Mrs. Beulah died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, in her home. She was born Sept. 1, 1940, daughter of the late Charlie and Edna Smith. Mrs. Beulah attended Moton High School, Easton, Md. Upon completion of high school, she married Lester Beulah of Pinetown, Md. They had three daughters and a son. After her children grew up, Mrs. Beulah furthered her education while working at PNC Bank for several years. She also worked at Mellon Bank while attending Delaware Technical '&;' Community College and Wilmington College, earning her bachelor’s degree. After graduation, she began substitute teaching for the Capital School District. She had many interests including baking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Beulah had a zest for life. She helped others by volunteering at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, on the Junior Board and serving as president of the Protestant Women Of the Chapel (PWOC) at the Dover Air Force Base’s Base Chapel and as a choir member. She is survived by a son, Vincent Beulah of Dover; three daughters, Linda Ponson of Waldorf, Md., and Lisa Beulah and Kelly Beulah, both of Dover; four grandchildren, Nicketa Holmes, Jalisa Agard, Nashwan Weeks and Alexandria Ponson; two brothers, William Smith of Queen Anne’s, Md., and Thomas Smith of Dover; a sister, Gloria Beulah of Denton, Md.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Biddle Services for Elizabeth S. Biddle, 85, of Felton, were held Tuesday, Nov. 26, in Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington. The Rev. Clarence Voshell officiated. Mrs. Biddle died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was born in Sandtown, daughter of the late Eli and Effie Dill. Mrs. Biddle retired in 1982 after 30 years of service from the company formerly known as International Latex Corp. She also worked on the family farm with her husband. She was a very hardworking woman and she always had a big garden. She canned just about all that grew. She loved to cook. Mrs. Biddle would begin to cook three days before thrashing time so she could feed all the thrashers that came to help. She enjoyed flowers, and had them growing everywhere. In her spare time, she was an avid collector of porcelain dolls. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother whose greatest pleasure was spoiling her grandchildren. Mrs. Biddle attended Hughes Chapel Church until it closed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harry Biddle Sr.; and two stepchildren, Earl Biddle and Jean Magilona. She is survived by three sons, Harry W. Biddle Jr., Robert L. Biddle and Leonard Bruce Biddle, all of Felton; four daughters, Irene S. Hickman of Dover, Barbara E. Caulk of Frederica, Viola Nicholas of Dover and Mary Conalo of Laurel; a sister, Eva Knox of Denton, Md.; a stepbrother, Herbert Hurd of Wyoming; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Hickman, 70, of Dover, formerly of Lincoln, were held Friday, Nov. 22, in Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford. Mr. Hickman died of complications of lung cancer Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was born in Camden, son of the late Herman T. and Laura Bell Smith Hickman. Mr. Hickman was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a truck driver for 26 years. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and camping. He enjoyed dining out and visiting folks as well as having conversations with them in their homes. Mr. Hickman was a member of the Pilgrim Wesleyan Church of Milford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Dawson. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jeanette M. Dawson Hickman; a son, Paul J. Hickman of Waynesberg, Pa.; two daughters, Brenda Lee Lints of Dover and Susan M. Hickman of Henderson, Md.; a sister, Rachel Fluharty of Greensboro, Md.; three brothers, John Hickman of Harrington, Earl Hickman of Wyoming and Herman T. Hickman Jr. of Milford. Mr. Hickman is also survived by seven grandchildren, Barry, Steve, Patricia, and Christina Hickman, Brandon and Ciera Lints and Erica Ford; a great- granddaughter, Brianna Hickman; and a host of nieces and nephews. Hunt, of Dover, formerly of Alexandria, Va., was celebrated Friday, Nov. 22, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Alexandria, Va. Mrs. Hunt died after an extended illness Monday, Nov. 18, 2002. She was employed by the Department of Agriculture until her marriage in 1941, after which she became a full-time homemaker. Mrs. Hunt was active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. She was a talented seamstress and an avid golfer. Mrs. Hunt was a member of the Villamay Women’s Club and the Inner Wheel of the Alexandria Rotary Club. She also participated in the Meals on Wheels program. