She was 92. Mrs. Arnott was born March 2, 1911, in Tazewell County, Va., daughter of the late Albert S. and Sallie Myers Caldwell. She was a graduate of Talcott High School in Talcott, W.Va., and St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Bluefield, W.Va. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Arnott was a resident of Beckley from 1945-1997; she was an active member of First Baptist Church in Beckley, where she served on the board of deaconesses, American Baptist Women, Fidelis Sunday school class and the Dorcas Society. In 1997 she moved to Dover to live with her daughter. While living in Dover, she attended First Baptist Church, and for the past three years was a resident of Heritage at Dover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harry F. Arnott, on Dec. 9, 1996; three brothers, John O. Caldwell, Carlis W. Caldwell and her twin, J. Edgar Caldwell; and three sisters, Ruhama Richardson, Sarah F. Cox and Ethel Parker. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lois and George Glading of Dover; a grandson and his wife, Mark and Emily Glading of Wilmington; a granddaughter and her husband, Martha and Jay Steinruck of Hummelstown, Pa.; and four great-grandchildren, Julia Glading, Allison Glading, Kurt Steinruck and Lauren Steinruck. Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5252 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, where friends may call one hour earlier. Bothwell, 89 MILLSBORO - Charles S. Bothwell of Millsboro, formerly of Chester, Pa., died, after a short illness, Monday, April 14, 2003, in Crozer Chester Medical Center in Chester. He was 89. Mr. Bothwell was born and raised in Chester, son of the late Charles and Helen O'Connell Bothwell. He was a pipefitter for the DuPont Co. at the Carney's Point site in New Jersey, from where he retired after 20 years of service before moving to Delaware. Mr. Bothwell was a 32nd-degree Mason, a member of Penn Masonic Lodge 709, Free and Accepted Masons of Chester, and of Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Valley of Philadelphia. He had been a Mason since 1940. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Bothwell, in 1994. He is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles D. and Nancy Bothwell and Edwin G. and Christine Bothwell; and five grandchildren, Charles R. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, Pa. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Jeffrey Otis 'Windshield' 'Nakati' 'Chief' DeShields, 49 SEAFORD - Jeffrey Otis "Windshield" "Nakati" "Chief" DeShields of Seaford died of heart failure Thursday, April 10, 2003, in the home of his sister, Lorraine Cooke-Fuentes, Seaford. He was 49. Mr. DeShields had worked for Exxon Mobil on oil rigs in Louisiana and New Jersey since 1984. He specialized in working on the derrick oil rigs. He enjoyed this line of work and was a dedicated and faithful employee until his health prevented him from working. His hobbies were fishing, shooting pool and swimming. Above all he loved his family, especially his children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters. Mr. DeShields attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in Creole, La., but most recently accepted the Lord as his personal savior. He was also a life member of Masonic Lodge 262 of Lake Charles, La. Hazzard III, 76 MILLSBORO - James E. Hazzard III of Millsboro died Monday, April 14, 2003, in his home. He was 76. Mr. Hazzard was born in Lewes, son of the late James E. Jr. and Bessie Downes Hazzard. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Hazzard was a chapter member of Dagsboro Church of God, where he served as an elder of the church and a councilman. He had also served as a worship leader. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James E. Hazzard IV, in 1996. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Myrtle Conaway Hazzard; a son and daughter-in-law, Reginald A. and Sharon Hazzard of Millsboro; two sisters, Betty Hill of Lewes and Beatrice Joseph of Willowick, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Kimberly Pettyjohn, Colin Hazzard, Allen Hazzard and Pamela Long, all of Millsboro. He was 88. Mr. Hickman was born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. He later moved to Springfield, Pa., attended Swarthmore College and graduated from West Chester State Teachers College (now West Chester University). He met Georgette Barber Newlin at the college; they married July 30, 1938. After he retired from the food brokerage industry, he and Mrs. Hickman moved to Lewes. Mr. Hickman was a Mason, belonging to the Springfield-Hanby Masonic Lodge 767, Free and Accepted Masons, and was a noble of the Nur Shriners. He also was a member of Mensa. He was active in Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes, sang in its choir for 15 years and had recently served as the church's music librarian. Also, he supported his wife's interest in the Maull House in Lewes, maintained by the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she was instrumental in having a state historical marker placed. