestertown. She was known for her cooking, especially her hot rolls. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening. Prior to living in Federalsburg for the past year, she spent eight years with her daughter in Millington. Mrs. Hawkins belonged to the Homemakers Association while residing in Chestertown and the Kent County Farm Bureau. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Charles Nelson Hawkins in 1995; and a daughter, Virginia M. Glisson, in 1997. She is survived by two sons, Charles T. Hawkins of Kenton, Del., and William H. Hawkins of Federalsburg; a daughter, Mary E. Downey of Millington; a grandson whom she raised, John N. Hawkins of Chestertown; three sisters, Grace Vickers of Cambridge, Esther Dill of Easton and Blanche Usilton of Greensboro; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where relatives and friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Shirley Dorothea Mumford, 81 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Shirley Dorothea Mumford of Chestertown died Thursday, April 17, 2003, in her home. She was 81. Mrs. Mumford was born August 26, 1921, in Newark, daughter of the late John W. and Grace Slack Mumford. After graduating from Snow Hill High School, class of 1938, she attended Towson State Teachers College and received her bachelor of science degree in education. She later received her master's degree in education from Towson State University. Mrs. Mumford taught elementary school in the Baltimore City School System and Baltimore County School System. She worked as a reading specialist and a dult-literature instructor after her retirement from Baltimore County School System and moved to Chestertown in 1992. She loved gardening. Mrs. Mumford was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was involved with the Young at Heart. She also was a member of the Maryland Ornithological Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, David Ransom Smith, and her second husband, J. Cullen Weadock. She is survived by a son, Stephen R. Smith of Suwanee, Ga.; two daughters, Lynn Smith Short of Lutherville and Janet Smith Shepherd of Iowa City, Iowa; three grandsons, Gary Matthew Smith of Austin, Minn., Bryan Keith Smith of Palm Beach, Fla., and Michael Warren Leatherwood of Towson; and eight great- grandchildren. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. April 26 in First United Methodist Church, High Street, Chestertown. Burial will be private. Tinkler of Oak Orchard, east of Millsboro, died of natural causes Thursday, April 17, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 90. Mr. Tinkler had lived in Baltimore and worked for the C'&;'P Telephone Co. After serving for 40 years, he retired 28 years ago and moved to Oak Orchard. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Christopher Cox, who had lived in Albertshofen, Germany. He is survived by his wife, Elnora; a son, Richard Tinkler of Annapolis, Md.; a daughter, Vera Tinkler of Missoula, Mont.; a stepson and stepdaughter-in- law, Daniel and Peggy Cox of Dover; a stepdaughter, Brenda Jackson of Millsboro; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