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donley F. Hunt, in 2000. Mrs. Hunt is survived by two daughters, Diane Stalder of Silver Spring, Md., and Susan Morris of Hartly; and. a sister, Josephine Ralbovsky of Johnstown, N.Y. Arrangements were by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Robert Franklin Johnson Services for Robert Franklin Johnson, 86, of Wyoming, were held Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Bibleway Temple Church of God in Christ, Dover. Mr. Johnson died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, in the Green Valley Pavilion Nursing Home, Smyrna. He was born Dec. 8, 1915, son of the late Charles and Mary Johnson. He was married to the late Marie Corrine Gibbs Johnson. From their union, eight children were born. Mr. Johnson was employed at Gilof’s Poultry Farm for 16 years. Later, he moved to Willow Grove, where he was employed by Webb’s Farm until his retirement. He was considered a hard worker and a great provider for his family. He enjoyed baseball, hunting, horseshoes and gardening. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, William E. Johnson; a grandson, William Little Jr.; a great-grandson, Ronald Johnson III; and three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by seven children and their spouses, Lee and Francina Johnson and Robert and Shirley Johnson, all of Wilmington, Mary and Vernon Watson of Wyoming, Estella and Melvin Watson and Ronald and Frances Johnson, all of Felton, Sarah Johnson of Dover, and Sylvia Fuller of Frederica. Mr. Johnson is also survived by two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law, 25 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two special children that he loved as his own, Minister Brenda McCovi of Dover and Larry “Dobie” Stevens of Swell, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Nov. 22, in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover. Mr. Masten died after a long illness Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, in the Emily Bissell Hospital, Wilmington. He was born Jan. 28, 1925, to the late William and Eva Masten. Mr. Masten was a former employee of the city of Wilmington Parks and the Recreation Department, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Pride of Dover Elks Lodge No.1125. He is survived by his sons, Wayne Brewington, Markevis Freeman, Pierre Masten, James Masten Jr. and Antonio Masten; and numerous other relatives and friends. Pritchett, 55, of Dover, were private. Mr. Pritchett died as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was born Feb. 10, 1947, in Dover, son of Warren G.H. Pritchett Sr. and Louise Seeney Pritchett of Dover. Mr. Pritchett worked in the maintenance department for Reichhold Chemical for almost 30 years. He enjoyed going to horse shows and drag races, building cars, attending western movies and spending time with his family and friends. He loved all kinds of animals; he raised chickens, pit bulls and emus. Mr. Pritchett attended Immanuel Union United Methodist Church in Cheswold and was a member of the Quarter Horse Association of Delaware. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley Pritchett of Dover; a son and daughter-in-law, Warren G.H. Reese, 71, of Willmar, Minn., formerly of Smyrna, were held Friday. Nov. 22, in Calvary Lutheran Church Chapel in Willmar. The Rev. Gary Mikkelson officiated. Mr. Reese died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, in Rice Memorial Hospital. He was born July 2, 1931, in Arctander Township, Kandiyohi County, Minn., son of the late Horace E. and Alma Larson Reese. Mr. Reese attended District 25 and Willmar High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. On Nov. 11, 1955, he married Avis Truax in Smyrna. Following their marriage, Mr. Reese worked as a civil service employee at Dover Air Force Base until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Reese was a loving husband and father who was always there for his family. He enjoyed leatherwork and woodworking, making lamps, wall sconces and display shelving. He was very mechanically minded and was a good problem solver. One of his pastimes was doing crossword puzzles. The family always celebrated the holidays together, and over the years they traveled to Minnesota to be with their extended family. Mr. Reese was a member of the American Legion in Delaware and later in Willmar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Merton; and his sisters, Eunice Bengston and Joyce Himanga. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Harlyn E. “Butch” Reese Jr. and his wife, Debra, and Bonnie L. Reese, all of Dover; sisters, Harriet Pagel of Burnsville, Minn., and Alice Jean Asche of Spicer, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. Rice Sr., 88, of Augusta, Ga., were held Friday, Nov. 22, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Augusta, Ga. The Rev. Dr. Richard E. Sanders, the Rev. David Thompson and the Rt. Rev. William Beckam, retired Bishop of Upper S.C., officiated. The Rev. Rice died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, in his home. He was born 1913, in Fountain Inn, S.C. After receiving a bachelor of music degree from Newberry College, Newberry, S.C., in 1934, he taught for seven years in South Carolina schools. In 1942, the Rev. Rice was inducted into the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1946, after serving in the European Theater as an assistant to the Chief Chaplain of the 2nd Armored Division. The Rev. Rice earned a bachelor of arts degree from Wofford College, Spartanburg, S.C., in 1947. Desiring further religious training, he entered Union Theological Seminary and received a master of arts in Christian education in 1948. For several years he served as a Methodist minister, including two years as Christian education director in Tallahassee, Fla. Desiring to be ordained into the Episcopal Church, he acquired a bachelor of divinity degree from Divinity School of Kenyon College, Ohio, in 1959. He served as an Episcopal priest in Harrington and Dover until coming to St. Bartholomew’s North Augusta, in 1971. Retiring from his position in 1978, he enjoyed substituting at All Saint’s Episcopal Church, Beech Island, S.C., as well as at other Augusta-area churches. He was a retired Episcopal priest of the Diocese of Upper S.C. and since 1978, enjoyed privileges in the Diocese of Georgia. In 1981, he became director of the Downtown Cooperative Church Ministries and served until his retirement from this position in August 1993. During his Delaware ministry he served on the Community Council of Kent County, as state chaplain for the American Legion and as chaplain for the Dover Chapter of the International Order of St. Luke the Physician. After moving to Georgia, he was, for a few years, chaplain of the St. Paul’s Chapter of OSL and a member of the American Legion Post No. 0071, North Augusta. In 1986, Seratoma International made him the recipient of the Service to Mankind Award. In 1991, he was presented with an Inspiration Award by the Senior Citizen’s Council of Greater Augusta and the CSRA for his devotion and caring towards others. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Stringer Hardy Rice; son, Quay D. Rice Jr.; a daughter, Idelette Rice McNatt; two stepsons, George Moore Hardy Jr. and Charles David Hardy; and three grandsons, Christopher Brian Rice, Quay Alexander “Alex” Rice and Joey Meditz. The Rev. Rice is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Rice of Florence, S.C.; two nieces, Louise Campbell of Anderson, S.C., and Carolyn White of Abbeville, S.C.; a granddaughter, Lora Burson; a step-granddaughter, Marclee Moore Hardy; and several great-grandchildren. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Albert N. Ridgeway Sr. Services for Albert N. Ridgeway Sr., 58, of Augusta, Ga., formerly of Dover, were held Tuesday, Nov. 26, in Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover. Mr. Ridgeway died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, in University Health Care System, Augusta. He was born Oct. 13, 1944, in Dover, son of the late Raymond Ridgeway Sr. and Georgianna Mosley. Mr. Ridgeway lived in the Dover area from birth until 1982, when he moved around before finally settling in Augusta. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Ridgeway retired in 1993 as a laborer in the construction industry. He is survived by a special friend, Mary Calloway of Augusta; a son, Albert N. Ridgeway Jr. of Dover; two daughters, Sherry Wilson and Brandy Ridgeway, both of Dover; two brothers, Raymond “Jimmy Flicker” Ridgeway Sr. of Trenton, N.J., and Greensbury “Greenie” Ridgeway of Dover; three sisters, Sadie Mae Carney, Sarah “Ginger” Durham and Beatrice “Beatie” Seeney, all of Dover; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements were by Faries Funeral Home, Smyrna. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Rose Virginia Sparks Services for Rose Virginia Sparks, 85, of Chestertown, Md., were held Sunday, Nov. 24, in Fellows, Helfenbein '&;' Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown. Mrs. Sparks died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, in Harbour Home Assisted Living Center, Chestertown. She was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Kent County, the eldest of four children of the late J. Edgar Sr. and Hester Jane Strong. Mrs. Sparks attended the Union Memorial School of Nursing in Baltimore, graduating with the class of 1937. During her professional career, she practiced public health nursing in Maryland’s Queen Anne and Kent counties and worked in the maternity ward at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital, Chestertown, where she was able to assist in delivering six of her seven grandchildren. Upon her retirement from nursing, she was a hostess at her brother Joe’s restaurant, The Old Wharf Inn, and later helped to care for infants at her daughter’s daycare, Miss Ann’s Day Care. Mrs. Sparks was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She also attended Wesley Chapel Church, Rock Hall United Methodist Church in Fairlee and St. James United Methodist Church in Worton. She loved to dance throughout her life. In her youth, she enjoyed horseback riding on East Neck Island, attending local baseball games and sailing with her brothers. In her later years, she enjoyed the fellowship of the Busy Bee’s Senior Group. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband whom she married in 1938, Frank O. Sutton Sr., who died in 1949; and a brother, James Edgar Strong Jr. She is survived by three children, Ann V. Price of Chestertown, the Rev. Frank O. Sutton Jr. of Wyoming and Margaret A. Frybarger of Rock Hall; twin brothers, Joseph W. Strong Sr. and Robert H. Strong Sr.; and seven grandchildren, John F. Price IV, James T. Price, Joseph A. Price, Rosann L. Elgin, Sandra L. She was born March 5, 1905, in Dover, daughter of the late Leonard and Laura Wilson Rash. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin I. Storey, in 1959; and a son, Martin L. “Bud” Storey, in 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Denney of Magnolia; a granddaughter, Lisa A. Virdin; a grandson, James E. Arrangements were by Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Col. Samuel Mack Wilson, Ph.D. (U.S.M.C., Ret.) Services for Col. Samuel Mack Wilson, 81, of Rydal, Pa., were held Monday, Nov. 25, at Abington Presbyterian Church, Abington, Pa. Col. Wilson died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at Abington Memorial Hospital. He was born in Newport, Tenn., son of the late Eliza Virgle Belle Murr and Ronald Earl Wilson. Col. Wilson graduated with an economics degree from Maryville College, Maryville, Tenn., where he played on the football and baseball teams, and was captain of the wrestling team. Col. Wilson received his master of business administration degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and his doctorate of philosophy degree from the Arts and Science School, University of Pennsylvania, with a concentration on organization and management. His dissertation topic was “The Development and Use of Work Measurement in the Department of Defense,” which later was published and reproduced for wide dissemination throughout the Department of the Army. Col. Wilson was a Marine veteran of World War II and was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict when he worked for the commandant at headquarters. He developed and installed the Work Measurement Programs for the Marine Corps in eight different Marine Corps bases. He then worked on various Professional Management programs and was management consultant for Management Engineering with the Air Force for many years. He retired in 1981 as a colonel. In Philadelphia, he served as chairman of The Officers’ Procurement Planning Board of the Marine Corps of the Delaware Valley. Col. Wilson taught at Temple University, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1992. He served as Professor of General and Strategic Management in the Department of General and Strategic Management in the School of Business and Management. He served as chairman of the department and associate dean of the School of Business Administration. He was listed in Who’s Who in America and World’s Who’s Who in Science. In 1980, Col. Wilson was the recipient of the Stauffer Award, Temple University’s Outstanding Professor Award. He was twice president of the American Association of University Professors in 1975 and 1980. He was president of the Faculty 25 Year Club and was chairman of numerous committees. He served on the Academic Advising Board, chairman of the Academic Discipline and Judicial Committees, the Educational Programs and Policies Committee and the Personnel Committee of the Faculty Senate. He was a member of the Summer Commission in Student Governance and implemented the Student Government Organization for the School of Business. He was Director of Student Affairs in the School of Business Administration and Director of Student Orientation Program. Col. Wilson’s research studies and writing cover many areas of management including management engineering, automation, manpower planning, performance standards, and budgeting and management development. A member of Abington Presbyterian Church for 48 years, Col. Wilson had served as elder, deacon, trustee, treasurer, assistant treasurer, church-school teacher, and on the sanctuary building committee and church organ selection committee. Col. Wilson was a member of many professional organizations including the Society for the Advancement of Management (S.A.M.). In 1994, he received the society’s most distinguished award, the “Taylor Key,” based upon his pioneering work in management and the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force and as a consultant to American corporations; research and publications in management; and his distinguished career as a management professor at Temple University. He was a member of the Employee Accounts Review Board, Bureau of Employment Security in Harrisburg, Production Managers Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia, and the Older Worker Committee, Health and Welfare. Col. Wilson was