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002. He is survived by his loving family, a son and daughter-in-law, William M. Hickman Jr. and Judith Hickman of Knoxboro, N.Y.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Maelen "Pinkie" and William Byrd of Brevard, N.C., and Jane Hickman of Oakland, Calif.; two brothers, his twin, Walter R. Hickman of Ruskin, Fla., and Thomas W. Hickman Jr. of Millville; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Saturday in Bethel Methodist Church, 129 W. Hill of Fenwick Island died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. He was 60. Mr. Hill retired from the DuPont Co. in Seaford in 1993 as a supervisor after 32 years of service. Since his retirement from DuPont he has been the service manager for Bob's Marine in Ocean View. He loved fishing and boating. Mr. Hill was a Seaford city councilman from 1984 to 1990 and a past member of the Seaford Kiwanis Club. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Hill; his mother, Beverly Hill of Seaford; four children, Trina Hastings and Richie Smith of Seaford, Kim Robertson of Wilmington and Roxanne Lee of Cadillac, Mich.; a sister, Donna Conaway of Seaford; and 13 grandchildren. He was 54. Mr. Kleczynski was born Nov. 10, 1948 in Baltimore. He moved to Ponte Vedra Beach in August 2001 from LaGrange, Ga. He had served in the U.S. Army. He was a territory manager for Pennington Seeds. Mr. Kleczynski was a member of Chesterfield Yacht and Country Club, the Knights of Columbus and Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine. He is survived by his fiancee, June L. Cooper of Ponte Vedra Beach; a daughter, Ashley Dianne Kleczynski of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a brother, Martin Thomas Kleczynski of Denton, Md. Mindrup of Lewes died Wednesday, April 16, 2003. He was 80. Mr. Mindrup was born in Terre Haute, Ind., son of the late Frank L. Mindrup and Mary Kelly Mindrup. He graduated from Purdue University in 1951 with a degree in civil engineering and was a licensed Delaware professional engineer. Mr. Mindrup was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired in 1985 after 33 years with the DuPont Co. He loved to sing and enjoyed hiking. Mr. Mindrup was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Lewes, where he had sung in the church choir. He had participated with all the church choirs in the various areas that he had resided, as well as singing with the Chattanooga Symphony Chorus and the Nanticoke Chorus (Barbershoppers) in Seaford. He had also served as a scoutmaster for many years. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Norma J. Mindrup; five children and their spouses, Lynn Thomas of Gilbertsville, N.Y., Mark and Irina Mindrup of San Francisco, Paul and Georgia Mindrup of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Sheryl and Duncan Schmidt of Mill Valley, Calif., and Alan Mindrup and Patti of Newark; and seven grandchildren, John, Jesse, Jennifer, Joseph, Zachary, Virgil and Justin. "Betty" (Meekins) Teed of Harrington died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in her home. She was 64. Mrs. Teed was born in Chestertown, Md., daughter of the late Charles and Rachel Meekins. She was a homemaker and remained active raising her family and participating in her community. Her hobbies included cooking, canning, sewing, listening to country music and dancing. She loved writing poetry, creating greeting cards and keeping in contact with all her friends and family through e-mail. She took pride in her home. She also enjoyed collecting hummingbird ornaments and watching the real ones come to her feeders. Mrs. Teed was a member of Mid-Del Archery Range, serving as its secretary and treasurer for 17 years, and received the first lifetime membership award. She was the leader of the Honeybee's 4-H Club when her daughters were young and was currently a member of the Women of the Moose, Harrington chapter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Joiner. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Thomas R. Teed; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ginny and Donald Jenkins and Beth and Bruce Cordova, all of Harrington; four grandchildren, Randy Lyons, and his wife, Lisa, of Kings Bay, Ga., and Tommy Lyons, Christina Cordova and Rachelle Cordova, all of Harrington; a great-granddaughter, Dixie C.