president of the Philadelphia Chapter S.A.M. and vice president of the International Chapter of the Society. He served on the National Editorial Board of the Advanced Management Journal. He was the faculty advisor to the student chapters of S.A.M. in the School of Business at Temple University. He served on the Board of Philadelphia Presbytery Homes and Services and was a member of the Foundation, was past president of the Maryville College Delaware Valley Alumni Association, and was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, an honorary business society. He also was a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee of Montgomery County. Col. Wilson had many hobbies including college sports, skiing with his family at Snowmass, Col., boating and fishing, and traveling here and abroad. His greatest interest was gardening; he raised vegetables as well as boxwood, azaleas, rhododendron and large dahlias, which were landscaped at his home. His gardens were featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois Elisabeth Graf Wilson; a son, Samuel Mayhew Wilson, M.D., and his wife, Dorothy Hay Barrus Wilson of Dover; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Hay and Mary Jaudon Wilson; a sister, Lucile Wilson Cureton of Newport, Tenn.; and a brother, Col. Mr. Woodlin worked on the Thomas farm until retirement. Afterward, he worked as a horse trainer for 10 years for Mike Kemp and Warren Groff. His hobbies included attending to the horses and cows. He was affectionately known as “Pop,” “Grandpop,” “Uncle Bill,” and “Mr. Bill,” and was a caring, loving and kind-hearted person who always had a few words of wisdom or a joke for everyone. Mr. Woodlin was a member of Victory Church in Dover and attended regularly until his health began to fail. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Leon Stevenson; five sisters, Sarah Mosely, Roxie Minus, Mary Woodlin, Virgie Woodlin and Hester Woodlin; and six brothers, John Woodlin, Samuel Woodlin, Jaster Woodlin, Perry Woodlin, Charles Woodlin and Roy Albert. Memorial services for Dr. Arthur Eugene Bragg, 76, of Dover, will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 7, in Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 341 Saulsbury Road, Dover. Dr. Bragg died of natural causes Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, in Capitol Nursing Home, Dover. He was a native of Gurdon, Ark., and attended Philander Smith College from 1941 to 1944. After a two-year tour of duty in the U.S. Army during World War II, he continued his education at Howard University and earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics, magna cum laude, in 1948. Dr. Bragg received a master of science degree in mathematics from the University of Chicago in 1949, and pursued his doctoral degree in mathematics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His military service spanned more than 34 years of active and reserve duty in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Army in December 1988 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Dr. Bragg was the chair of the mathematics department at Delaware State College, now Delaware State University, and served in that position from 1962 until his retirement in 1989. Recognizing the importance of training students in computer technology, he established the first computer center at the university in 1965 and supervised the operation for three years along with other administrative and teaching duties. He introduced the use of an IBM 1130 computer to the faculty and students, and developed a four-year-degree program in computer science. He also wrote the initial program used by the Office of Admissions and Records for grade reports, computation of grade-point averages and related analyses. Dr. Bragg’s scholastic ability and achievements were evidenced by his membership and active participation in some of the leading academic societies in America, which include Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Pi Mu Epsilon Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, Beta Kappa Chi Honor Society, Sigma Xi Honor Society, the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, the National Association of Mathematicians and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. On May 20, 1990, President William DeLauder and the board of directors of Delaware State College conferred upon him an honorary doctorate degree in science. He also was a life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and a devoted member of the Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Dover. He is survived by two sisters, Beatrice Bragg Stafford and Serena Bragg White; two brothers, James and Archie Bragg; two sisters-in-law, Marie and Louise Bragg; two brothers-in-law, Ellis Stafford and John White; 25 nieces and nephews; and a host of former students, colleagues and friends. Fischer, 81, of Milford, Lewes and Stuart, Fla., will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in Christ Episcopal Church, 200 N. Church St., Milford. Friends may call Wednesday evening, Dec. 4, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford. Mr. Fischer died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Lewes. He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Ernest O. and Beatrice H. McCormick Fischer. Mr. Fischer enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1941 and served with the 16th Coast Artillery at Ft. Miles, Lewes, where he captained an Army yawl tending minefields protecting the Delaware Bay. He was discharged in December 1945. During his enlistment time he met Martha Ellen Haines of Laurel, whom he married Feb. 5, 1944. After being discharged from the Army, Mr. Fischer worked as a shovel hand for the Valliant Fertilizer Company in Laurel. He moved to Milford in 1947 to work for the Milford Fertilizer Company and was president of that company from 1950 to 1980. He acquired both the Milford Fertilizer Company and the Valliant Fertilizer Company in 1975 and acted as C.E.O. and Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1978 until he retired in 1988. He was a past President of the Delmarva Peninsula Fertilizer Association, served on the Board of Directors of the Fertilizer Institute in Washington, D.C., and was recognized as a key innovator in the industry. He traveled the world as a fertilizer expert and represented the state of Delaware as a trade representative to China in 1978. Mr. Fischer founded Fischer Enterprises, Inc. in 1969 and was a principal in that company until 1995. He was the founder and a partner in the Fischer Development Corporation, Fischer Investments Inc., and a partner in Cape Shores Associates from 1988 until 2002. He was also honored by the University of Delaware in 1990 with the establishment and naming of the Fischer Greenhouse Laboratory Agricultural Research Facility in Newark. He was a past chair and member of the Board of Directors of Milford Memorial Hospital, where he served from 1950 until 1992. During his tenure he spearheaded two major building campaigns and was honored to have a wing named for him in 1985. He was a member of the founding committee and first president of the Shawnee Country Club of Milford. Mr. Fischer was the chairman for many major projects for the Carlisle Fire Company and the Kiwanis Youth Center, both in Milford. He was a past member of the Milford Lions Club. He was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and Lewes Yacht Club. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Milford, since 1947 and served on the vestry, was a Junior Warden and was building chairman of the Parish House. He was an experienced airplane pilot and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He enjoyed fishing in the Delaware Bay and was an avid off shore fisherman. He enjoyed rowing shells on Haven Lake in Milford with his friends, playing golf, attending University of Delaware football games, dancing, reading, going to the movies and especially enjoyed the company of his friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ellen Fischer in 1974. He is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert A. Fischer Jr. and Linda M. Fischer and Richard S. and Kimberly S. Fischer, all of Lewes; two daughters, Donna E. Fischer-Scrivo of Lewes, and Debra A. Fischer of Rehoboth. He is also survived by a brother, Ernest O. He was born Feb. 9, 1941, in Salisbury, Md., son of the late Robert C. and Dorothy Parker Langrell. Mr. Langrell was a graduate of Lewes High School. He received his associate’s degree in elementary education from Wesley College in Dover, his bachelor’s degree in education from Delaware State College, now Delaware State University and his master’s degree in education from Salisbury State College, now Salisbury University, Salisbury, Md. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Langrell lived in Smyrna from 1966 until he moved to Dover in 1969. He had served as an elementary education teacher with the Capital School District and had retired in 1994. He also served as assistant coach of the Wesley College football team for 20 years and was inducted into the Wesley College Hall of Fame in October. He was a loving husband and father and will be remembered for his love of sports, chess and gardening. After his military retirement, he moved to Cocoa Beach and started a second career with the Department of Defense, traveling to the Philippines, Barksdale AFB, La., and Homestead AFB, Fla., retiring in 1994. Mr. McCalister was a life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Moose Lodge. She worked as a billing clerk for 25 years for Playtex in Dover, retiring in 1986. Ms. Minner was a cat breeder for 20 years and showed some of her best animals up and down the East Coast. She moved to Pinellas Park, Fla., after her retirement. She acquired a passion for growing flowers while there and became an active member of the Orchid Society. In July 2002, she moved to Maryland to be closer to her family and remained there until her death. Ms. Minner also was a member of American Association of Retired Persons. She is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Minner of Crofton, Md., and Peggy Smith of Newark; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert F. Carpenter Jr. and Alice Carpenter of Mitchellville, Md.; three grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. Burial will be in Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. Preskenis Sr., 73, of Northport, Maine, was celebrated Monday, Dec. 2, at the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Belfast, Maine. Mr. Preskenis died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002. He was born Jan. 15, 1929, in Needham, Mass., son of the late William and Margaret Keegan Preskenis. Mr. Preskenis lived in West Roxbury, Mass., Dover and Northport. He graduated from Boston College in 1950 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Preskenis worked for Walter Baker Chocolate/General Foods for 31 years, retiring as national/international sales manager. He enjoyed reading, traveling, boating and playing golf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Preskenis. He is survived by his wife Eileen Sennott Preskenis; six children, Robert J. Preskenis Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., Eileen M. Maguire of Camden, Maine, John M. Preskenis of Wilmington, Richard J. Preskenis of Lumberton, N.J., James F. She was born Feb. 7, 1941, in Washington, D.C., daughter of the late Jack and Sug Adlam. She grew up and spent many years in Delaware and had lived in Jacksonville since 1977. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, James Reilly; a son, Robert Reilly; a daughter, Dionna Reilly; three grandchildren; Brandon, Evan and Gage; and two brothers, Peter of Camden and John Adlam of Frederica. Mr. Sisco died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Hahnemann University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was born April 17, 1936, in Alton, Mo. son of the late Vivian H. and Helen A. Sisco. Following his retirement from the United States Air Force in 1977, he drove for Boncosky Trucking for 24 years. Mr. Sisco was a member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post No. 2. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth. He is survived by four sons, Vivian H. “Rocky” Sisco III of Wichita, Kan., Jeffrey Sisco of Wichita, John J. Interment was in Bailey Cemetery, Alton, Mo. --------------------------------------------------------------- * Helen Margaret Stone Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Margaret Stone, 87, of Dover, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Holy Cross Church, South State Street, Dover. Mrs. Stone died of Alzheimer’s disease Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Dover, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Marian and John Stant of Dover, with whom she lived. She was born and raised in Chicago, daughter of the late Matthew and Anna Pokorny Skaro. Mrs. Stone had lived in Chicago until moving to Dover in 1964. She was a dedicated wife and mother of eight children. Possessing a strong faith, she dedicated her life to God and her family. She lived by her convictions, and her kindness to everyone was abundant. Mrs. Stone was actively involved in Catholic activities in conjunction with Holy Cross Church, giving both personal and financial support. She attended daily Mass, was a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, the Third Order of St. Francis, Church Women United and the Perpetual Altar Society, and was a lay minister. She was a champion of the helpless, the oppressed and poor, and eagerly donated her time and financial support to the pro-life movement. She peaceably protested at abortion clinics in all weather, even in her later years. In 1963, she marched in Washington, D.C., with Martin Luther King Jr., and witnessed his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. Active in local volunteer activities, she was a part of a literacy program that tutored children and adults in reading and writing. She was instrumental in the establishment, and served on the board, of the Capitol Green Day Care Center. Mrs. Stone had worked to improve the lives and living conditions of migrant workers and was a volunteer for Catholic Social Services and the Kent County Hygiene Clinic day program. She was a past member of the League of Women Voters and had been involved with the planning stages of St. Thomas More Academy, where she provided significant financial support. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Deacon Raymond A. Stone, in 1993; and a brother, Joseph Skaro. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by seven other children, Ray and Robert Stone, both of Dover, John Stone of Lake Bluff, Ill., Mary Placzek of Chicago, Margaret Johnson of Tucson, Maureen Hannah of Albany, N.Y., and Marita Marshall of Charleston, S.C.; 27 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
